Complete instructions and demonstration of the operation of an antique wringer washer. In this case, I'm using my fully restored 1935 Maytag Model 30WP.
Additionally, I have lots of "before & after" photos of the restoration process uploaded to Flickr. Here's the link ... flic.kr/s/aHskkBDxNY

Brad, I was talking with a member of the Maytag Collectors Club and he related that the square tub was considered the top of the line in Maytag product lineup. He felt that the square tub circulated the clothes better than the round tub models. Your video definitely demonstrates the Gyratator action of a Maytag square tub. Thank you so much for explaining the proper operation of an antique wringer washer. I especially appreciated the filling of the tub to ensure the washer was not overloaded. I could not believe how many clothes items you were able to put in the square tub with continued circulation of the clothes. Mark.

It's amazing to reflect on how efficient these machines are even today, in washing action, water conservation and just sheer durability of the product itself.

Indeed! Keeping in mind these machines were designed and built to last, before the idea of "planned obsolescence" was conceived!

Your restoration job is first class Brad, you must be very pleased with the way the machine has come up, it looks brand new again. Hopefully I can do the same justice to a couple of early model machines of my own.

I have a similar model, Just starting on the restoration. Most things are obvious in how they come apart except the agitator . Is it forced fit on something like a morse taper, a screwed on or what? Not something one would want to start beating on and break. It does have slight knurls' impressioned within the top 3 inches.

This question was somehow missed. For the benefit of anybody actually reading the comments, the agitator just sits on the "torque" or drive block. It's heavy enough that it doesn't float up when water is added to the tub. If it's difficult to remove, that usually means coagulated grease has it stuck on and should be released by use of a torch. The torque/drive block is bronze, so it won't be rust that has it stuck on.

Greetings! I just picked up a Maytag square body wringer washer. It was sitting on its side in a field, so is dirty, but not very rusty. I plan to restore it and use it as my shop washer. I have two Maytag engines - a single cylinder and a twin cylinder. Do you know if there were separate models of washers for gas or electric power? My wringer rollers have seen better days, and the drain hose is split. Do you know a good source for parts?

Hey Jason ... I do apologize for the delay in responding. To answer your first question: the model numbers varied only as a designation to identify whether the machine was equipped with an electric or gas "Multi-motor". The machine itself was not different. For example, the Model 30 (electric) if equipped with a gas Multi-motor was a Model 31. Its predecessor was the Model A (electric) or B (gas). Later model was a 32 (electric) or 33 (gas). Parts do show up on ebay periodically. If you can identify your model (and perhaps send me a photo or two), I can advise you of my parts sources by email.
