When I went to my doctor about my depression and anxiety I wrote everything down before I went. When she asked what was wrong I stated crying and handed her my notebook. She read it, told me it was very helpful, and then asked questions from there. Just an idea :)
I have bad social anxiety and when talking to anyone including my doctor I shut down and my mind blanks so I always forget what I need to ask her and what I need to talk to her about, so I always down a list of what I need to talk to her about so I don't forget. Also I hate when its quiet. And it's often quiet in a doctors exam room so I play music on my phone. Just on low so it's not completely quiet while she's typing on her computer or while I'm waiting. If your doctor is a good doctor and a good person, they will be understanding of what will make you more comfortable and they will work with you to help you.
I was thinking the same thing. I am way better at communicating now, but at one point I had to write it out for my then bf..and he understood where I was at. Then we talked from there.

For those who struggle to tell their doctor about their depression or anxiety: try writing things down. Write the dark thoughts and feelings down when you feel them. You can even write it as if you’re writing a letter to someone. Then let your doctor read it. It helped me soo much to be honest and open
Amazing advice. I know with my mental health problems I still have to fight the urge to keep it all inside and actually express how I'm feeling and tell other people. Big hugs to anyone reading this, you're strong and there's help out there :)
Just so you know, I can't unsubscribe. While I was pregnant, I watched so many of your videos that my infant son now recognizes your voice and it calms him down. Lol so i'm stuck for life. Edit: Thanks for all the likes and comments. It was completely unexpected lol
Electrician here: getting struck by lightning entirely depends on whether or not you're wet when you get struck. If your skin/clothes are soaked to the bone, the majority of the current runs through the water on your skin. If you're dry as a bone, the current runs through your veins/arteries instead, burning them to a crisp. Your organs starve to death and you die from lack of bloodflow (unless the shock goes through your heart, where you just die outright as the heart burns up).
@@SoggyBrickWallfor the same reason zookeepers know what tigers are capable of. Consider high voltage electricity as a venomous snake. It can strike and kill in a moments notice so it's important to understand it.

5:16 I'm glad Dr. Mike brings this up. Ever since I told my doctor about my mental health, I started feeling extremely uncomfortable when her or my nurse is in the room because it makes me feel like I did something wrong. If I didn't tell my mother about my suicidal thoughts and my almost attempts, then I would have never gotten help and would not be here today. She's the one who brought up mental health with my doctor. I still feel anxious and guilty going to a checkup though.
You're definitely ripe for a podcast. I can see it flowing really naturally from your current content and expanding into new territory. You have a great voice to listen to and are engaging. Lots of people will love this. I personally can't follow audio-only things like podcasts and audiobooks, so while I cheer this project on, I'll be sticking to your videos.
My doctor is a friend of the family. He tends to be very protective, of me especially because I'm in such poor health. He's incredibly focused and thorough, and caught things many other GPs miss.(He's an internist.) I believe the doctor is extra protective BECAUSE our families are friends.
I think the BMI chart should be adjusted for body type. Different body types have different fat and muscle distribution, naturally. When was younger, I weighed 115 lbs, I'm 5' 1". According to that chart, I was over weight by 15 lbs. If I lost just five lbs, I looked sick.
Dr Mike 20,000 upvotes is a lot..... and may take a while. In general we all want a podcast where you talk about all science stuff and cool medicine things and also about studying and school and university and world events and your life and how awesome it is to work in a hospital and all the cool people and how awesome surgery is and all that awesome stuff!!! Now we are waiting....🙃
You should do a video on vaccines, I know you have mentioned them before. But I feel like there are still way too many unimformed people out there, who could benefit from a conversation.
@Nicolas Broszky Its usually socialy accepted to touch certain body parts of woman/men but not the other parts. Idk if its a genuine question for u...but arms/hands/shoulders are usually acceptable to touch for both genders, they arnt realy considered "sexual body parts" or whatever. Not saying it CANT be sexual. But generally speaking, those body parts are not considered strictly sexual.
As an aside, vinegar is great against rust and also for pet odor. If your dog/cat pees on your carpet, apply white vinegar directly and then put a garbage bag over it for 2-4 hours. The acid of vinegar will completely deodorize the urine and make sure that there is no yellow or brown stain. The reason for the garbage bag is to keep the vinegar working longer, because it's no good if it dries out too quickly. You can do the exact same thing for sofa cushions too, but I would take the zippered cover off and put both the foam and cover inside different garbage bags (after you spray them with vinegar) Source: former carpet and upholstery cleaner
I was using apple cider vinegar for a while and started to get really bad heart palpitations. I went to urgent care after they got so bad one time, and after taking some blood they told me my potassium levels were really low. After looking it up, I found out that apple cider vinegar can actually contribute to low potassium levels, which can result in heart palpitations and other symptoms:)
This actually happened to me too but I had no idea the reason. I assumed it was because of the Apple cider vinegar that I was drinking everyday (just 1 tbsp) so I stopped and they eventually went away. I’ve never seen anyone else talking about it thoigh
@@KA-gy3lz That info is all over the place. Dozens upon dozens of youtube videos by MDs, DOs, Clinical Nutritionists, etc. The benefits and research papers are easily found both in the US and the EU. Look them up. That said, ACV can and will decrease your potassium levels with prolonged use. Especially for women. (Age counts here too) A simple solution is to supplement your electrolytes with magnesium, potassium, etc. For the record, I have a glucose monitor and a ketone monitor. I take my tests upon waking up, then fast until 1PM with my last meal at 6PM (6-hour eating window.). This morning's glucose levels are 50!! and Keytones are 2.8!!!! THIS IS GREAT! Obviously, it's what I eat, when, and doing ACV and EVOO (two tablespoons a day) as part of my regimen plays a part. How do I know, I simply stopped doing ACV for 2 weeks and morning glucose was usually over 90 -110. Again, don't simply watch 2 or 3 vids on the topic. And always understand the source. I respect Dr. Mike's opinion and is correct about a cure-all for everything. However, the MD's medical curriculum doesn't educate a high degree of nutrition as opposed to a DO. I would encourage you to look up Dr. Boz M.D., Dr. Mindy Pelz, the Motivationaldoc, KenDBerryMD... OK my fingers are getting cramped! You get the idea. Check them out.

PODCAST PLEASE!!!! Btw I love to learn about most anything but the way you explain and describe things in a fun quirky way makes it that much more enjoyable. Also, I haven't seen all of your videos but if you haven't yet, could you cover some topics please? Cerebral Palsy, Microcephaly and Epilepsy. My niece suffers from all three of these and more and I want to learn as much as I can about them
Wow that story from when you were 4 in Russia really brought back memories. I had something very similar happen to me in Russia at day care. We were laying down for nap time, and my friend and I were fooling around, in the process I was trying to toss him this metal plate like a frisbee, and this girl sat up in bed right as I threw it and intercepted it with her head. Crying ensued, and the teacher to punish me made me strip down and walk naked across the entire room of kids, on my way to the principles office...I was like 5ish at the time. That memory really stuck with me as well...that bench outside her office was cold as hell.
I used to be EXTREMELY lactose intolerant and used Lactade for any dairy consumption. I started eating various European cheeses and also some yoghurt and now I can eat anything (even ice cream) with no reaction. Not sure what caused the improvement, but I relate it to eating the various European cheese.
I know someone who was struck by lightning in Ceder City Utah on a farm, he must have gained super powers because he is on of the greatest men I know, ultra worried about him and his wife right now with the covid-19 virus going around!
@@GaijinCreature I'd like to know as well, I believe they guy I know who was struck may have had scars but if he does I never saw them. I know he had to have his heart restarted on the way to the hospital and had to worry about his heart the rest of his life, I wish I remembered the exact story of how he was struck. He may have been moving a metal pipe and that's why he was struck but I am not 100% sure. I might call him up and talk to him about it because this comment section has me curious how it happened and if he has scars or not
Can we also just mention how unsanitary it was that they washed your poopy underwear in a drinking fountain? I am surprised if that didn't get people sick.
Hairstylist here. When it comes to dandruff it depends- head and shoulders works only for oily dandruff. If you actually have dry scalp go with tea tree or moisturizing shampoo 😁 head n shoulders can dry your scalp out worse.
One of my most severely brain injury rehab patients was a 10 year old struck by lightning during a soccer game. He was paraplegic with spastic paralysis, severe myoclonus, ocular motility at less than age 6 (according to testing but observationally about age 2). It all depends on where the bolt hits and travels in the body. For him it was the spinal cord. Super sweet kid. ❤ Then like you said, sometimes it's just a relatively mild event and/or without long-lasting effects.
Hi Dr. Mike I am a CCMA and work as a surgical coordinator in my office. My question to you is, why is it that in the medical field, when there’s a patient, who is also a doctor, the providers in the office prioritize their “doctors patients” even when there are numerous patients that were waiting longer before them. I understand of what is a “colleague courtesy” but I feel this is unfair for the patients that don’t have a doctor’s title, who were waiting longer for their surgeries. Thank u for your honest response
Dr. Mike, can you do a full video on the research for/against apple cider vinegar? I know many people who praise it; however, I have not seen any actual science for it. Love the videos!
livmarz For me it helped by printing out pictures online of the human anatomy with and without labels and also go to the anatomy lab in your school which most likely would have models (skeletons)
Download some anatomy learning apps in the AppStore like Human Atlas! Visual learning and 3-D images are super nice nowadays for tackling that stuff. Oh, and flashcards w no labels on front but answers on the back. The Princeton Review has a nifty set!
