I spent a many hours in my grandmother's basement with a 1930 model. Fantastic washing capability. I have also seen the scars on people from the wringer!!
Great video! If you happen to get your hands caught in the wringer you punch that “push to release” hard and the top half of the wringer pops up so you can get your hands out. Thanks for sharing! Makes me wanna pick up another one of these gems for full time use.
Thank you for sharing this information! My mom and dad got my grandmother's old maytag wringer washer (same model) but it didn't run. The motor turned so my dad tried the cord replacement. Now it runs and is working again! Thank you!
These machines are great! I have a 1947 model, and I use it. If you look around, you should have no trouble finding a set of rinse tubs and the stand that goes with them. They have hoses on the bottom that you use to drain them like you would the washer. Then you can use the same wash water to do three loads of clothes without refilling the machine each time. I'm headed out to load mine up now!
@TheKatiesgram From the picture, I noticed that this machine has a Delco motor. If the wringer is working, do not disassemble it. The gear box that powers the wringer is a cpmplex mechanism that uses torque springs to drive the gears. The grease does not require maintainance. To check the shaft that turns the agitator for wear, try to move the shaft backward and forward. If the shaft moves more than 1/16 inch it could need the bushing and shaft replaced
Man, that's awesome! You know, I really wouldn't mind using one of these full time. It's gonna look awesome once you get it painted up and everything. Still can't believe how new it is though! I would paint it a seafoam green, and find an old Maytag decal and put it on the front.
Inn the pictures, the motor resembles a motor that was made by Delco. That motor was used in the late 1940's and early 1950's. I suggest a good quality highh-temperature wheel bearing grease as a replacement for the factory lubricant in the wringer head.
The blue colored mechanism on the wringer is a safety feature. Say your fingers go through, that will stop the wringers from turning. If you put something too thick through the wringer it will do the same thing. Large towels, blue jeans, comforters, etc. Try something thick to see it in action.
Some of those ringer washers had a grease fittings on them in different locations so you may look to see if it does if it doesn't then you would have to take it all apart in order to degrees it.years ago I had a Maytag and I had to take it all apart in order to read it and also had a speed Queen and the speed Queen had grease fittings on the gear housing and one for the ringer shaft they're like I said the Maytag didn't. So they may take that you got is a little different than the ones that I had mine was all aluminum tub was aluminum the agitator was aluminum the ringer housing was aluminum yeah it was all alone so it was like from back in the 1920s like I said it didn't have no grease fittings on it but the may take the two got is a much newer one somewhere around in the 40s or 50s so just look around at your housing and see if there's any grease fittings that's about the only thing I can suggest. Otherwise you may have to take the pure housing apart and we grease it with some heavy duty Grease.
Hey, great info...I just got the same machine and need to do some work on it...our wringer doesn't seem to squeeze as well as it should and if too much goes through, the mechanism raises up ...any ideas? Thanks.
I'd like to find one of the gas powered machines sometime...I saw one of the 2-stroke engines one time (just the engine) but it was in pretty bad shape.
My wringer does nothing what may be the problem everything else works but need to replace the part underneath that the hose atteches too it’s broke the end off
I just aquired one of these beautiful gems. My wringer is not working and would love to know anyone that could point me in a direction for a manual for this beauty.
Chad - this is retroRick LOL. did you ever figure out the wringer release malfunction? Ours does not function either. I have the repair manual and can take it apart and tinker, but I'm not a great tinkerer!
