I'm still surprised that Metal Gear and Ape Escape are in the same universe.

I also loved how if you crouch, the music will change its tone. That little attention to detail for the OST is really appreciated.

Ape Escape is one of the greatest platformers ever... Man, so many obscure or niche platformers that are great... Mischief Makers, Jumping Flash, Croc, Klonoa, Chameleon Twist, Plok, Mr. Gimmick, Jazz Jackrabbit...

Ape Escape 3 is one of the most underrated games ever in my opinion.

Ah, one of my favorite childhood PS1 games. I used to play the crap out of this, Toy Story 2, and Spyro 1.

While you did mention it briefly, one thing I found interesting to learn recently is it turns out the game got a separate English dub in the UK with British voice actors. I also know this happened with Ape Escape 2 as well and there's a very weird thing to note about the version of the game that's available as a download on PSN. The version of Ape Escape 2 on PSN is the European version so it uses the British dub, but the trophies in the game still reference the American dub, making me think someone at Sony America put the wrong ISO file on PSN and just couldn't be arsed to change it later (or at least offer the option to switch the dubs, because one reason why I want to play the American dub of Ape Escape 2 is they got the original voice of Ash Ketchum to voice the main character in that game, which makes the Pokemon reference in this video's title even more amusing).

I want Ape Escape 4 as much as i want Half Life 3

As someone who has never played an Ape Escape game (I know, shame on me), I think my favorite things about this game is that it (at least seems to) has the manic energy of a good saturday-morning cartoon.

Ape Escape was developed by SCE Japan Studio, Shift, h.a.n.d and epics, Sony and Ubisoft were just the Publishers.

Maybe the reason that Jake was named Buzz in Europe was because outside of the two spikes in the middle, his hair looks "buzzed." That way, his name would match with Spike, the guy who has completely spikey hair.

I will hugely argue that most of the monkeys have different ways of approaching them that makes them super fun to catch without it getting super repetitive. So while it’s true it is repetitive, I think a lot of the charm comes from what the monkey does, how it reacts to you, and where it is in the stage that makes the repetitive nature of catching or collecting something more interesting and developed with its charm.

one of my favorite series ever, i played a lot of ape escape 2 and 3 as a kid so they are my favorites! ape escape 2 introduces proper boss fights and ape escape 3 introduces transformations that give you powers for a while this series is just super fun and silly and the music and level design is great! playing these always cheer me up

Great video Ant! And oh my god, this game is so nostalgic for me, use to play this all day when I was about 6. Even though I never even beat it... Gonna dust off my PSP and give this game another go after about 8 or 9 years.

this series was still a thing at least in Japan. not sure if it still famous there though. but damn, you just made me remember this damn cool game. this was basically my Crash/Spyro from PS1, since i never played any of those two until the PS2 era (at least with Crash, never played Spyro). i loved this game to death as a kid. one of my favorite PS1 games ever.

Ape Escape 3 is one my favorite games of all time, so I’d absolutely love if they made some kind of Recaptured Trilogy. I really hope they include PipoSaru Racing in it as a bonus, though.

I remember playing the demo of Ape Escape 2 all the time when I was little. The farthest I got was when you get to that submarine 😂 also the opening theme was very catchy!

I remember this game. The sounds was loud the voices grateing the controls a cluster fuck and the monkeys a pain in the ass but I loved every second of it. I even remember useing the toy car to ram into the monkeys as i jump from tree tops to do a leaping catch.

Two things were always so memorable to me from playing this game *(which I still have btw)* 1. Spector's PAL voice: I have no idea who did Spector's voice for the PAL/Australian/European version of this game, but he did such an incredible job of voicing Spector. I was so bummed when they replaced him and dumbed Spector down for the 'lols'. 2. Soundtrack, mainly the T-rex's theme. Along with the original Spyro the Dragon games and Kameo: Elements of Power's soundtracks, Ape Escape's soundtrack stood out a lot too. I think this game is up next for a remake :)

Dude, how do you forget the boss fight with the massive ship on the tower? I think the clown counts too, then there's the Go Karts Jake and the final specter battle. Also mini fights with robots, a badass looking silver knight and monkey mechs

Man that was a blast to the past. I love ape escape, I remember last year picking the first game up to re add to my collection and it was so fun to go through the game again.

Ape Escape and the Tomba games honestly give me the most nostalgia

I loved Ape Escape me and my mom would play it all the time back in the day when I was in my 30's and her her 50's.

More people do need to play Klonoa. I remember this is the first game I played that NEEDED a twin stick controller. I remember renting it at the local video game store, and the person behind the counter was like "do you have a duel stick controller? you can't rent this without one"

Ape Escape is one of my all time favorite games. I love that you played Crumbling Castle in the background of the video, which is my favorite song of the game. Note on the minigames, as solo playing games, they are kind of meh, but in 2 player, they are a lot of fun, especially for people back then who didn't have many games to play. A (ski) racing game, a fighting game and an arcade shooter might not seem like a lot today, but back then it added a lot of variety.
