Thank you for watching, I hope you will have a good time here :) PATREON / ladb FACEBOOK / ladbrestoration INSTAGRAM / ladb_restoration Email : hello@ladb.co Thanks :-)
I really love how there is an unspoken rule on the restoration channels - no annoying music or chatter. Just the piece, the person and the job. Fantastic stuff!
I was totally mesmerised by this whole process - hadn’t watched serious restoration much, but the love, respect & care given to this piece has hooked me.... sooo glad you restored that glorious rich and happy green, too.... Loved the cat inspections, the furry tick of approval - and when you came to making coffee....yumma.... ✅ Thank you for this.... ❤️
Nice to see the cat earning his wages by supervising the entire project so magnificently, and then inspecting the finished article. The tail flick indicates that it's passed.
I just discovered the world of youtube restoration videos a week or so ago and I absolutely love your channel. There's something so peaceful and uplifting about watching old, neglected objects lovingly brought back to their former glory. Maybe it's silly, but watching a stove or coffee grinder be restored is my new favorite way to unwind after work. I've always liked antiques and vintage objects and it does my heart good to see that some people are still dedicated to preserving them. (Also, I like your orange kitty!)
I always wondered why this was and is the most popular colour for stoves. They sell the remakes with this very colour im the big box hardware stores. Also it wasn't limited to metal stoves. As an East German I've seen quite a lot of coal heating in my childhood and they all had a nasty cheap ceramic version of this green. Maybe this enamel pigment was cheap and durable? It can't only be a choice of fashion. People would have picked blue and red at one point.
@@Hortifox_the_gardener this is just pure speculation, but I know in america in like, the late ish 1800s, green, especially bright green was super popular for kitchens, like people would paint their kitchens or dining rooms bright green because they thought the color aided in digestion. (it didn't, in fact the green paint they used was super full of arsenic) so maybe thats something to do with it??? idk
I love how he tries to keep as much of the original as possible. And even in the broken parts, he repairs them, only replacing the non salvageable parts.
@@scottandrews62 yet there are numerous restoration channels that replace every single piece where convenient. Basically rebuilding instead of restoring
alot of other channels basically throw out the entire piece and remake it from scratch, not that thats not cool to watch but is it really still an antique if the whole thing was pretty much replaced?
It breaks my heart to see pieces like this so warped and rusted. The piece itself is a work of art. I love to see new life breathed into items like this.
I actually saw someone asking this on a different restoration channel and the person replyed with, ton of pictures and rewatching the footage. Which makes sense since you'll possibly forget after a couple of days so its good to keep notes.
I cannot tell you how much I respect your talent, craftsmanship like yours is, unfortunately, a disappearing art. I have always loved the beauty of older objects and it saddens me when I see them being destroyed rather than restored. I so enjoyed this video. Thank you.
For those interested as I am in antiques, this is an enamelled cast iron Art Nouveau wood stove from Le Brulbois, Fonderies Arthur Martin. It would be nice to see the names of the items you restore in case other's are interested like I am in acquiring one. Beautiful restoration, however!
@@vietnamthemedgamesteam5749 well, Art Nouveau was popular between 1890 and 1910, I would say this beauty is from 1903 so can you imagine all the things this little stove has seen especially in France with two world wars? Just a magnificent piece of funcional art work.
Just imagine how proud some woman was when she had this stove set up in her family’s house. She probably had her neighbors over for tea to show off this lovely green stove. Beautiful
Too stunning for words. Imagine walking into someone’s living room & this is sitting in the fireplace ! ❤️😍🥰. Delighted to see its first use was to make some delicious proper coffee!
@@user-jm6cl6fj1l Those 50s fridges are super inefficient on power and if they have a freezer you have to clear all the ice build-up pretty often and have way less room typically , they look cool and last but really aren't worth keeping around as an every day appliance, unless your like 90
These things were dumped out by foundaries like there was no tomorrow. It's just a box with some cast iron decorative parts screwed together. Cast iron isn't used as much these days, but if you look at the stove tops or barbeque grills - that kind of thing.
That is a lot of idealising the past. You only find actual stunning craftsmanship in high class luxury items of the time or in anything that predates the industrial revolution. They are pretty and well made anyways thpugh. People of the time would think not more than a few seconds about switching to what we use for cooking and heating nowadays for way less money than what they had to spend on for fuel.
72 yr. old grandmother here for first time, watched up all the other restoration channels, so RU-vid sent me here. I love this stuff. Not that I will attempt anything, I can't put a nail in the wall straight. I also have a wood stove and have a fondness for them.
Love the Art Neuveau style of decoration on the enamelled parts of this stove Theres something so fundemental about mankind working with metals Im female & have loved metal working all my life Even though i worked in mental health my relax & unwind go to was working in metal I qualified in MIG & TIG welding Worked on restorations & new projects & later worked with precious metals in jewellery I love these programmes Its IS so relaxing but even better when your doing it yourself You get lost in working & time doesn't exist Thank you so much for this Its a beautiful stove
True, but it's not steel it's cast iron which is porous, and when it expands from the heat carbon gets trapped slowly changing the chemical structure of the iron
Out of ALL the restoration videos I have watched, this is the one I admire most. It is a gorgeous stove and deserved to be lovingly restored and this man did it perfectly.
I find it fascinating to watch people like you refurbish sometimes seeming irreparable items and how you accomplish your work. Interesting and educational. I do not have the equipment nor the dexterity to do those things so Just enjoy watching you. Thank you.
Great video. Learned a lot. The cat was a delightful distraction doing what cats do. Beautiful restoration. Wood stoves hold a special place for me...I was named after my great grandmother, whom was named after one!
Hot salt bluing ( the process which makes the steel on guns black) is essentially the same as this. Just a more controlled coating of the oxide. And because its an oxide no new oxide can form on it with ease so its rust resistant.
I for one have to say thank you for not trying to "fix" that enameled cast iron, seen far too many things similar to this where people want to modernize via spray paint or similar.
Amazing. I love your videos. No talking, no music. And everything ist done with respect and love for the material and object. This stove would be perfect for a campervan. 🥰

absolutely stunning job! green is my favourite colour! I love that you didn't over do the restoration, just cleaned it up, fixed the missing bits, and got it working again! A joy to watch, thank you
I felt a warm smile come over me when you started to put the stove back together. Can’t leave a message on my tv so I paused the video and took to my cell phone. You do wonderful work and thank you so much for sharing. Loved Ginger cats inspection. Well done! So happy to know there are artisans mastering, caring and loving the restoration process.❤❤❤😊
Cat timestamps here I found: 12:04 - Avril checking the new metal almost box. Cats love box 24:15 - Quality control time. Employee Avril on duty. Cat jump of approval. 30:41 - Orange fluff strolling. A part of the screen is covered (only tail tip is visible to me), but it should be Avril Welding can damage the eyes too. Even if a video of welding is safe (at least it should be), better safe than sorry, and it might help viewers get used to not staring at welding irl. Thanks for the video, the stove looks pretty good. May God bless you.
Absolutely amazing restoration. I'm glad the green enameling stayed in such good shape, cause that's the real eye-catcher. Also thank you Assistant Avril for the inspections! :D
That's why a lot if old items were enameled because it lasted forever. Sinks, refrigerators, stoves and a lot if kitchen utensils were so durable they were heirlooms handed down. Not sure if sinks were handed down tho 🤔
What a fantastic restoration! This is such a beautiful stove now. One thing I love about all the restorations is that the items become usable again and we can see that. Watching these is meditative.
A tip for welding footage: Just take an old extra welding mask(or buy a cheap one) and put the camera inside it, that way the light isn't intense enough to burn the sensors in the camera. EDIT: Also might be a good idea to use low ISO along with the mask, just in case.
This master's hands are so steady and experienced. his aim in keeping the saw line straight, and his welds, are inspirational. I wobble too much even when drawing with a straight edge.
Very nice restoration job. I be proud to own a little woodstove like that. There are so many unique antique woodstoves out there I'd love if you could do a restoration on the large old kitchen woodstove that was used to heat the home and to do the cooking for the family. Your work is very remarkable 👏👌
