the thing from my test is, for a noncomplex lighting scene like this , the heic format does equally fine job. So, Im interested to see you do such comparison
Raw is about having more color information, it’s not all about fixing bad lighting. On my 11Pro max the colors get all blotchy and broken if I try to do too many stylized edits
We bought 2 iPhone 12 Pro Max and they both have awful antenna receptions and to return them and go back to my iPhone 11 Pro Max way better for rural areas
What‘s the difference between an Apple ProRaw file and a normal Raw file you‘ve been getting for years now on the iPhone using alternative photo apps in this specific application?
The Apple ProRaw allows you not only to shoot standart RAW, but also use Apple's computational photography features like Smart HDR, Deep Fusion and even Night Mode (like in the video). You can't do these when shooting regular RAW
Hi mate, thanks for the really, really helpful reply. I haven't even used standard raw on a smart phone before as I just shoot with my workhorse cameras. ProRaw piqued my interest and it's been so far the only smartphone raw I've played with.
BINGO !!! That’s great. That’s exactly how it’s done by Pro’s - just choose your POV - Tripod lock off - Don’t move it. 1: Do a static back plate of background 2: Then move the vehicle into place 3/4 front or rear. 3: Then start lighting the vehicle with lights & reflectors. - NOT FLASH. 4: Then in post paint all the panels through your layers - everything will align perfectly if you mask it properly & your kept you lighting constant throughout . Do this till you get it exactly where you want it. Great work Champion. This looks great & considering these are 25 meg RAW files & it’s only ever going to be used for SM or YT (not billboards or A3 printing) your in business👍🏻💪🏼🎥 I’d import them into Capture One 20 Version 13.1.0 for editing & then your off to an excellent start. Push them out as Tiff’s & then do your grading in PS 22.1.0 or Adobe DNG 13.1. Sweet !
Great results but a bit frustrating that you didn't walk us clueless newbies through the steps to combine photos, etc. Much is assumed that's lacking in my ancient brain. Looking forward to future content.
Hi mate, for a quick rundown if you want to experiment, you start with a base exposure with no artificial lighting, then stack the exposures over with the parts you want to light with, change their blend modes to lighten, then mask out the parts you don’t want. For headlights, use screen instead of lighten blend modes.
0:55 This exposure is shit - can't see what's on the screen. Take the time to adjust it manually, or - better still - take a screencast instead of recording a screen through an external camera, esp. if you only allocate
Have you tried editing the raw files on you phone? When I adjust exposure down too much then the exported photos will show fractured colors or greens or reds in the shadow part of the image. Using Lightroom on my iPhone btw
Shot entirely on iPhone 12 Pro Max. But with supplemental lighting, and 3 exposures combined in post. So it’s not an “in camera” photo, it’s a pro technique, but a technique that can still be done with the phone nonetheless.
Not for the purposes of what I did here. You can see in Adobe Camera Raw at the top window it read the files as iPhone 13 (!) so it has no idea what camera this is from. Adobe will eventually release correct picture profiles so the image settings and output might look a bit nicer!
Josh here, with the iPhone in the video. Ive been using the 14.3 public beta for a couple of days and all good, I'm yet to have any issues. Battery life still seems really good and I haven't had any apps crash or restart.
I would assume so. 1x is the best quality, and raw is supported in all lenses. I’ll get Josh to comment on whether night mode is supported in other modes though.
