The two ultimate 1100cc Italian superbikes tested on the dyno. Part 1 of 3 (or maybe 4).
Both bikes are 100% stock/standard with the exception of cosmetic and non-powertrain related upgrades (tail tidy, tank grips, mirrors, etc)
The Akra exhaust on the Aprilia the catted homologation version and comes standard on the bike. It is different from the cat-less racing versions which would clearly make more power but would be illegal for road use.

@@michaelslorach4149 it does sound much better. The Ducati actually sounds more similar to the V2 Panigale. You can't beat the 65 degree mounted V4 sound that Aprilia uses. The Ducati is a 90 degree engine. And the way it fires means it won't sound as good.

Great upload. Manufacturers measure the bike hp at the crank on the Dyno you can lose between 12 - 14% hp but also wheel spin affects the reader. The best way is to put a slick on the rear. Cheers from London, UK.
@shivhappens9200
@shivhappens9200 5 лет назад
Vincent Saward the problem with running slicks on the dyno is their coefficient of friction will vary wildly in the temperature range it would see on the dyno. In fact, it would take a few pulls to get enough heat in them in order to keep them from slipping during the actual recorded full throttle dyno run. This would make it increasingly more difficult to keep engine temps in the target testing range. Also, towards the end of a long 6th gear pull, a slick would get quite tacky and result in excessive frictional losses which would skew the results. The OEM supercorsa tires are great for dyno tasting since they maintain a similar Cf in the test temp range. A good rule of thumb for dyno testing is to use the hardest and least sticky tire as possible without running into wheel spin issues. In this test, there were no wheel spin issues at all.

What the aprilia really needs is to get on par with the electronics, the hard rev limiter is just one example, but the entire aprc package still looks more like what we had back in 2011 than what ducati and BMW has now. That engine though, how can a 10 year old engine compete with state of the art now, it's just amazing.
@iTxip
@iTxip 5 лет назад
The amazing ting is the 1000cc RSV4 RF lapped Jerez almost a full second faster that the Ducati V4S, before the 1100cc update. Imagine with a slide control like the R1M, V4S, or '19 BMW because its the only weak spot it still has, you really have to be more progressive opening throttle than in those
@primedirective00
@primedirective00 5 лет назад
The Aprilia also has a sharp drop-off which means it's probably got a hard limit. I have a feeling they could lighten some of the internals now that the borexstroke has changed, wind out another 500 or so RPMs, and add a soft limiter to make it more usable in the real world. It would actually be really interesting to have control over this from the APRC controls... race vs street rev limiter tuning

Everyone says the new RSV41100 is faster than the new V4R but this is the real Shiza right here. I own a 18 RF and id love to say mine is faster but when I test rode both the RF and the V4S not R I was absolutely blown away by the manic speed of the Duc. In a blink i had that thing up to 180mph with absolutely no effort. I then took the RF out and got light up twice on the demo ride i had to evade two cops and the bike did that SOOOO well i came back and said THIS is my new baby! Yea its not nearly as fast but its so much more trackable. I know it will go right where i want and that run from the cops set the stage for a wonderful 8 months w/ it. Ive outrun countless cops got lots of tail from it and I feel like im riding a supermodel where ever i go. Its beyond righteous. I just might trade my RF in for this tho... Anyone want a tricked out 18 RF w/ 8k on it?

Can you please tell us what gear the shown dyno runs are done in? Seemingly the Ducati revs to peak HP much faster than the Aprilia. I've owned multiple RSV4s and can easily attest to the fact that it's the best dynamic bike on the track bar none, but I'm really impressed by that Ducati. It makes its horsepower so fast that I can't imagine it being anything but relentless at full throttle. I'd take a Ducati that gets to 200hp in 7 seconds over an RSV4 that gets to 208hp in 9.5 seconds anytime.

The comparison dyno graph shows 6th gear pulls from both bikes. The v4s is a beast in how flexible the engine is. The Aprilia is outrageous too but below 5000 rpm, it is noticeably softer. But once you drop a gear, it’s a rocket.

@@trevorbush3656 The race exhausts you mention for the Duc are not street legal since they do not have a catalyst. In fact, they can only be dealer installed on dedicated race bikes here in CA. What is the benefit of having the V4 use a twin pulse firing order? I’m not at all knowledgable with motorcycles, so when I heard about a V4, I was expecting a high pitched F1 sort of exhaust note.
@Sorry_ImTruthful
@Sorry_ImTruthful 5 лет назад
It’s for a smooth torque line & engine balance in the corners. Funny thing about it? Is that he talks about it without even mentioning the “twin pulse” when he brings up the dyno chart for the V4, and says how he loves the feel of the bike... I guess you just have to ride it to understand it.
@Mr6Sinner
@Mr6Sinner 5 лет назад
Sorryimtruthful I thought I read somewhere that the 90 degree v4 of the other firing order (idk what to call it) was inherently balanced.
@Sorry_ImTruthful
@Sorry_ImTruthful 5 лет назад
Uriah Siner it’s a 70 degree crank with a 90 degree cylinder bank. The order is 1,2..1,2 for both left & right cylinders. And they are so close together to the point of firing like the V2 (or L-twin) that had a amazing torque curve & engine balance. The V4 try’s to replicate that and keep that same V2 sound... then theirs also the “reverse crank” that also helps with balance, but it also takes away a little of the power from the bike, but that’s a whole different kind of tech to talk about? Lol 😆

@@MPI1000 it will still be the same aprilla will have more power than v4r ....the aprilla doesn't lose as much power thru drivetrain as Ducati since its torque and horsepower comes at different rpms and has less rpm to run ....both fully tuned and upgraded on same dyno will end up with rsv4 factory...having more power .....just Ducati is lighter than aprilla.......and I seen the v4r in person doing dyno runs and I've riden one as well it's a beast dont get me wrong its fast ....power kiks in tremendously the last 2 or 3 thousand rpm pulls but not with full force but will still catch speed ......I've seen aprilla on dyno just need to ride one and see what's the difference in power once in motion ....not much different...more like red apples to green apples ....cant wait till I test one out ....

25 cc would easily be worth 5 hp up top.

@Miran Kajtna A spur gear is 98-99% efficient, yes. That's 4 hp max to take away from its 5 hp (displacement) advantage, meaning it should still make more power (just). But it doesn't. It does have a stronger midrange though (also, again, because of that 2.9% displacement advantage).
@identiticrisis
@identiticrisis 5 лет назад
@Miran Kajtna if the Aprilia makes more power up top, then the Ducati doesn't make more power everywhere. Stick to the facts please. Ducati decided to use the extra cubes lower down, that's fine. What you find more useful is up to you. Which bike you find easier to ride fast mostly depends on you. That's the joy of all of this. And why we stick to the facts. I expect by "tuning potential" you mean pipe, filter and power commander? Actual race tuning is a different matter.

Should've tested with akra exhaust on v4s.

That wouldn't be a fair comparison. The Akra race exhaust and ECU upmap for the RSV4 1100 is not available yet. So I am comparing stock to stock (50 state legal) for now.

Did you say that 2-5 hp in the midrange is the difference between “shock and awe” and a “smooth” power delivery? Lol. Sir, the curves are nearly identical through most of the rev range - that comment is nonsense.
@shivhappens9200
@shivhappens9200 5 лет назад
Trevor Huisman Please look at the graph carefully. the Ducati has 10-15lb-ft advantage through in the low end and much of the midrange. That is very noticeable and significant.

Looks like Ducati Won this one... Its got a higher redline, so it can pull a lower gear to achieve higher effective torque... I think the Ducati will out accelerate the Aprilia in all but the highest gear... Now handling may be a different matter...

Yes that is true. But please read the video description. The Akra on the Aprilia comes standard and is not the race version (without catalyst). The Akra for the Ducati costs $5k extra and is not street legal (no catalyst).

V4S = 1.2hp/kg - .71Nm/kg , RSV4 = 1.2hp/kg - .69Nm/kg Hardly a beatdown more like a stalemate. Just because the RSV4 has a couple more horsepower & torques at the dyno the actual power to weight ratio slightly favors the Ducati. People place far too much importance on total power output, without considering the actual physics of the bike itself. Furthermore the V4S just looks better, the RSV4 looks like a Kawasaki from a few years ago only with a grey paint job. Ducati holds more cachet, and Aprilia never won MotoGP but did win a few World Superbike, which Ducati has also won a few of. Overall I find the Ducati more compelling, by a large margin. The sound is subjective, however with a razor slight edge I'll give that to the Aprilia. I'd still much rather the Ducati despite the Aprilia's insignificant edge on power output. The rest of the bike more than makes up for this nonissue. Faster around a track? You can't trust that, different riders get around a track differently, and exact times are not exactly repeatable. Crowning the Aprilia "King" would be premature at best anyway, as Ducati will always have an answer.
