Good question! The carplay module uses a wifi connection, which is initiated with a bluetooth connection on startup. The module knows the CAN identifier of the OEM microphone and therefore knows how to use this. You basically don’t need the car bluetooth anymore
Thanks for the great video. I have one of these I've just installed in my Audi A3 2016 - seems I have the same MMI system as yours. I did all the installation and screen is working for Android auto with maps etc, but no sound from any apps. I heard you have to activate AUX but can't find any info on how to do this. Do you know what I need to get the audio to work?
Hey thats nice to hear! Did you order at audiovolt as well? I had the same problem at first. You need to go into the OEM system, to media. Then you want to change input from Bluetooth to AUX. Now everytime the system boots up, it will use the AUX audio from your carplay system :)
Hey there, can you maybe tell me more in Detail where you placed the audiovolt box? I have Everything dissasembled Glove box and want to put it on the best place. Also the Cables are a Bit Long and i dont know where to keep them Togheter… on top they are disturbing so i cant fit in the glove Box back in… thank you in advance

Haha yess this was in Germany! It does still fit the E-Tron hybrid system. You can switch between carplay and the oem system so no problems there… just hold the Menu button to switch
@@DamnFast I just fit this unit in my A3 e-tron from 2015, it appears to work but I cannot get any image of android auto on my screen... Everything does connect like it should and I do have sound via the AUX input like you described. I thought it was my dip switches, double checked those but they should be fine. Any idea why everything but the display works?
Hi! do you know if these kind of systems require a music interface to aux adapter to work? Mi a3 has bluethooth and a music interface but i read on some forums that an adapter may be required for it to work correctly, or does this particular unit route the audio through the central system cables? ( the pink and grey coaxials in the glovebox). thanks in advance
On mine they supply the ami aux adaptor which must be connected in the centre console so that the aux input can be chosen. You don't actually write it up to anything though.
Nopee, on older systems you only needed to put it in for the car to recognize the aux in the mmi… Than you can just use that as your audio input. But as said, you don’t need to do any of that with this system
