Kay, all of my aquatic apparel is from H2OWear h2owear.tinyc.co/chloroguard-gloves Here you'll find water shoes; they provide foot support like a regular tennis should but allow water to pass through so they do not become weighted.
Thanks for following along! Yes, I agree foot strengthening is a must for total body function. For some people footwear is a must in and around the pool area for safety and foot protection. When possible doing yoga in the pool barefoot is an excellent way to improve foot mobility and strength.
Great question! The key to best results is variability. Try 1-minute of each exercise. You can increase or decrease the length for variety (i.e. 30-seconds or 90 seconds). This will help you improve mobility, strength and endurance.
Wearing aquatic shoes have many benefits including: reduce joint impact (more important for higher impact exercise or if you have joint pain); easier to change from one move to the next; foot protection in/out of the pool. I hope that helps.
Does moving the arm behind you and forcing the water forward (as shown in the warrior one and two sequence) put a lot of stress on the rotator cuff? If so, what are some modifications?
Thanks for your great question. Always move in a pain free range of motion. To help reduce stress on the joint, submerge the shoulder under water during movement. If movement in any direction hurts, make the move smaller or in a different direction finding a range that feels good. To help strengthen the rotator cuff muscles movement in all 6 directions is key (font to back, side to side, rotation right and left). It is also great to move the arm on diagonals 'draw an X pattern under water'.
Thanks for viewing! Water shoes are optional but recommended. For gentle water exercise you need a simple slip on shoe that provides some traction. If you are doing higher intensity exercise a shoe designed for water exercise is preferred. Although reduced, there is still impact on the joints in water. Ryka is the brand I recommend.
