I had the pleasure of talking with Freddie Spencer once and we were talking about street going Superbike. He said they had their pegs as rearward and high and the bars as forward & low only because "we have to for ground clearance and to tuck in, because it sucks after 15-20 minutes". He went on that "we'd rather the seating was more like a Nighthawk S", and " if you ride hard enough on the street like that because you need to you'll likely soon be dead". Great points. Doug

Yet to see a large comparison test of this bike with others of its kind yet. Looks and sounds great.

Engine maps are: S = Sport T = Track R = Race S is recommended for road use, T for road and racetrack, R is recommended only for the track. (Manual page 42). Just so you don't get this confused :-), R != Road, thou some would like the reduced engine braking in this mode.
@SteveC-Shaman
@SteveC-Shaman 8 лет назад
R like my RSV4 has very little engine braking. I don't find it bad on open roads but if you ride it that way in a city you will have to use the brakes - a lot. I use S most of the time on the street. Unlike the older V4 bikes, Aprilia got the engine maps right on these newer bikes.

+Steve C Are The difference so big between maps (modes?) that u switch or do u get lazy and just keep it in S most of The time? Thinking about upgrading to a Tuono next year.
@motomotog3688
@motomotog3688 8 лет назад
+FreemaN1338 differences are big. S has a lot of engine brake, T has less - in my opinion best for road use. R has almost no engine brake.
@SteveC-Shaman
@SteveC-Shaman 8 лет назад
I prefer S because it feels the most like a standard throttle cable and has good engine braking on the street. On track I prefer R because you can dive into corners without the rear changing your trajectory on its own. A few tracks would be better with T mode (like Laguna Seca's Rainey corner).

just add a raiser for the bar and it would help a lot for comfort.

Love these honest and informative reviews. With all that's changed in the last few generations of bikes makes be wonder what sort of bikes we will be riding in 10 years. I think 250 bhp will be the norm. can't wait. bring it on.

Haha, more hp isn't exactly better... If you want a powermonster you have to buy a Kawa Ninja H2 and unlock the beast... however I love the more straigh up seating position of this bike's review here, I always like supermotos and have owned 2 already, however the H2 is an awesome machine which my heart goes to as wel, just like the RSV4RF, it would be pretty hard to choose...
@garylowe8601
@garylowe8601 8 лет назад
Neel Beke nah I would go with the Honda RC213V-S if I had the choice of any bike. The H2R is an awesome bit if kit though

I know what you're getting at bud, and while I love the bike it's seating position is all Superbike. The reviewer even mentioned that the seating position is " borderline uncomfortable". Bummer ! Doug
@garylowe8601
@garylowe8601 8 лет назад
dobent4 I guess it depends on what you want from a bike. I have ridden bikes in the past and hated the riding position yet friends loved it. Riding position is a real personal thing but I agree it is a bit extreme.

Hey Visor down. Great vid, but Aprilia needs to lower the seat!!!! Come on Aprilia. I'm a short rider (162cm) and the seat height removes all confidence. I was on tender hooks at the lights & really had to judge approach & stopping with high concentration. More than usual. Tiptoe put downs are not what I'd recommend for any rider. You do on occasions need good foot to ground balance. Even if it's balls of feet its better than ballerina stance. The people at Aprilia could at least, follow what Ducati have done with their 2015 1200 Monster and provide an 'adjustable' seat. Apart from the seat I'd buy this in a heart beat. The Tuono is a beautifully constructed naked super-bike. The power is incredible, satisfying and very quick to arrive. I rode it around town (inner city & CBD traffic) and it was more than able to manage. Sure it isn't light but hey it is an 1100 so you can't expect a 600cc make-up. Having said that it wasn't a gym session weight workout either. The front & back breaks were without fault. I wouldn't want to jump on the front one's cause I can just see them launching the rider out of the seat & over the front bars. (worse case scenario but you get the drift). Suspension? Bloody brilliant. Handling? It was great and gave confidence, even if I was ridding around the inner city. The three power maps are "Death" - "Injury" - "Survival". I chose survival and it was more than enough to out-run cars sharing the road with me. So would I buy one? Due to the seat issue my answer after a few days thinking about it is no. The seat has put me off. If I did buy it, I'd have to fork out more money to have the seat shaved to get 1 to 1 1/2 inches back on the feat. For a bike like this & the money you pay upfront this issue alone is very disappointing for a short guy like me. A bloody great bike but Aprilia have let down short guys world over. Aprilia you stuffed up.

+Gabriel Johannson i believe that they already shortened the seat from 840mm to 825mm. and i think it's no problem with just 1 feet touching the ground. u would never got this bike to off road anyway.
@gabrieljohannson6777
@gabrieljohannson6777 8 лет назад
+Eagle Nguyen - thanks for the response. I ended up getting this bike & traded in my MT-07. It may be big jump when it comes to numbers on paper but its a great bike. You were dead on with the seat. They took 25.3mm off the seat & now I have 1 foot to ground depending on which way I lean the bike at stand still. No way this bike is going off road! The bike is fantastic...I'd go as far to say it's sublime. Great balance. Very easy to steer but totally planted front end. Effortless around the CBD. On the highway its a beast! On twisty roads it just devours them and makes me very very confident. Anyway, again thanks for the response and enjoy the next ride you go on. Respect to you Sir.

Jayden Valentine - thanks mate. It's a real peach. If you are considering getting one, I'd encourage you to do so. The dealer through in a shaved down seat to my measurement for free. The power is "ridiculous" but it is well managed. I did blow away a BMW-M3 and Porsche last week so I'm delirious. The power is awesome and the quick-shifter makes you a far better rider than you most probably are. The bike responds like a maniac with blood-lust in his/her eyes. It just gives you more power and more power as you progress through the gears. Torque it has in spades! I wish it had an auto-downshifter but I do think it is only a matter of time before that is standard on all Super Naked & Super Sport bikes. No big deal on that mate and to be honest I think using the gear leaver keeps you switched on to your capabilities. Absolutely no twitchy throttle like previous models (on what I've heard on RU-vid vlogers or reviews). Fueling is managed well with the ride by wire. At the price you'd have to expect that & it delivers without cause. No issues with stalling and heat off the engine is negligible. On that point (heat off the engine) it doesn't suffer like the BMW 1000RR or s1000r. It is winter here in Sydney so i'm not finding heat an issue.(Mind you Sydney winter isn't North American by comparison...if you are in the USA our winter is 16-19 degrees = 60-68 Fahrenheit for you). I think the concerns on stalling, false neutrals, fueling, throttle responsiveness and general reliability are often assumed with Italian motorbikes. To be fair, many (like Ducati) did have these issue but since 1990 through to today they have progressed leaps & bounds. Yes, the Aprilia Tuono of 2013/2014 did have throttle issues but these are non existent today. Reliability? It isn't an issue for me. Around the CBD traffic it manages well. As with any bike, if you ride it aggressively you will notice the fuel consumption. It doesn't have a fuel gauge but I've taken notice of the warning light. But if you want fuel economy....get a CBR250. If you know what I mean. ;) I have not bothered with wheelie control because the Aprilia Wheelie Control (AWC.....ingenious acronym I know) is for those riders who already know how to execute a wheelie. I don't so I've not needed it. Now, I have found that if you do reef the throttle the front end does leave the ground but it is in now way a vertical jump to the stars. Again the settings have been set to standard so if I do play with them I assume this will be limited further. I'm no GP skilled rider so a little front wheel off the road isn't too troublesome. I had an MT-07 before hand and the jump-up in class & power had me saying "Sweet Mary & Joseph" on a few occasions. The breaks are awesome. The way it plants to the road is nothing short of miraculous. The front end is very inspiring and provides the rider confidence in spades. Have not tried out all the settings or adjustments just yet. I'm still adjusting. Its a fantastic bike & worth every penny. The note from the stock exhaust is nothing short of amazing. If you are wanting to buy one I'd recommend the 2016 TuonoRR without hesitation. PS: i have test ridden the BMW s1000r. That is a clinical bike. A lot of bang for buck but the insurance was stupid. I don't know why or how the Aprilia was cheaper but that is was significant. The other thing is that the s1000r are a dime-a-dozen. The Aprilia is awesome and gives you smiles all day every day. Go do it mate you won't regret it at all. Respect to you Jayden & may you always ride well.

Absolutely not. Words cannot describe the stupidity of doing so. No-No-No. Look at one of Hondas 500s, a CBR 250/300, a Ninja250 /300/500, KTM or Yamaha 300, but for God's sake, no Superbike. under 25 ? You'd shell out 5 grand + on insurance. Go to a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class, period. Then find, if you're into sport bikes one of those listed above or similar, they're great bikes with good and rapid resale. No, any 600 sport bike won't be anything but a dumb choice either. Listen.Learn. Doug

You're a smart young man with a good head on your shoulders. Those bikes are all great machines for a new rider to get started on. Also, if you're really going to get into this, check out a California Superbike school or similar. Seriously, a rider who does and really applies themselves could get on your CBR300 or similar could get on that and on a road course could smoke an inexperienced , uneducated in the art "Johnny extreme" types around that course who's riding a 1000cc Superbike. I've seen it done. Ratings a a blast, and so much safer than riding over ones head on the street. Who knows, maybe when ready for a bigger bike you can keep your 300 for a racer :). Good luck bud. Doug

What do you mean by twitchy? All bikes are twitchy so how is a bit twitchy, 121Nm of torque or the 175BHP because I think this is a perfect combo, but that's my opinion.
