Perhaps he did push him. Perhaps he was trying to help and someone knocked him into him. In no way will I justify the actions of the group of individuals just like I could not justify Mr Miu. Yeah, the group was drunk and bullying, which was probably intimidating, but that doesn't justify stabbing 5 people multiple times, including disemboweling someone and stabbing a kid in the heart. I believe the group was definitely guilty of attacking him with words, pushing, and maybe even hitting him. Again though, this guy took it to a deadly extreme.The force it takes to disembowel someone, especially with a pocketknife, is significant (I worked in trauma and have seen stabbing victims). The guy didn't give out a warning, showing the group he had a knife and tell them he would use it if necessary. What was also telling is he didn't just stab someone once in a non-lethal place, which easily could have ended the conflict. After stabbing everyone, he chose to get rid of the knife and tried to leave the river so he wouldn't be caught then when he was, he lied to the police. Each of these choices points to the crime not being one of self-defense, especially when you add it all up. It may have started as an act of self-defense, but it certainly didn't continue that way. What is even more telling is the group was unarmed. The group most certainly made some horrible decisions that day and to bully someone the way they did is despicable. Their choices, however, do not warrant such a violent, ugly crime. No one deserves to be attacked the way those young people were that day, the man is absolutely guilty and needs to be held accountable.

The defense allowed it because they were hoping he would screw up and say something incriminating against himself. The judge allowed it because there is no rule that you can only give yes and no answers. It's up to the lawyers to object or try to prevent it, then the judge simply rules on whether or not the lawyers are following the rules. In some cases there is information that won't be allowed in court, and they ask witnesses to be brief so they don't accidentally (or on purpose) say something that gives it away. It's different for every case.

However The defense is arguing the opposite. We need them on the stand. We need to expose them on the stand with questions that will expose the true nature of this attack. The look on AJs face right before he was stabbed is a look of trying to understand and communicate. His hand is lightly on the attackers shoulder.

​@Annie497The knife guy was the aggressor for everything!! He charged at a random group of kids and started aggressively shoving their tubes and mumbling. Of course they were teasing a nutty weirdo who ran up and started ramming their tubes without explanation!! Bystanders even came to intervene on the teens behalf because the guy was acting so crazy, and then he punched one of the bystanders, who was a young girl in the face! That's why the boys pushed him down because he punched a random girl!! Then he stayed smiling and stabbing everyone like a lunatic!!!

My heart broke watching this young man retell his experience. Very brave of him.

AJ has been through hell. I guess he was warned it'd be tough on the stand, but the defense lawyer wouldn't stop harassing him, even after judge said enough already. He had to have his go at him again before he finally quit. Those hands he had on the man were open. If he was grabbing and pushing him down, his fingers would have driven into him. I believe him when he says he was trying to de-escalate the situation.

He came back bc he was looking for his phone, not to murder. They attacked him. it was his own knife he had for cutting tubes apart. He was getting near to them as he was looking for a phone that he figured went in the direction of the current. U have obviously never been tubing. He was attacked by mob of bullies, plain and simple. Yeah, he should not have stabbed, but they attacked him 1st. Self-defense. It was self-defense.

He had legit reason to have knife as brought out in further testimony.

Watch the first part with the defense attorney explaining. His group was the small pocket knife using it to cut strings and or tie rafts. Not familiar with the how it's done.

Having a buck knife when all of the tubes are tied together does make sense in case someone gets tangled up and you have to cut the rope. There's a lot of logs and limbs sticking out on the river that could catch the ropes in between the tubes If the defendant never punched the girl. None of this would have happened. This is all because a 50-year-old plus man punched a teenage girl

The drinking matters not much in self defense law here but all were drinking a lot especially the kids obviously when you see the video. Really bad behavior all around. Those kids learned a bad lesson about bullying and disrespecting adults but should have learned it way before that! Scary 😨 kids these days! WOW 😮

This young Man and 12 other people attacked a single individual in a drunken stupor based on taunts of "he's a pedophile," "raper," which were completely unfounded. The Defendant was minding his own business trying to find his friends phone in the river when a group of football players began to taunt him. One of the young men was holding up a phone the Defendant thought was his friends so he tried to grab the boys inner-tube to keep them from leaving. He did not lay hands on any of the boys. Miu stumbled and fell, dropping his snorkel and mask then began to reach around under water for it while the boys went full Lord Of The Flies. Miu trues to leave, instead of floating down river the boys pursue him while two female adults simultaneously come flying in cursing demands at Miu and putting hands on him while another young man tries to choke Miu, someone yells "he hit a woman" then the mob goes full attack and punches the guy into the water. This young man on the stand who claims to be a peace keeper does nothing of the sort. It was a tragic $hit show with harsh lessons for everyone but so far the only one being asked to take the teaching is Mr. Miu. None of the attackers have faced charges.
