One iconic statement that I still use to this day: "she's like toast with no buttah!"

I remember watching this episode when I was 12, that "african accent" comment made me really mad and it still does

i think the statement in that episode was funny and epic: "let them be jealous I'm too weighed down by all my diamonds".

I can’t stop laughing how hard Candace is trying to sell the coffee “buy this coffee! Buy this coffee!”

I'm sorry y'all had to be subjected to racism with that focus group, I can't even imagine having to sit through all that

“Ghetto,” “African accent,” and saying ebony isn’t pretty...it must have been so awful to listen to these racist and rude comments. I have been rewatching ANTM lately and I hate the way so many challenges are structured in a way that they tear down the contestants’ self-esteem.

It feel they only like Kyle cause she was pretty white girl. She almost broke down in tears, messed her commercial... other girls get showered with racist and homophobic and classist slurrs... and pretty white girl can mess up like that and still get good feedback? I feel nowadays Alisha's commercial would be viewed as cool and edgy... same for Azmarie. Good that the world has moved on.

Hi Annaliese!! Oh my god, I don't blame the girls for being furious at that focus group, ugh!! Happy to hear Miss Jay stood up for you. I'm dying to know what Martin Lindstrom said about the group clearly favouring the white/commercial looking girls. Personally he always made my skin crawl, blech.

I always remember watching this thinking “Annaliese is a tv presenter there’s no way she’s going to mess this up, she will be a complete natural at selling in front of a camera” 😁

Is everyone in the "focus group" white? ? why ?

I totally get why the girls were upset - it’s the RACIST comments from this focus group. Let’s be honest, if a black girl messed up, people won’t like it but if a girl-next-door white girl messed up, people will still like it. That’s racism right there - the cause of systemic oppression and people not viewing everyone equally. I love how Annaliese pointed that out, especially now ‘cause it’s relevant.

It was messed up what they said about some of the girls. The comment he made about Alisha having an African accent was stupid and racist. I didn't get why Azmarie's tattoos were brought up. The "ghetto" comment was stupid, too. Plus, that one guy was jerk (to say the least) for what he said about Eboni. It's great that you were able to evade that bs the focus group was giving and win the challenge!

I think it was obvious they liked Kyle because she was a pretty white girl... but that was not her fault. Some of the girls specially Eboni got pissed at her instead of at the people who actually were rude.

He called it AFRICAN ACCENT, like what? it was SO racist, it still makes me mad

This season had so much dynamics to it. Loved this season. Sad to hear what the focus group said but you were my FAV this season lol

That focus group was nasty. On another note I feel like I need to rewatch this cycle. Please do reactions to all the challenges and then all the photo shoots and then all the eliminations.😁😁. I really enjoyed this

I just feel bad for Kyle. I really dont know why would Eboni raise her voice against her even though its not Kyle’s fault for recieving those critics. ( even at judging after louise left ). I always loved Kyle and it was so heartbreaking when she left and Laura was like celebrating when Kyle got eliminated even though all Kyle did was try to help Laura get the stuff toy and Laura just misunderstood her and began to talk bad things about her. I suggest a video that will explain about the relationship between you guys and Kyle 🥺.

Thank you so much for doing this Annaliese, it's great to hear the perspective from someone who was actually there and horrible to learn that worse things were said. This whole challenge is incredibly hard to watch. Kirby Howell-Baptiste recently said she had noticed that when people heard her speak they were less weary of her as a black woman because she has an English accent and American people relate that with whiteness, but this shows that even if that's the case someone people's racial bias is so ridiculous they start hearing 'African' accents when people don't have those because someone is black. I'm flabbergasted by this whole challenge but its oddly poignant in revealing what people's ridiculous preconceived ideas are. I have more to say but RU-vid isn't the place for essays.

I don't get, though how in this cycle how Catharine got so pushed into the background the whole time when she was such a standout in her own BNTM cycle which I've seen most of on RU-vid! Hmm! She did say something about evil Kelly C having her own "favorites"!

If these challenges happen now, Alisha and Az would get the upper hand. Skin color isn't a factor for selling a certain product nowadays. Sidenote: all the British girls are very likable. Ashley and Alisha are hilarious to watch. Thanks Annaliese for these recaps!!

I think the one should be blamed is the juries not Kyle. It is out of her control if they like her with that dry commercial. Feel bad for her for being the punching bag for the other girls. It's not fair. For this cycle my favorites was Laura, Louise, Seymone and Alisha. Kyle is fierce but with one look. My fave photo is Ebony with the maple syrup. For the video, of course the British girls, so entertaining and professional.

I agree with you. That jury was totally ridiculous and messed up. There’s a difference between being critical and being completely disrespectful for no reason.

Eboni was bitter because Kyle didn't get any harsh feedback compared to her. When Eboni did her promo, she keeps mentioning about beauty while the product she was holding was a dog poop scooper. What does it have to do with beauty in the first place.

"African accent". I don't even know where to start. It's infuriating seeing how many moments of casual racism occur during ANTM (was it C7 Jaeda's partner who said "I don't like black girls?"), but it's even more upsetting how recently this happened. Like, C18 is *not* that far back. I feel so bad for the bullshit black women have to put up with on a daily basis.

You should do video explaination about why everyone is dissing Kyle..She seems nice although fragile..She never hates anyone but everyone comes to her especially Laura.. Understand about the teddy bear but other girls was involved too yet Laura only mad at Kyle.. Why is that? Hatred?

I've always thought the editing did you guys dirty in that "fight". I remember interpreting it as none of you being angry at Kyle herself more so just at the situation and pointing out how Alisha and Ebony did do better but by virtue of Kyle being a white girl from the south she would always be picked first. Shame she took it so personally and played the victim when in reality everyone's anger was directed at the focus group and you guys should never have been vilified.

Oh wow flashbacks of watching this episode years ago 😳😬. That panel was so bloomin racist! Its a British accent dummies 🤦 The Kyle thing...oh dear. I mean poor Kyle because it wasn't her fault but at the same time...she could have been a bit more self aware and realized that there was a big discrepancy between her poor performance and her feedback.

Kyle just has the face and there is a bit of quirky (like what she said), and her intense face is like a complementary extra. Ebony is very young at that time, i’m sure she matured.

They didn’t have to pounce on Kyle like that though and say (blame it on) you have to have thicker skin. It’s not the decision of the models it was the decision of the group. In that case whatever the group said shouldn’t have offended you. I dislike when a group goes down on one person. To me that’s an insecurity and they see her as a threat.

Omg I just saw it last night and I was shocked, how racist and uneducated he was! What the heck is African accent! Africa is a continent with diverse countries, races, and languages and accents there is nothing called African language or accent neither Asian nor even European!
