I played the heck out of the SMS version. I did not know this was on the NES until not long ago. I def need an SMS v NES lol! Winner: SMS in my heart Other Winner: Arcade I am glad you have the energy to do more of these man! lol! Good stuff!
I actually think this is one of the few where the NES beats out the SMS port, not to say that the SMS port is bad by any means. It's a great game no matter the platform. Haha the SMS vs NES video of this game is somewhere in that 9 hour video. Thanks buddy, I'm still gonna try powering through these but at some point I may take a week or two off.
Hmm...I don't think I realized Alien Syndrome got a port to the NES. I watched your arcade vs SMS comparison video of the game first, so I'm kind of surprised but this version seems like a better port. Of course, the arcade is still the winner, but this does seem to hold up better with actual scrolling too. Interesting one.
This is a rare case of Nintendo beating Sega at their own game..literally. That doesn't happen often though I'm curious to see what you think when it comes to Altered Beast because while the SMS version looks infinitely better I find the NES version to be way more playable.
Yeah that was a shocker for me the first time I played both ports back to back. It would be like if Columns on the Super Famicom was better than any other Sega version.
I dunno... NES version doesn't look even half bad or anything, but there's totally atmosphere missing, be it 'cause of the 8 bit sound or the color pallet. Btw, I've actually completed the arcade original (with state saves, of course, 'cause I'm not a maniac, hehe) and the game is really good albeit kinda unreasonably (for players) hard, especially the fact that you actually need to complete it in a curtein time span (that was the sol reason I've used state saves, btw). We had not too much of horror games back then, right?..)) P.S. Oh, I've got an idea, and if you'll like it it's yours)) The idea is a comparison of multiple of the versions of the game called "Shiryou Sensen: War of the Dead" and/or it's sequel for the Halloween upload^^ That would be great.
The color palette is totally lacking for both the 8 bit versions but they both play really well thankfully. Holy crap! I've never been able to beat this game so I'm super impressed. I've never gotten past the 3rd level in any version. I'd never heard of Shiryou Sensen: War Of The Dead until reading your comment but damn that looks fun! I just watched some gameplay and it reminds me of a cross between an Alien game and Splatterhouse. I still don't have my TG-16 up and running with RGB output and an Everdrive so I may have to wait on this (or anything else from that console) but I may try it out in the meantime on an emulator. Thanks for bringing that game to my attention. I love horror-themed games especially from that era.
@@RetroComparisons oh, I though you're using emulators for your videos. If it's not the case then my idea is kinda crappy considerring how those two games (War of The Dead and it's sequel) were relased, i.e. mostly japanese only and also mistly on home computers like PC-88 and MSX.
@@oldfan4049 Ah I see. Well I do use emulators for some stuff, basically everything up through the NES as well as handhelds and arcades. With the exception of weird consoles like the Amstrad GX4000 I use real hardware for everything starting with the SMS though if I did old computer stuff I'd also use an emulator.
