Amazing. Sometimes if I feel sad or tired or just want to see something beautiful, I look at the AR3 Robot Assembly Manual.

AR4 , another suggestion to reduce cost and complexity. Instead of two boards for controlling motors and I/O , it can be done with just one board like adafruit Grand Central which is a 32 bit SAMD51 running at 120 MHz with FPU. It's got plenty of horsepower to run the motors and plenty of I/O provided it uses trinamic drivers sensorless technology. Doing away with encoders and limit switches can free up a lots of pins and also reduce cost, wiring complexity. I appreciate your great work, it's just my opinion. Thank you and keep up the great work

Thank you, I will definitely look into the Grand Central board. Looks like a nice board, a couple reasons I went with the teensy was that all its pins are 5v tolerant since most devices including the encoders are 5v and all teensy pins are capable of interupt for the 12 signals needed for the encoders. I left the Mega due to most devices being 5v and thought it would be nice to have a 5v board in the architecture. plus the teensy was running low on pins after running all the motors and encoders.

@@anninrobotics stm32f4 discovery board probably a better option and arduino-ide compatible. Cheaper and faster than the adafruit board.

hi i have a feature suggestion. instead of incorrectly calibrating the robot to test if the limit switches work you could include a limit switch test program/mode. for ui have a box for each limit twitch that turns from red to green when its cooresponding limit switch has been pressed. just press each limit switch in order and check that each box lights up in the same order.

Chris, congratulations! The AR3 looks amazing!!! The encoders and the Teensy are a nice touch!! What would it entail to upgrade my AR2 (cost, components, time)?? Have you thought through the process of an upgrade??
@anninrobotics
@anninrobotics 4 года назад
Hello, you would need to upgrade to the dual shaft motors and get a teensy 3.5 board as well as the encoders. Im not sure on the exact cost but honestly if you already have the AR2 built and want to upgrade it I would probably just follow the manual and upgrade to all the latest print files and the wiring harness as it wouldnt cost very much money to do that. I have a few notes in the manual on what you would do to update to the AR3

Chris - is the AR2.exe software compatible with the AR3 robot? I ask because i dont use the newer versions of Windows (worst software on the planet!) and its not allowing me to open the executable?

I´ve been looking for the specific measure of the aluminium parts, but I cant find them anywhere, where are they? Thank yo!

The 3d printable parts are the same as the machined aluminum parts. You can dimension them with any 3d cad software.

hi, chris great job, will the encoder auto correct the position if there is slight loss in steps during program run like a servo , i used to face loss in steps during operations in current ar2. and have to stop it and calibrate.
@anninrobotics
@anninrobotics 4 года назад
Thank you. I have not had any issues losing steps unless I try to overclock the speed in the Arduino program or run a single joint too fast. The encoders do constantly monitor the position and throw an alarm when they go out. If you lose steps on the AR2 I would like to know more and make sure its not an issue. If you would like shoot me an email on the details and we can review.

is the 4lbs weight limit due to the size of the stepper motor or the aluminum frame limitation? thanks for the videos. I am very interested building a AR3
@anninrobotics
@anninrobotics 4 года назад
It's due to the torque limit on the stepper motors.
@xz86

Since this is a closed loop system now, will we see motion recording by moving the robot arm in near future? That would be amazing function.

Hey Chris! I'm currently printing the AR2 Model. Do you think i should continue the AR2 or should i build the AR3 ?
@anninrobotics
@anninrobotics 4 года назад
The structural components are the same, it would probably be good to use the new covers and spacers and follow the wiring for the AR3, let me know if any questions.
