I grew up with my granny making fried apple pies. She believed the coffee pot should be hot and the cake dish full because you never knew who would stop to visit. And as for selling them, the ladies of the church had one day a week they gathered and made these pies and sold them to help pay off the church expenses. It was a small town and everyone in town knew the schedule -customers were always waiting for them. Wonderful old memories ! ❤️

there are many varieties of fried pies ..apple , cherry .peach. lemon custurd , chocolate..... they are all very popular. my son in-law loves fried pies..a teaspoon of lemon juice in the water would help stop the apples from turn'in brown on ya. Those little pumpkin looking squash are patty pan squash is what we call them.Patty pan squash is great if ya slice it up toss with some olive oil and seasonings and roast in the oven .. dang you gett'in enough veggies to feed the church...lol Yes you are truly so bless to have an abundance of food on your property in these times that so many have are having trouble getting food for their families. Praise God for all his blessings and tender mercies.

I believe those squash that you said look like little pumpkins are called ' patty pans ' . But don't quote me on it ! :)

Hello Miss Helen, I, like so many others who have said this same thing, I wish you were my neighbor here in Bend, Oregon! Also, just like another person recently I just found you today. I’ve watched many of your videos……I haven’t accomplished anything else so far today. So, I said the heck with it, I’m watching you peel apples and I’m waiting for the recipe. The first video I found this morning you were opening cards and gifts people had sent you! What a lovely gesture for random people to send you something just to let you know you are making a difference in their lives. I was shocked when you commented that some people had told you it was wrong for you to accept gifts. It doesn’t seem to me you are asking anyone to do anything. To me, those gifts are proof of the kindness still left in our broken world! Shame on those who would begrudge either you, or the kind people who wanted to send you something to show their gratitude for the effort you put in to your videos. I bet you and your video’s provide people all over the world a little enjoyment in their day. I’ll be checking back in from time to time to see what you’re up to. The yellow squash, both long and round, make a delicious squash casserole. Slice squash, fry up onions & garlic first. Then parboil sliced squash, strain, add sour cream, bread crumbs, minced garlic, diced onion, two eggs and Parmesan cheese. Bake covered for 20 minutes then top with breadcrumbs and cheddar. Bake ten minutes more.. Yummy.

Add a bit of lemon juice to the water and the apples won't turn brown! just be careful not to add too much unless you want some really lemony apple tarts :P

You said apple tarts. I saw the picture and said, “fried apple pies!” Had to watch. My grandma in Tennessee used to always send us back home to Indiana with a huge mess of fried apple pies. I loved them. I think my grandma made hers with dried apples. I used to sit in the shade with her peeling and slicing the apples. Then we spread them on a screen and grandpa took them up to the attic, under the hot, tin roof. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories. Grandma used White Lily flower also. Up until I was 12 or 13 they had an outhouse and a well outside the door. I’m 64 now. They heated with a wood stove. They DID have electricity as far back as I can remember, but my aunt gave me one of grandma’s old oil lamps, which I treasure. Loved watching this all and hearing your stories. ❤️

Helen, your apple fried tarts sure remind me of my grandmother who used to send me to the back yard to pick apples for a pie or two. I would help her peel and listen to her tell me her recipe every time she made a pie. I would say I remember Meme...sarcastically. Now I wish she was still here to repeat her lessons.
