Same. Mine happened in 2020. C5-C6. Neck, left shoulder and scapula, and left arm were on fire. Worst, longest lasting pain I've ever had by far. My surgery was a success too! I just have a little numbness on my left middle finger/index finger/thumb and loss of some strength in my left arm along with loss of some fine motor movement with my left hand. It's a good thing I'm right-handed.
@@nursejanainholland1978 I never want that arm sun again. My Chinese sister in law mashed down on my head and I passed out. When I came to I was on my way to the hospital. Had surgery the next day.
I had this surgery about 1 year ago. After the surgery, my surgeon came to see me and asked “how’s the pain “? My response, “what pain “? One of the best things I’ve ever decided to do.
I'm waiting to be scheduled for this surgery whew!! Been dealing with pain for years!! How was your recovery and at home care etc? Thnx in advance for sharing info!
Had mine about 5 years ago, the pain is 95% gone. Best part was, I went into surgery at 8am and was home at 2pm and stopped the Ice cream truck around 5pm, lol.
the walk through during the surgery of everything he was doing was unreal. this man is a beast. Education is king and he is empowering others with his ability to spread knowledge so fluidly. it was a pleasure to watch and gain insight on this.
Hello,i have done this surgery about 2 weeks a go at c5 c6 whit a cervical cage implant called Bia Anterior cage and after 15 days i have a big pain when i move my head in the back is this normal or not, please answer me i need to know
I'm a second-year medical student who aspires to become an orthopedic spine or trauma surgeon. Watching this video has served as a much-needed source of encouragement and inspiration while I study for STEP1 and my heaviest block of preclinical! Love the content! Great work Dr. Webb!
I have to have posterior and anterior surgery done on C4, C5, and C6. Surgeon told me it would have to be 2 separate surgery. How was the pain post op?
@@antoinenguyen4262 Actually it was ALMOST pain free. I stayed 1 night in the hospital, at 2:26 in the AM morning after surgery they checked in on me...I was in 8-10 pain at that time was given pain meds. That next day I took nothing and the 3rd day I took nothing and have had nothing since. I do have a sensation of something pushing out slightly on my throat...ZERO PAIN....just a sensation....was told this is normal and it will go away. Good luck with your surgery, I am sorry I waited so long. The afternoon after surgery I woke up feeling NO PAIN that I had been having for YEARS!!!!! This Wednesday was 4 weeks since my surgery (03/27/24) and it's smooth sailing from here on out!!!
@@Free_speech__a I still am feeling the fullness in my throat but the Dr said this is normal and will subside in time... The nerves are still trying to "find their new homes" so I do get a lot of muscle tightness on the back side of my neck (short lived) so all in all it is doing GREAT!!
I am having this surgery tomorrow and watching this made me feel a little better. This is my 1st time EVER having surgery and I am nervous but watching this showed me how easy this procedure is and knowing I’ll be pain free is worth it. Thanks for doing this video!!!
@@9983spi feel pretty good. The nerve pain left instantly afterwards. Im 7 days postop tomorrow and all i have is a little soreness in my neck and deltoid area. Im off painkillers as well too
I am from South Africa and had this procedure (c5,6 and c6,7), done on my neck a week ago. The operation was a success, and I was in the hospital for a day and then discharged. It would have been of so much value to me if I could have seen this video before the operation to know exactly what the procedure entails. The RU-vid algorithm led me to your channel to watch the video. Thank you very much Dr. Your explanation with accompanying x-ray photos and equipment used to do the procedure is fantastic. It couldn't be clearer.
My C2 down to T1 all have major issues, have put surgery off but can't any longer, see my surgeon next month. So nervous all discs are bulging and collapse, nerve impingement also and severe facet arthropathy. So nervous but to be somewhat pain free will be amazing
Out of all the content l usually watch Antonio is my hero, it’s satisfying seeing my people from a different light than what’s popular. I am not in medicine but regardless this is an extremely dedicated man making his profession seem easy and we know know it’s definitely not.
@@dankerns171 As a fellow black make myself l can state what l want as it’s in admiration and not linked to putting down another race, your shot was well off
I’m with you my brotha. It is in fact an inspiration to see a fellow brotha in a different light. I watch all of his videos as well. I want more brothas like him to reach our young men. Show them that they CAN be successful
As a 26 years old man, had this surgery in Puerto Rico 5 days ago because I had my C5-C6 so damaged for years. The procedure was great, still feel pain in the surgery area, but I don’t have no more irradiating pain to my shoulders and omoplates. It’s a very great procedure and I hope that with this done, I’ll have a normal life post recovery. God bless all people that have to fight with this type’s of vertebral problems.
I had this done in January as an emergency procedure, the day after having the MRI. C3-C4. My family doctor fobbed me off so much that I lost the ability to walk, and raise my arms. She thought my symptoms were mental health related, due to my history of depression. I started to think nobody would ever believe me. I saw a locum doctor by chance, who finally took me seriously. My neurosurgeon was amazing. He was such a down to earth man. Both him and the locum doctor gave me my life back. I highly recommend this surgery.
My husband is in for this particular surgery right now. Us being in different countries, Im scared, anxious and feeling very low, but to watch this and know exactly whats happening to him, it put me a little bit at ease. Thabks so much Dr and everyone else sharing their success stories. ❤❤
Thank you for answering the call to become a highly skilled spine surgeon. I'm sure your patients are thankful you're there for them. I know I'm thankful for my doctors, without them my life would be much different!
I need to schedule my surgery in the exact areas of the neck as soon as possible. However, I had to undergo an unforeseen heart surgery first. Now that my heart procedure is done, I realize this surgery won't be as scary as I expected. The neurosurgeon did an amazing job demonstrating how small the incision can be in some cases. I appreciate his explaining the precise details required for a procedure. Thank you for sharing this with the world. Be blessed.
I am having this surgery in 10 days. It will be my 21st orthopedic surgery. I always try to learn about them in advance. This was very informative and this doctor is impressive. I am also encouraged by the results. Thank you Dr. web for producing this content on this platform.
I just had it done a week ago. I have pain on my Rhomboid and shoulder blade areas now especially when doing an activity or laying down in bed. Will it get better?
Dr Webb - don’t know where you are but DAMN, wish I had met you before my 5 surgeries. ACDFs, non-unions, revisions and later wired together posterior. It’s a mess. And still in pain. You are eloquent and concise with your words. You seem to both care about and enjoy what you’re doing. Very awesome. Best wishes to you and your lucky patients.
I had this surgery over 15 years ago & was able to surf again. I figured that a new procedure would now be used by orthopedic surgeons like you? Mahalo for your wonderful videos...
As a chiro I hope to God I never need this but if I ever do I'm coming to you! Thanks for all you do. You've taught me and my patients so much! #FlyFightWin
Excellent skills and professionalism. I'm having this surgery next year sometime. I'm recovering from Rotator Cuff Surgery currently. I wish he could perform my surgery. Very, very impressive and a great and very informative video. Great narration by the surgeon!
Thank you for this video, Thank you Thank you! I have herd so many stories stories, so I wanted to do some research. I watched the procedure and In reading all of these comments I feel much much better! My insurance FINALLY approved my Discectomy. One year has been extremely painful! 2nd week in October I will have my discectomy and fusion! .
I recently had this surgery done2 weeks ago, and when I tell you the pain coming from my scapula and right arm was so severe I could think straight! All I wanted to do was go home and lay on my heating pad. I still have 2 clasped disc in my neck from being injured during clear air turbulence working as a flight attendant. I had lumber spinal fusion of L4 & L5 last October and I am praying for the day I can be completely pain free and stop taking opioids due to this chronic pain I’ve lived with for far too long! This is a great video and Thank you for sharing!
I’m getting my MRI soon. The pain in my neck is unbelievably painful. I pray for surgery to relieve the pain. It is non stop and absolutely miserable. Hydrocodone doesn’t even help…my muscle relaxers help some at night. Praying for anyone else who suffers. We got this. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@JillyBean1968 I know your pain. I hope you have already got the MRI and now you are arranging the surgery date. Within a few hours your whole life will change! I am praying for you...🙏🙏🙏
@@mylonad Oh how I wish it moved as fast as I want it. Everything moves at a snails pace these days. I have one more injection to see if I get relief (steroid injection). I will get it on September 4th. If this fails I will revisit with surgeon. I pray I will be able to get in to see him quickly. I appreciate your kind words and prayers. Thank you so much. 🙏🏼🩷
I had mine done a coupon of months ago, my surgeon didn’t explain a lot to me, he told me to watch a film, these Doctors over book themselves with patients and don’t have time to explain things, this surgeon explains things very well.
this is fantastic- i ve suffered for over 2 years with neck shoulder and arm pain and mri shows multiple disc herniation- so this explains what one option is- thank you for your calm presentation wish you were in the UK!
I did the same surgery 15 days ago (double fusion). It's like magic to me! I still can't believe how 28 years of unbearable pain disappeared in a 2.5-hour surgery!
@@aqsamkhan5933 Hi! The surgery lasted 2 hours. Next day I was back home. About the recover time they informed me that is almost a month and for that time I have to wear a soft collar 24/7 (I live in Greece so the European recovery protocol is slightly different than US). During that month you have mild discomfort like numbness or / and minimal pain, it's forbidden to drive and be extra cautious with lifting weights. The surgical incision also need 2 - 4 weeks for total recovery. Plus the first 2 weeks you have a slight discomfort when swelling. To sum up, it was piece of cake. I entered the surgery with myelopathy and came out healthy and pain free. If I had known earlier how easy, painless and life changing the whole process was, I would have definitely done it at least 5 years earlier.
I am going to have a surgery on the 27th of this month…. Kind of nervous but i have to do it because i had this pain for a very long time and my left arm is also not doing well and the pain is unbearable😢
@@lynnsumeraeuperio8230 You took an excellent discission, I can deeply understand you how painful can everyday be. You have nothing to fear. You will sleep for 2 hours and after you wake up all pain will be a bad memory. The secret for full recovery is to follow your doctor's instructions. For 2-3 weeks you will be a little sore as the nerves and muscles try to work normally again. Don't worry it's normal, everyday will be better and better. It seems incredible that I will have a pain-free life ahead and hope the same thing for you too! 🙏🤗
I will have this surgery on the 28th of this month. I am a little bit scared but I know I must have this surgery because of my symptoms getting worse now. Pain, numbness, weakness of my arms I dropped things and weak grip.
Thank you so much for this really informative video. Nothing like a visual to really explain things. Patient is lucky to have such competent, caring doctor. I am looking at this surgery in December and also have a very experienced spine surgeon. I feel confident all will be well.
Just had this surgery on 7/16 for C3-6 Anterior Cervical Discectomy w/ fusion, corelink. Release on 7/17 from hospital to recovery. I was so happy with having a great surgeon and the hospital care and service was top notch!!. I’ m looking forward to feeling better after suffering with Cervical Stenosis over 20 years. Thanking God for relief!! Anyone suffering with this condition please don’t wait so long to get total relief.
Thank u for informing me of this surgery. I need it done & have been afraid to have it done. I am no longer hesitating because I am in so much pain from 2 severely pinched nerves.❤
My fiancé had this surgery October 2022 and his whole life pretty much changed. No more pain, way less tightness in his neck, his arm doesn’t go numb anymore. His neck was so bad though that an hour & a half surgery took almost four hours. So worth it. If you or someone you know needs this and it’s recommended, GET IT!!!
I am currently waiting to set a date for this surgery. All of your recovery comments is exactly what I needed to see. It has been nerve wrecking to think about but this has helped thank you!
Do not worry! I had this surgery in 2007 and I am still doing fine today. Do not be afraid of the procedure. I was up and walking around that same day with little pain. To promote healing my doctor wanted me to go for walks every day. I had to wear a neck collar during my daily 2 hour walks and I was able to go back to work a week later. I know you will be fine and please don’t stress yourself over it. I also had gallbladder surgery. Now that was pure hell! My C5 C6 anterior cervical discectomy was a piece of cake compared to that. Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery! DON’T WORRY!
I'm having this procedure done on the 19th as I have been miserable and losing mobility for going on 2 years...this video has put me at ease for getting this done...thanks doc
I'm 8 weeks post-op the first thing I noticed was the terrible pain in my right arm disappeared. Im grateful. I am having recovery pains but I'm looking forward to the days ahead
Had ACDF done twice C4 C5 in 1999, then C5 C6 in 2016. Made a world of difference. Been pain free ever since and still playing golf and tennis. Excellent video.
I’m having this surgery in one week. I have been anxious about it but seeing the process has given me peace. I have a great surgeon so I’m looking forward to being pain free after more than three years of treatments.
Thank you for posting this video. I had C-3 thru C-7 done at Vanderbilt, (Dr. Shwartz was awesome) last year. Although I am fine now and gratefully, this video brings me a feeling of closure that I never had explaining in away that I could understand. My x-rays were so bad that I didn't really pay attention and just went along with everything because of the urgency of the matter. Thank you Dr. Webb because now I fully understand . I been watching you're videos for a while and now I know why! Keep up the good work!
@@nicolemaxwell6354 no complications and the pain is gone except if Ian on it wrong. I don’t use two pillows anymore and can lay flat with no pain or discomfort. I try to pay attention to my posture. Recovery for me was about a month and a half the first two weeks were the worst. Rode in a car after two weeks big mistake for me. Waited another week and was better. Hope this helps
I just had to write a report for spinal fusions at my job, this helped me tremendously, now I understand much more how to help the people who will use the results! Thank you!!
I see the surgeon next week for this. I feel much better about it now. You explained it very well. I had lower back mri last week and probably have same thing done for it. I've been in pain for years the comments are amazing. Thanks for sharing this ❤❤
I’m 2 days post-op from this. Two days into 10-weeks of healing. I feel fantastic compared to pre-op! I joked that I was going back to work the next day!
Thank you for this video. Im having my acdf done in 2 weeks. Degenerative cervical myelopathy from c3/C4 to c6/c7. Neural foramenal stenosis and cervical stenosis. Don't know what it means and the Dr's dont give much info. Was told to check videos on RU-vid. This video put me at ease, you make it look straightforward and risk free.
hey doc, could you maybe do a vid about how we can take preventative measures to protect our discs? for example, diet, exercise, posture, cutting out vices, etc? thanks
Thank you for this. I'm a new xray Technologist and they never teach us the many cases to do in the OR so I am terrified even as a new hire when it's time to go to a case because many of them I have no idea what they even are. It's hard to find videos from an xray stand point what to expect but your video provided a great explanation of the process while including a bit of xray imaging so I have a better idea what to expect for an ACDF than I did my entire senior year in radiology school. Thanks great vid, Doctor!
I hope I never need this surgery but I would have no problems having Dr. Webb operate on me. His calm demeanor in the OR and his ability to explain things so well gave me reassurance that I would be in excellent hands.
Dr. Webb love your videos, especially seeing African American brother doing what you do. I have been following your channel almost from the beginning. I watched this procedure because I c5c6 might have same surgery. Thanks for showing me what I will be going through
I had this done a little over 10 yrs ago. Spinal cord severe compressed. My hands felt like there were in a bucket of ice all the time. Horrible. Scheduled surgery a week later. Don't remember a thing. Surprisingly there was very little post op pain. Spent the night and come home the next morning. Restrictions were minimal. No neck brace or halo ring - no anything. Took it easy for 7-10 days. No shower for 3 days was the worst of it. Pretty much back to routine everyday stuff w/in a couple of weeks. Never a single question in my mind for getting this done. Since, I've been fine.
20 year ago i had a surgeon lined up and was looking at options for damaged vertibra and compressed nerves going down my shoulder. As a last ditch effort I decided to hit the gym almost every day and worked all my shoulders, neck, back, i kept going and 20 years later I'm still not in surgery
This is what most people need to do but dont. Then they get the surgery and still dont exercise. So then theyre still in pain after the surgery. Which is why theres an entire class of disease called Failed Back Surgery Syndrome wherein a huge proportion of people get spine surgery and dont get better or are even worse after surgery.
I agree that less invasive, proactive practices like this are important, but I've been very active like you've described for years and things have just gotten worse. Originally a whiplash injury in my 30s and lots of degeneration in my spine and referred pain in forearm and hand. Looking forward to relief. Can't wait to get back to workouts and my dance classes.
@listenqt good luck on your surgery luckily over the past 20 years the surgeons have gotten better at spine surgery. People used to be bedridden for weeks after surgery now they're up walking the same day
Dr. Webb is REALLY thorough, I'm having this done on November 30th 2023, my hands are numb and my right arm as well. I hope I get my balance back and this painful numbness goes away too! Thanks for the videos! 👍😎💪🇺🇸🙏
I had a degenerative disc in C4/C5 and C6/C7. I had disc replacement and had immediate relief. I got fully cleared, and three days later, I blew out C7/T1. It was the worst pain I've ever felt, and I've broken bones. I had a fusion 2 weeks ago after being in pain for 2.5 months. The pain down the arm is almost gone but still have numbness in my fingers. I now have some discomfort in my upper back/trap area, but see the doctor in 4 days..
I'm having a 3rd ACDF in a few days. I'm not worried at all about it. Although it may look brutal, there is very little post-op pain, and the pain and numbness caused by the condition was immediately gone. I've had 15 major operations, and ACDF is by far the easiest.
I'm in pain all the time, had bunch of x rays done mris, had a inguinal hernia done but arthritis has invaded all of my neck and back so I don't know 😕 what s going to happen to me, this doctor seems so good, I wish I met him❤
I am facing this surgery here in less than a month. I am having IU Neuro do the surgery. Oh I am freaking out. lol. Not so much worried about the surgery just worried about coming home. I won’t be able to come home because I have animals that will be the most excruciating part for me. But my husband is here to take care of them. I just hope this really takes care of my survey photogenic headache. It literally feels like my head is going to explode and I will have a headache for like weeks on end. It’s really unbelievable and then of course all the other symptoms associated with this I’m not quite as severe as this patient but, it’s moderate. I have immense respect for you surgeons I don’t even know how you do this. Thank you for helping people. God bless you always!! ❤
@tbone1212 I'm really glad it worked out for you! I hope for the best results, the loss of balance, numbness in my hand and arm are unbearable 24/7. Stay well my friend 🙏
I had C4-C7 about 2 months ago. Wish i had done it a few years ago. I still have the possibility of not regaining all my previous strength. Hopefully PT will help. But to not have pain is just so nice. The worst part of recovery, or maybe i should say the only bag part of recovery is wearing the hard collar. Hard to sleep in. I use a CPAP and it is "calling" for a higher pressure. Not sure if it is from the surgery and moving stuff around in there or from the collar. I can't wait to see how i am going forward! If you are trying to decide on surgery, DO IT!
Thanks for this video, Im 52 years old living in Belgium, and been living with Cervical stenosis at C4/C5/C6 since the past 3 years already got several cervical infiltrations to relief the pain, what basically keeps me from surgery is Im afraid to loose too much mobility
I have had this surgery twice. Your reason is just one of the many excuses that I use to put off the surgery for 12 years from the time of my first car accident that caused the initial injuries. The only reason looking back that I'm glad I put it off where the orthopedic surgeons that were initially offered to me were a bunch of hacks I'm convinced had I let any one of those work on me I probably would have had far worse complications than the initial problem. The internet makes doing your research far easier than it was when I was investigating but luckily that was at the beginning of the internet boom and a lot of medical schools had opened up their libraries and because the internet was so wide open they literally published surgeries live online so I was able to watch a number of these surgeries live as they were operating.
I was told that I might lose 10% Mobility per level, I have had five levels done in addition to the plates and screws I have what my doctor called a strut system that was designed and manufactured by him exclusively. I have lost very little Mobility. I know at one time he told me that about 80 to 90% of the hardware used in the world was manufactured by his company so whoever you choose you may want to talk to them about other optional Hardware to maximize your mobility.
Thank you for the beautiful explanitaion of the surgery. I had this procedure done 2 weeks ago and I am now pain free. I am a nurse and would like to know if you are single.
