Watching this explains the game's original title: Tatsujin roughly translates to "expert/master". And you certainly have to be one to beat this without even dying.
You have to be one to beat this game, which basically means one-lifing it all the way or lose to their criminal checkpoint system that is borderline scam even for a coin sink.
@@Okazu84If you stay one power up below the max and keep 4Ps, not only is the difficulty managable, but recovery is easy too. That's how I did it and it's not that hard. 🙂
@@pinballwiz45b congrats mate. Respect. I cannot continue playing after loosing my first life (since respawns set you back a few screens and you lose all your precious powerups). Typical "one-credit or nothing" kind of schmup imho but to each his own. Pristine ships are pretty much useless past a certain point.
In the 90s i had a friend that played like you and stayed in the game for hours with one coin. The owner of the arcade had to unplugged and plug the machine in order to let other persons play. I saw it.
now THATS nostalgic, i did this similar feat when the game was still in the arcades all those years ago 89!, great memories and a lasting achievement for me too, 1 ship no bombs, grats fellow gamer
Correct, he is using an invulnerability cheat. You can see it in a few places but most noticeably at 14:12, a bullet passes squarely through the ship. You can see it if you frame-by-frame.
You cannot beat the arcade, it was the best of them all. Bought this to my Mega Drive back then and it was good but still a huge disappointment compared to arcade. In Mega Drive version bombs were bigger and they always exploded in the middle of the screen (in arcade explosion was at your ship) and you could collect P-letters to spare and continue with full powerups after death. Managed only once to finish arcade without deaths but without bombs... never! 2up was only available if you got to halfway without deaths. First area music still gives me the chills, it is so great. In Mega Drive there was some sort of story after you defeated the last boss and game was completed after five rounds. I wonder if that existed in arcade? Great gameplay, great memories! A shitload of coins spent to this game in 90´s.
Tatsujin is legendary with Spectacular graphics and gameplay A classic arcade game from taito This is 2Fast 2Furious and ABSOLUTELY entertaining 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Arcade version is the best. Are you using rapid fire? You got it on invincibility mode. Lol. I saw many times on bosses that their attacks on you went strait thru you. Lol
I remember using the one bom trick to defead Bosses in this game for Mega Drive. Use bomb, when it exploded, pause the game for 3 seconds. Resume the game and see the boss die with one shot lol
Attempting to destroy the 3rd boss without Skull Bombs on the Sega Genesis version is extremely difficult. Since the screen is squared, the boss descends closer to you as it fills the area, leaving little room for the player to react and maneuver.
This is most likely savestate spamming. The game is clearly designed around bombs and no real 1cc attempt takes the risk of not bombing; bombs are also replenished very frequently.
yet another great play by Lord SCHLAUCHI! ah, good ol' Tatsujin (its Nippon name), so many memories...and yet, believe it or not, I very much prefer its MD/Genesis conversion, mostly for the reworked (& in my opinion better) soundtrack; same with Hellfire & my personal fave ToaPlan home conversion, Kyokushi Tiger, AKA Twin Cobra! it's like ToaPlan BGMs just sound better on The SEGA 16BIT Engine That Could!
I used to watch my older brother play this (he got pocket money I didn't), music and presentation is a step above other games of the time. Game is much harder with manual fire. I got into it myself on MAME 15 or 20 years ago (that long?) but found it slightly too hard to be bothered memorising the firing and movement patterns of all the bosses. If MAME has savestates it could be worth trying to finish. Twin Cobra might be a close cousin of this game.
yeah I agree.. /I got the pandoras box 7 and it has over 2000 of these retro games on it, so Ive been watching the youtube videos of the games to pick up ideas and gameplay styles to get a bit better at the games... Twin cobra used to be my all time favourite.
@@TheNomad2727 I think I gravitated more towards Twin Cobra (which also has good music) as it's a little more forgiving and doesn't require as much memorisation and perfect timing.
@@android584 haha, yeah the music was what suprised me most as when I got the pandoras box a few weeks back, the first game I looked for and I played was twin cobra and the tunes came flooding back and I was able to hum along to the first few stages even after all these years! And I still remembered to AVOID THE YELLOW power ups.
I remember pulling my hair out over this game but eventually succeeded, only for it to carry on from the start at a more difficult level. I put the joypad down and never went back.
But I’m disappointed he didn’t play the game seriously straight to the finish. He killed it. So it isn’t worth it. He could have made a better score had he played more thoroughly.
i'm 1981 year born, and i have the fortune to play this game into arcade cabinet. One of my preferred game of the time because is possibile to finish (last boss, the arcade never ending probably) with one coin with skill and luck (i only did 2 times). Remember that sometimes i was playing with another guys because was so fucking fast to fire (i move the ship). For me the best mode to finish was to use only 5P (if you remain at that level the enemy shooting was little slower than 10P) and 4 speed (with 5 speed was more difficult to maintain control)
This makes me wanna get another Genesis!! This was one of my FAAAAAAAvorite games on Genesis! It was pretty underrate dto me, but cool nonetheless! I played this game constantly, and finished almost evertime I played it! Ahh...such memories!
you know what'd be hot? if you & SCHLAUCHI could somehow get together to play Tatsujin/Truxton 2. just imagine: 2 of Team Cubex's greatest contributors tackling such a classic. that or you, him, Tsunao & johnX895 tackling THE greatest game Data East ever made: ThunderZone AKA Desert Assault! I've already requested it on the main website...and are still waitring for it, along with CannonDancer!)
BOY ! How I hate those little red ships similar to the first thing that you shoot at the very beginning of the game !!!!! Small but very devastating, specially in the 2nd and 3rd stages. They suddenly swarm in from out of nowhere and they just pop up at the most critical point in the game trying to ruin everything. Just as you are starting to get the better of the game ! And worse, shooting even a school of them down only scores a tiny fraction in points !! THE LITTLE BITCHES !!!!!!!
Your comments made be laugh because it's so true. They're sneaky little mofo's, it took me ages to figure out a strategy for dealing with them when they swarm the screen from the bottom while you're busy dealing with enemies in front of your ship.
@@waffle_burger8499 I figured out my strategy is just to keep playing patiently the game over and over and eventually when you get the hang of it , you'll remember where & when those little ships will appear and anticipate in advance. It just comes naturally through repetition. After a while of patience and determination i now have a high score of 9,225,410 . That's about 4 1/2 hours continuous playing. My technique is just practice, practice, practice. And before you know, you're already looping the game. Actually it isn't as hard as it looks. Just NEVER GIVE UP under any circumstances.
@@hyperboytkl1077 Yeh that's a hell solid score, I play it on Android now but I remember growing up on the 80's and 90's this game was popular, but I was never that great at it lol.
