This brings back major memories. I remember being a kid watching people play this on an SNK cabinet with Aero Fighters II and King of Fighters? II. Good times.
This is my favorite Samurai Shodown. Though the later games added more strategy and technique, and were better balanced for the most part, the gameplay felt soft and syrupy in comparison to this game. SSII also has the greatest Engrish of all time!
Samurai Showdown II really is an awesome game, it really improves on the characters, and furthermore some of those stages has incredible music. Charlotte's theme is this I think better than I, for it sounds more aggressive while remaining noble, but Cham-Cham's theme is awesome, it's like samba with middle eastern elements, it's very catchy, Furthermore, for anyone who plays the drums, her theme would make for an excellent drums cover.
Anyone else notice how Genjuro almost never shows both sides of his face? In all of his poses, the other half of his face is either hidden behind his arm or turned away from the screen.
Exactly, super easy indeed. The CPU rarely attacks. Good choice though. Genjuro is one of my favorites. Ukyo, Kyoshiro, Sieger and Wan-fu are the others. :)
One of the few post-Street Fighter 2 "tournament fighting" games I liked, and probably my favorite...if only because it was the only one I was good at. I couldn't stand the "secret" moves and especially the combo memorization of other games in this genre. But Ukyo Tachibana had terrific range and allowed me to play a tournament fighter the way I wanted: just basic attacks, no special moves, not even the POW. I got so good I could beat the game (Level 4) without continuing every time I played.
Fun fact: Reiko Chiba, the voice of Cham Cham has played Mei,PteraRanger in the Super Sentai series that gave birth to Mighy Morphin Power Rangers: Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.
Hol up. During the character showcase in the credits, one of the background ninjas shows up and acts like one of the fighters. Complimenting this with the occasional times he pops out and says something random, is it possible that you're able to fight him as a secret boss, or unlockable as a secret character?
IMO this series was so much more badass than street fighter...although I never really got wtf was going on in the story cutscenes lol. Great graphics, music, characters, and unique gameplay at a time when every game tried to be street fighter...also didn't hold back with showing people getting killed
If only this game had Tam Tam:the only character from SS1 who isn't playable here, This really could have been that Definitive Samurai Shodown. I also perfer the previous narrator over this one, but that's just me.
So did you select Genjuro so he could back at Haohmaru for using him as a slashing bag during the initial tutorial? Just kidding ;) Great longplay as usual.
I have this game with the original arcade cabinet at work. The only thing wrong with it is the screen. Kinda discolored, but other than that, it's fine. Don't usually get past the 1st stage, tho, when I play it.
hi david curry please i want to know if you speak japanese or understand it when listening ? i see your comment in romaji and wonder... cause if it the case i have a question for you about samurai 2 . thank you.
It almost looks like the computer is set to SUPER EASY and player 1 has the handicap to the max. If I were playing Genjiro vs. Ukyo, 'twould be a much different outcome indeed.
What have we learn so far. In the end even the strongest man has a soft spot for a... ...I think it was a frog... Samurai Shodown Sen however... IS A EVIL, EVIL GAME.!!! >:-(
@IceChateau777 This is true. There are always people looking for an opportunity to brag or at least trash the uploader. There may be some fighting game elitism in this case, but I think it's just as likely that some of these people have never played SSII.
good hyper street fighter is different from SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO. but that is the maximum level of that hyper street fighter xq is very different levels. .......... especially to be the perfect akuma xq doubt the hardest level 8 super street fighter impocible perfect to give him Akuma. quisas in this version is weaker than in the super street fighter 2 ,.............. in order for because the need to curse ...??? uneducated?
@FMagl Some examples include that kyo user, and I see those comments on just about every game playthrough. Those comments blow my top, for it might hurt beginners and eventually scare them. They just don't understand how the game is played. If they do, they should shut up and enjoy the playthrough.
LOL cute little froggy hops tords teh winner winner says Im gonna kill you now and poor widdle froggy hops away and then he says fine have it your way and teh cute widdle frog hops to follow him =P
This game was at tro arcades near me, one was L4 and had very few people that would challenge you. The other was L2 and had a lot of people playing- the L4 one was certainly great training!
Utterly zen moments in this game. Street Fighter is frantic, struggling karate and wrestling. Samurai is more zen and decisive with deadly weapons. If the weapon or sword makes direct contact, the fight is nearly over. Hanzo is way cooler than Ibuki btw lol... awesome illusion ninjutsu.
