"Why is it important to gradually step up your sanding grits when finishing/refinishing wood?"
"Why am I getting swirl marks?"
"How do I manage dust in the workroom?"
Digging into the comment section of some of my past videos to answer your questions about SANDING! Plus, showing you some new tools and products I've just received, a cute rescue bunny update, and how you can contribute to an upcoming video!
It's been a whirlwind of a year! FULL DISCLOSURE- there's no furniture flip in this video but I'm saying goodbye to 2021 with this last video of the year, and looking forward with bright eyes to the new year and LOTS of awesome furniture projects!
Wishing you all the best!

Thank you for always keeping it REAL! your clear explanations of refinishing steps and processes and calm & quiet delivery is so appreciated! I enjoy listening to your videos and have learned a LOT here. I look forward to more videos in 2022, I'm not at all surprised that your channel has grown so quickly, the quality of your work is top notch. Oh and no way do you look old enough to have been a Pen pal! I guess I'm gushing here....but from someone of an "older" generation, I love that you work so hard to preserve and restore pieces, and that your videos are straightforward and calming to watch. ~

I am not at all surprised to see that your channel has grown so fast. I knew your channel would be a big hit after watching the first few episodes. You not only show us exactly what steps you take to finish a piece but you explain why you are doing what. All of your videos are very well put together and very informative. The buns are the bonus!! So glad all your fosters now have wonderful caring homes. I know from back in my bunny fostering days that it can take a wile to find a good bunny adopter. Have a wonderful holiday and thanks again for all your help!

You give good information about sandpaper. My painting business specializes in log home restoration so I go through thousands of sanding discs in a year. To keep employees from bearing down too hard on the sanders I explain to them that 80 grit sandpaper will never cut more than 1/80 of an inch no matter how hard you lean on the sander. I also require then to use their own sanders because too many of mine have been destroyed by bearing down too hard. When it comes to swapping out sanding discs I tell them that sandpaper is less expensive then labor.

Thanks for the shout out and explanation Ang! It made TOTAL sense. Now, I just need to make sure I can actually see or feel when I’ve smoothed all the way to the bottom layers in between sanding grits. That’ll be a bit tricky for me. You are AMAZING and my absolute favorite channel to watch. We ALL love you! The bunnies are just a really cute bonus. ♥️♥️
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
@TranscendFurnitureGallery 2 года назад
There’s a bit of a trick you can use! If you take a regular pencil and add very light (don’t press down into the wood, just run the pencil lightly over it) squiggle marks over the surface, you’ll know that layer is flat and good to go when the pencil is all gone. This is best used on solid wood though, as opposed to veneer. It helps clear up peaks and valleys too that may not be that visible to the naked eye or by feeling with your hand.

Hi Angie! First off, I LOVE seeing the bunnies and can’t wait to see your other bun buns. I have rescued bunnies as well and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the bunnies for the first time! Love the idea of flipping furniture to raise funds for local non profits, I’m going to try and do that for my local bunny rescues here in Calgary, AB ❤️ I would love to hear about your tattoos! They are amazing 🤩 Something I’d love to see you talk about is how you know what kind of wood a piece is. I’ve looked at websites explaining it but I find it so difficult, please help!! Not sure if this is something you want to share but it would be nice to see a breakdown of you costs such as the initial purchase price of the piece and about how much was spent in supplies. Asking/selling price would also be nice. Thanks for the wonderful content, you’ve got skills and I love that you share your knowledge. Much appreciated 💕

For the future Q&A: How can you tell the type of wood? I'm gifted 3 chairs, a 2,5m buffet and bar cart all MCM style which come from the 1960's, I'm located in Germany. They're now sitting in my in-laws basement and they wanted to trash them, so I asked if I could have them to restore and bring back to live and use in my own home. I am wondering how I can figure out what kind of wood the pieces are made of to find out a good color stain and wood filler etc. Starting my project in Spring and can't wait!

Angie one of the best tips in this video you mentioned is at the 7:00 minute mark. Getting all the debris off the surface between sanding grades is important but I never really associated the sand papper itself being the culprit. I always just thought I was kind of wiping away the wood dust but you are right. It would be full of those hard granules. I would love to hear your thoughts on those SurfPrep sanders I see people using with furniture.. I would like to buy a nice sander and shop vac combo just not sure what all is nessecary. Obviously you are killing it with what you have but if you were out shoping.............lol I have seen other nice sanders and would love to hear your thoughts.

The bunnies and kitties are a welcome interlude but, you're the star! Shenanigans- technical term? 🤣 What you do and why is welcome information, in my humble opinion! I e done a few pieces so far and have had to correct those swirl marks on every stinkin piece. What you doing with your video is what I do everyday. I work for a Benjamin Moore Dealer and have to problem solve and color consult everyday on top of color matching. We used to do stain matching but, it takes a toll on your eyes doing 5-6 a day so, we stopped it about 6 months ago. We use Old Masters stains, which I love. Costume change? Lol😅 you crack me up and I, for one, really enjoy your informative and fun videos! Thank you for doing what you do and, for sharing with the world!

@TranscendFurnitureGallery I look forward to your videos, and I'm learning from your example! I won't criticize, only compliment! Life is too judgemental, and when I find authenticity and beauty in any art form, I feel it's necessary to point out that beauty! Life's too short not to look for the beauty in it. Your artistic eye is gorgeous, and I love how you try, even if you don't know what you're exactly doing, but you learn as you go! That's completely awesome, in my opinion! Hi! I have a couple of questions for your upcoming video: 1. Why Fusion Mineral Paint? 2. During your video on finishes, you mentioned your desire to get away from some of the more toxic products. Would you be interested in making your own non-toxic degreaser and cleaners? I can send you a few recipes, it’s cheaper than store bought and in many cases you adjust the recipe to fit your needs. 3. I feel like I am seeing more and more color stains both available for sale and more furniture with colored stains. Now that I have seen you using white washes lately, do you think you will try this with some additional colors? Black, navy blue?

First off.... you were working on Christmas Eve...what the heck? Second, one of my COVID soothing techniques to sleep is to watch videos of stuff that I like to do with people who have calming voices, Add that to refinishing wood and you are only the second channel I have ever subscribed to. Third, can you post a video of pieces that you have completed? I never imagined you could refinish veneer. I have done solid woods but I didn't think veneer was possible and now I want to redo my bedroom furniture. I carefully watch your videos to see if you do tops or sides or drawer fronts with stain vs paint. A video that is a compilation of multiple projects would be really cool. And you are really cool! Keep up the good work. Judy from Claysville.

Angie, I’m sorry if you’ve covered this question before, but I know we all talk about various sandpaper grits and I have a good grasp of that. What I do wonder about is what speed I should be running my sander at? I have a Bosch random orbital sander/polisher with 6 speeds. The highest speeds are for polishing, the owners manual refers to anything from 2-6 for sanding paint woodwork and 4-6 for sanding varnished or raw woodwork. Do you have the option to change speeds on you orbital? Do you do it? Is there a valid reason that we definitely should be increasing or decreasing our actual sanding speed? Just one more thing they didn’t teach us in Home Ec! 🤓
