Cass's sense of humour comes through naturally on every talk show, every performance, this was just fabulous. This is a woman who can do anything! So totally sad that she died when she did. How neat to be able to see these videos. Thanks for keeping them and sharing them!
Comedic and dramatic; she did an episode of _Young Dr. Kildare._ Among her comedy work, she was Witch Hazel in _Pufnstuf: The Movie,_ Mary Beth Plotkin on _The Red Skelton Hour,_ and herself in an episode of _The New Scooby-Doo Movies._ 🙂
Neither did I; she was superb in this sketch! I must search out more. Still, that voice; it echoes in my brain forever, how strong and confident it was. I think of it whenever I feel weak or intimidated to this day and It helps me step up to face whatever it is.
I believe she took a lot of responses and set ups at her expense. It shouldn't have been. I only knew that her beautiful singing voice and harmonious collaborations with the other members of the Mamas and Papas are great memories of my early childhood.
On the other hand, the husband in this sketch was into bigger girls and called carol twiggy lol. Also she had four husbands and looked like she was onto her fifth, it didn’t seem like the jokes were at her expense much :)
@@RA82828 I think she was just a food addict and couldn't get out of it. It's caused by addictive reactions to flour and sugar. I don't know I'd say that about an obvious drug addict or alcoholic. They ARE sad in that way. I'm neither in the ridiculously obtuse embrace your fat, nor you need to be crucified and starved for it camps. But the more you eat, the more you wanna eat. Particularly when it's addictive.
If she was happy she wouldn't have been up and down with her weight. She dieted because she was unhappy with being heavy. Just ask Michelle Phillips. She would go on fasts and eventually her heart gave out. She wasn't happy until she had her own show two weeks before she died.
Just over five and a half minutes, a little slice of life for five people, and it is so well written and performed. Cass Elliot was wonderful and gone way too soon.
CASS WAS SUCH A PHENOMENAL LADY!!! She had more talent in her big toe than all of Hollywood today! Fantastic singer, drop dead gorgeous, extremely intelligent, a truly funny women with perfect timing. Cass was a class act the whole way! It's so devastating that she was taken so soon from us. What I wouldn't have give just to meet her once😊
Cass Elliot was a genuine talent with the ability to effortless sing and act. She had a tremendous voice and really sought to distance herself from her hippie past. Like all people, she had her weaknesses, and it's likely that her weight eroded her sense of self and led her to make some poor decisions. We all do that. For the most part, ours don't end up in the newspaper or on TV.
Thanks for uploading this gem Reese! It’s an absolute revelation who fantastic Cass is as an actress, her comic timing is excellent! I wonder if someone would explain Vicki’s costume to me? As soon as she walked out I thought she looked like a grown-up orphan Annie, but it didn’t seem to get a huge laugh from the audience so then I thought it might have been an unintentional coincidence. I assume this was filmed in the mid-70s from the look of the film, a while before Carol starred in the motion picture Annie. I wonder if I am right?
Thanks Reece. Appreciate you sharing these. I love anything with Cass Elliot in it. I loved Carol Burnett. Don’t know how I missed so many of these. I was out of the country between September 1973 and April 1974. Was that when this was broadcast?
God bless her, Cass Elliot. I just hate to hear the puns regarding to her weight. That must have been really tough. She was an absolutely gorgeous woman and living in today life would have been a lot easier for her. I really mourned the day that she died. She was a fantastic woman. And her daughter is so much like her. Even talks like her. Rest in eternal peace, Cass
By all accounts, she had a good attitude about her build and was able to handle such dialogue. Knowing how sensitive Carol is, she would not have wanted Cass to be uncomfortable.
I don't know how the rumor got started that Cass Elliot choked to death on a chicken sandwich in 1974 but it's not true. I don't know how many times I heard that rumor or something similar in the following years. I heard it was a hamburger. A hot dog. A bologna sandwich. Cass Elliot had a bad heart and died from a heart attack.
When I was a kid my sister told me Cass choked to death on a ham sandwhich. I didn't know until much later that it wasn't her true cause of death. Cass crashed dieted and lost 100 lbs and she burned her candle on both ends too much and all of it wore her body out at such a young age and her heart gave out.
Cass made several appearances on the Carol Burnett Show. There was a great rapport between them. I remember seeing a picture of Carol going to Cass’s funeral, and she looked absolutely stricken with grief.
@@RA82828 sure, normal... More like blind to reality. People became morre aware of reality and stopped laughing at this kind of crap and looked at it for what it was and what it was promoting. Not funny and neither is worshipping statues that represent hate.
They were making fun of backwards communities where girls married young. If the actress was really 11 it would have been disgusting but she isn't. Its just an exaggeration no need to get yourself in a tiffy and scream cancel!
I'm so glad this skit was a little more repsectful of Cass - on Burnett and other shows they overdid the fat jokes and it was kind of cruel. She never complasined.
Cass was ahead of her time, innovative, super intelligent, she did all the things women are doing now (having babies w/ out active fathers around), single motherhood, career / work, all while keeping her integrity, class & humor. You Ms. Cass passed away way before you should have. I am now understanding after watching the bio. on her, she was 'asleep' sitting up and choked to death on her sandwich, well the SLEEPING PILLS prescribed to her , killed her ultimately... & untimely, unfairly. I believe Ms. Cass was eating a sandwich for dinner and maybe fell asleep while eating cause the pill knocked her out and she was unable to swallow her food .... I am so sorry Ms. Cass. I hope your daughter reads this. I wonder if you daughter sings as beautifully as you did, I bet so. Freedom of speech & press USA copyrighted.
