I LOVED my Aunt Odelia, she was messy as hell and celebrated it (it seemed). I loved her outspokeness, that she refused to wear a bra, adored Cat Stevens, never wanted or had children, and loved and care for me when my parents did/could not. It's so sad that she died a horrible death and seemed to love the wrong man for most of her life. I guess what was most important to her was exploring her creative side, i too find this the most important aspect of life. I miss her so much- I will leave it there.

All remnants of being raised by a Narcissistic mother. Never being good enough or feeling unworthy. Unfortunately, this has plagued me all my life. You can also blame the way our culture esteems the idols of being popular. Always trying my best to be there. Yet never for myself. One who was Parentified in childhood will never experience the joys a child needed to have but never experienced.

I watched this after your videos on a narcissistic parent .. I’ve watched 3 of your videos and I feel like I’ve made more progress with my mental health than I had in the past 6 years, with MANY failed attempts at therapy. I thought all therapists were garbage .. apparently just the ones I went to. This is honestly life changing, thank you.

I'm grateful to say I've made a bit of progress in letting go of the need to do things perfectly, but I know I still have a ways to go. Oftentimes I've thought back to different events saying, "I should have known" or "I should have done more" when really I understand that I did the best I could with the information I had at the time. As you so simply put, Barbara, we are all human. Working toward minimalism has actually helped with this tremendously, as has spending more time in community with others who allow me to really bring my whole self and feel safer with my mistakes (this has been particularly helpful post-covid). But I've also recently taken up sewing and, knowing full well that I WILL and even must make mistakes in order to learn and grow, I'm determined to use the experience to help in shifting my mindset. I've always loved watching creatives just doing what they do, experimenting and crafting...I want to take part in the fun and not take myself so seriously 🥰

So true when she says "were all trying to live or life on this earth as humans" Its so damn hard because we were never meant to be human ~ We were spiritual souls in the beginning and now were trapped in physical bodies working out Karma.

Please read Genesis 2:22-25. We were not made to be in spirit form, but of flesh. Adam & Eve ate from the tree of life and became sinners and that sin is passed down through generations. Sin is what makes life hard because we were separated from God due to sin. We were never meant to live this life alone...without God. God bless you.

This might not be directly related, but in case it's helpful, there's a book called "Essentialism" by Greg McKeown that I really found empowering (audiobook is great), especially because I was completely overworked at the time and just about losing my mind. It may not be applicable to your specific situation, but I often recommend it to my fellow perfectionists :)

Well, my grandpa... I spent a lot of time with him and was kind of his male son he never had. So there was plenty of reciprocal love, but boy was he messy, especially when talking about keeping tools in proper working order... you know, rounded screwdrivers, rusty scissors, shaky hammers... gee, tuning the bike according to my perfectionist taste with his tools was a nightmare 😂
