#welding #excavator #repair Rockmount sent me these Electra AAA Arc gouging rods. I had never heard of a airless arc gouging rod until I sat down with Jason from Arc Junkies. So today where going to find out if these things can hold there own compared to carbon arc gouging rods!
Here’s the link to Rockmounts Electra AAA-

I love how no matter how many times we touch hot ass metal and burn the shit out of ourselves, we still don’t learn! Us welders are a real intelligent bunch. Love your content man, keep up the good quality work!!

As someone with no gouging experience, I like the idea of starting with something as simple as just those rods, without the extra equipment/overhead

Looks to me like a 1010 or something like that . I really love the huge plumes of sparks because then your customer knows you are working. I did work for a company where the owner used to watch everyone on the security cameras so whenever I had a chance I would use arc gouging, and The boss was always telling me what great work I was doing. I was but I did the displays for the man as well.

Back in 1979 when I was in Welding school, had some cutting of welds to do on a side gig. Being 18, I didn’t have an Oxy/acetylene rig, just an AC/DC Lincoln 225 tombstone. My instructor, JIM GREER gave me a couple pounds of 1/8” chamfer rod. Had to run it hot, but had no problem pushing out the old welds. Kind of down and dirty, but worked. Remember that rod being dark gray to almost black. Watched your video, Anthony, and it brought me right back to that time. Love your REAL content! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The other thing to consider is that the Electra rods don’t blow the sparks that far out as an air carbon would. That is better when working in tight spaces or even in spaces where you have to work with others crews around you. Hell of a nice product man

11:32, the preferred polarity for carbon is Straight, or Electrode Negative. As soon as weld at the leading edge of the workpiece is cut away, drive in chisels/wedges to "peel" the discard piece as cutting progresses. The nuisance "hangers" will be easy to spot.

Your Boyee from North Port Florida says, those EN gouging rods would be fine for some over head and vertical down, but horizontal stuff is where the Air Arc shines.

Scarfing is kinda fun! But when you're trying to take out an old weld, in something that needs to be left perfect, it can quickly become a nightmare. Same goes for gouging with a plasma. Some people love it, i hate it! I feel that you become so limited on how and what you can actually gouge. Nothing beats Carbon Arc gouging. Ive never tried the airless stuff. Looking forward to watching your whole video here

Man I wish you were close to me I’d definitely love to show you a few tricks that would definitely change your torch gouging game and if fou ever get the chance to run 3/8 or bigger air arc rod you will have a different outlook on gouging they don’t load up with carbon and is super clean! Keep up the good work

All I would say is 6013s ran very hot will do the same gouging! Ask any old school fabricator or welder and they'll confirm. You can actually see this being down on the many Pakistan Truck type channels on YT. Great to see you using a mask👍 - Welders and fabricators lives are shorter than most others for a reason, and with Inner Shield(AKA Inner Death) becoming more prevalent for on site jobbing work, then things will only get worse for folks.

WIA use to have a C/G rod which stands for cutting and gouging but since they got brought out they stopped making them as well as nearly 80% of there products that said they were amazing to use I’ve seen my old man run out of oxy while cutting 1” plate so he just whipped out the C/G’s and kept on cutting. The local Enginering shop in its hay day would do truck chassis mods by cutting with c/g’s. FYI when cutting you would hold the rod near vertical and would move up and down like a sawing action through the plate

Looking at my AC machine. Oh well! I could just use air gouching or turn up the amps. However, I believe that a big enough charge can overload anything that's DC only. I've seen 6010 run on AC and that TIG machine was able to produce a big enough charge to surpass its limits.

Convenient for welders and mechanics that don’t carry an air compressor or torch tanks. But after working with a gouger every day for 6 years on a production job, fixing people’s ef ups along with robots. Think I’d stick with the ol carbon arc. It’s really fast and very clean ( in the right hands of course ).

I welded for the first time with my father in law and his buddies last week, stick and tig. I have literally 2 hours of experience, but my welds were apparently better than people they've seen doing it for 2 years. Now it's like people are trying to knock down my door to hire me to weld. Ironically, I need to weld a new motor mount to my Vespa motorcycle to jump it up about 100cc more power than it has now in order to make the commute to whichever one I choose. Hopefully it goes well. $20/hr is a hell of a lot better than my current $12/hr
