Aquatic Animals of the Paleozoic Era. Size comparison and data. Paleoart

The very diverse and strange aquatic animals of the Paleozoic Era ( 500-201 million years ago). This was the time of development of all animal forms. Very diverse and experimental life forms originated from the Cambrian Explosion, evolving throughout the Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and ended in a massive extinction at the end of the Permian, right before the time of Dinosaurs.

Somebody really needs to make some kind of game about these magnificent creatures, like a subnautica game, now Jaekolopterus would have no intention in attacking a human as we’re a bit too big and it would probably see us as not worth the risk

Well, Earth of the Paleozoic Era in itself is almost a completely different planet, so you're not wrong here. Also, great idea, I would love to see a game in this setting too, reminds me of that short old documentary series in three parts (it was called "Swimming with Sea Monsters" or smth like that iirc, it was one of the many great "Walking with Dinosaurs" spinoffs) about the oceans of different time periods of the Earth and it's flora and fauna starring Nigel Marvin, imagine if somebody made a game based on it, that would be so sick

Thank you SO MUCH for including Pikaia on your list. No disrespect to the Walking With series, but I feel that thanks to that series, Pikaia has become kind of overshadowed by early vertebrates like Haikuicthys. The truth is that it was PIKAIA that started it all. Before the backbone developed, there was a prototype version known as a notochord, and it was Pikaia that was the first creature to have a notochord.

I like the fact that Paleozoic wildlife can mostly be summed up with, "Dafuq is THAT?!" It was one of those times evolution was just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what stuck.

I'm so glad that you included some obscure species (Sibyrhynchus, Anglaspis, etc.) in this video. I'm always appreciative of people who make art of overlooked paleofauna. There are so many unique and amazing prehistoric creatures that never receive any attention, but it's thanks to artists like you that the limelight is spread to more animals than just the dinosaurs. My greatest compliments go to you, Mario. Please don't ever stop making these videos. 😀

Theres a few interesting and unique and bizarre groups of animals I've only learnt about in recent years, these include many of the land crocs, many weird and wonderful extinct mammals, Triassic oddities and the Bathornithids. Tbh I'm surprised I missed a lot of these like Barianasuchus and Paracrax given their size and notariety. But one other group is the Thylacocephala, or as I view them - space ship crabs. They're just a really, really bizarre form of life, and I'd love to see them in a documentary someday because they're so unique and there really is nothing like them alive today.
