Funnily enough, in one interpretation of the story I read, Galatea WAS originally a statue of Aphrodite that Pygmalion was in the process of sculpting.

I mean, Aphrodite is LITERALLY the ideal woman (being a goddess of beauty and all in her home culture) she probably would be surprised if he didn't describe however he saw her...and however he saw her would likely be his personal ideal, but she IS the general ideal even if everyone perceives something different, because thats what gods are.
@@cottonballs185 Not quite. Galatea basically turned out to be a Yandere, thanks to Hercules’ rather shallow criteria. So he dumped her right before the prom. She retaliated by using her shape shifting clay powers to wreak absolute havoc at the prom. Unfortunately for her, the fires hardened her into a lifeless statue. So Aphrodite came down again, and called out Hercules for making Galatea the way she ended up. Hercules admits that he was wrong and asks for Galatea to be reborn as “her own person”. She comes back, Hercules asks for a dance, and she brushes him off, stating that she’s not interested in him. Hercules takes this gracefully, understanding that he probably deserved that after everything. Galatea walks off, presumably to live a normal life (and bone Ajax).
Well the Disney cartoons based on their movies like this and the Aladdin one had very inconsistent animation iirc. Sometimes it was good othertimes it was derp faces and static poses
Hercules is apparently the only son that matters to Zeus’ friends. The opening song’s lyric _”and then along came Zeus”_ is pretty much the perfect description of him.

@@guardian6788 In the mythology Zeus raped women left and right. The only good thing about him is he helps heroes (which is still occasional). Despite that, Heracles is chivalrous in the mythology just like the movie and show. It's unfortunate media makes Zeus to be a god of justice and Hades to be evil just because he's the lord of the dead when in reality, Hades didn't do anything horrible to society besides to Theseus and his brother but even then one can argue there's justification because they did wrong to Persephone (Hades' wife).

The story "Pygmalion"(which the ep was based on really and had the title character)had Pygmalion make a statue based on an image of Aphrodite, which she eventually brought to life, so....yeah.
Well she isn't starting a war over being called the prettiest and she isn't openly having sex with Ares while married to hephaestus. Not a high bar to pass. The Disney version got rid of every God's flaws and questionable behavior. Except for Hades (arguably the best) who's now just the Devil.
Hercules was still special among Zeus's illegitimate children in that he also got breast fed by Hera a bit before she changed her mind because the baby bit too hard. The spilled milk formed the milky way. So he made quite the mess Though in Disney's version he is a legitimate child.

The thing really underrated here is that Aphrodite is offended when Hercules doesn't care for her personality. She is the goddess of love, and true love is not about the aesthetic, but about the personality.
@@VirtualnomadVirtualnomad I know the Aphrodite of the Greek mith was like that, and that she was the symbol of carnal love, while her son Eros was the symbol of true love, but in a kid's show's context, I find it remarkable that they pointed out the importance of other things other than the appearance, may it be through an "inaccurate" Aphrodite
She is the goddess of all love. Hence why in some contexts she is a raging bitch who can't accept the idea that anyone is better than her, and yet in others she is a caring mother who protects her kids. So in this context of the story, she would care about personality because the ship she is about to set sail is going to depend on the two getting along, not just about looks. Particularly since Hercules is the son of Zeus AND Hera, where Hera is a pretty big fan of the whole "marriage is forever."
@@davidtucker9498 that is true! People can’t help being attracted to certain things but doesn’t mean for it to be hurtful in a way. But if the person puts being attracted to certain traits to the extreme than that’s a problem.

Jiggle physics aside, it's actually insane just how well this cartoon from '98 is animated. Head movements, facial expressions, how much everyone is moving instead of just standing there. I know this had Disney money, but not even the best Disney cartoons of today can hold a candle to this.
That's because they're pushing everything to 3d to pump out movies (reusability of the models and assets). Definitely not as much attention to detail and I definitely noticed they're afraid to exaggerate movements and facial expressions due to the aspects of 3d and wanting to make their animation look realistic (at least for Disney). It also might have to do with the modeling and rigging since if you stretch a sculpture it might deform in a really weird way (think ragdolling in any video games). Traditional animation is coming back hard though, especially integration of both 2d and 3d (think Arcane, Klaus, and Bad Guys) due to new programs allowing so. Blender's Grease Pencil is a great example of this.
For some reason, whether it's old disney cartoons or in anime, I find the hand drawn lends itself a different quality when it comes to representing expressions. A lot more exaggerated, different and stands out as unique. All 3D movie character faces feel sort of "samey" to me e.g. Tangled, Frozen, Moana, Encanto.
He said tall, not an specifict number or to be taller than hi, IF he is tall as and he is 2 cm shorter than him she is still tall, if she is 2cm over than him she is still tall. If he is short af and she is 2 cm taller than him she is still short.
