Ranger Mark leads us on this hike focusing on General Orlando Wilcox's division against the Confederate battle line in and around Sharpsburg, which was the last attempt by the Union to push through to Sharpsburg on that bloody day back in 1862. Starting at the Confederate battle line where the National Cemetery is now located, we headed to where the US Regulars of the 5th Corps and then Wilcox's division formed their battle lines following crossing Antietam Creek. Mark then describes the actions taken by the union and confederate leaders and men, why the attack finally failed and the aftermath of the action.

4:20 Beautiful landscape. Terrible carnage on such pretty ground. Is it pretty because of the carnage? 🤷🏽‍♂️

McClellan should have only been a Quarter master general. He did not have the nerves or guts whatsoever to be a front line combat commander. Lincoln should have put him there. Of course Pope ,Hooker , and Irwin were worthless! Lee went through 6 Union Generals until he met Mead and then Grant . Sherman would have given Lee the same blood bath .
