Antonio McDyess was the definition of raw talent coming out of high school, but by the time he was playing college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide, he was one the nation’s greatest while possessing an NBA ready body. He hadn’t done anything incredible in his first two years Alabama, but all changed during the 1995 SEC Tournament and 1995 NCAA tournament, as McDyess put together a 4 game stretch that put him on the map and eventually got him selected 2nd overall in the 1995 NBA Draft. He spent his early years in Denver as a lone bright spot after the departure of Dikembe Mutombo, until he was traded to Phoenix for one great year alongside Jason Kidd. He would end up back in Denver after the Infamous Free Agent story of McDyess choosing the Denver Nuggets over the Phoenix Suns due to Dan Issel pulling out all his tricks. McDyess excelled over his next three years in Denver, but a knee injury would steal most of his ’02 season, then another would steal his full ’03 season; when he did come back his trademark athleticism would only be seen in spurts. But he would re-invent his game and become a great sixth man and serviceable starter for the great Detroit Pistons teams of the 2000s, before finishing his career with San Antonio. McDyess was a power forward in the mold and playstyle of a Shawn Kemp when he got to the league, but was serious about becoming a complete player and would do so by the second half of his career. His peak was short lived and he was a tier below the all time greats like Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan during the Golden Era of Power Forwards which Mcydess’ career overlapped. But regardless of what stage of his career he was in, Antonio McDyess was a highly valued and respected player who often gets overlooked.

My 2nd favorite player behind Kemp growing up. Despite the injuries he kept at it and came close to winning a chip. @@Doknot-tb9ey Agreed. That shows how important ownership is. The late 90s Nuggets were owned by a media corporation who let Mutumbo leave for nothing in return. Stanley Kroenke bought them in 2k. Not that the league is fixed or anything or that betting officials who weren't "gambling" stold a few rings from phx... certainly a far contest.
