Arcade1Up The Fast and the Furious Is It Really That Bad? Arcade1Up's newest racing cab is here and the first in the riserless deluxe line of cabinets. While some people are excited for the first new ip of the year others were hesitant as rumors persisted that there were issues with the cab such as only 1 game instead of 2, not actual arcade rom and a downgraded port and issues with the link technology. Now that reviews are out and we have actual customer experiences, lets see if the Fast and the Furious Arcade1Up Is Really That Bad

I’ve bought 7 cabinets out of pure nostalgia and have created a nice arcade room, but I can’t fathom paying these prices anymore for the quality we receive. Since we can’t get arcade quality components maybe give us actual plywood rather than MDF. This would go a long way to providing more quality to these ridiculous prices now.

It really is "THAT BAD". The dishonesty being displayed by Arcade1up is just astonishing, and shocking. I will buy the Pac Man Deluxe, and then I think that'll be my collection, done, and dusted. I'm furious with A1up over what I've just seen. I really think A1up should've worked on a Pole Position 1, and 2 cab, as well as updating the Outrun cab. You're right. A1up needs to stick to working with the vintage, 80s genre of games. There are thousands of them to pick from. Thanks for covering this.

@@sls78.. Mostly, a re-release, but fixes to certain problems it had on release is really all it needed. But F&F needs to be cancelled, and held until better processors can be had to run that game in much better quality.

I own the game and I can honestly say the graphics are not as bad as you make them out to be. I think the video you used to review a side by side comparison is not accurate of how it looks in real life. It's not an exact replication of game from the arcade but is a really fun game to play and delivers the same feel as the original. There is also a nice rumble on the steering wheel that adds to the game experience. Overall I am happy with the purchase and can say it's one of my favorites. How do you review a cabinet based on other people's biased reviews? Find a way to buy or borrow the cabinet and then give a proper review.

Thanks man, this is exactly the feedback I was looking for. Most people who bought the game don't seem to care about the issues that I brought up in the video and are just enjoying it. I appreciate the feedback but I don't consider this a review but if that is your opinion you are entitled to it. As for the side by side footage you will have to ask 19K Fox about that

Hi Travis, can you find out what PCB is in this cabinet, I think its a fair question to ask A1up, if its at an RK3399 level then I can understand they did the best the could with a widely available chip thats decently powerful.

My personal opinion is that I don’t think it makes sense to compare it to the arcade, it’s the “Arcade1up port,” by RAW thrills (overseen by Eugene J.). A clear statement of what they did explains everything. There is a short segment where you can see my daughter playing the coin-op and it’s very clear that it runs at 60fps & has better graphics. Do the hardware limitations suck? Yes. I agree that the marketing was very misleading, and wrong in the way they advertised it. I haven’t had a single issue playing linked on WiFi (and my router is far from my cabs). To be completely honest, without the difference in car selection (between the two games), DRIFT gameplay is way more satisfying IMHO. I just can’t take these things seriously anymore. If people care that much they shouldn’t continue to support the company, and by now - be setting their expectations low. Is this version of the game fun? Absolutely. I’ve played over 120 games so far. Can’t fake that. Is what it is at this point. Either people love it, hate it, or love to hate it. The simple alternative is to buy a Multicade racing cab and play the improperly emulated teknoparrot version, or buy a Multicade and stop buying 1U’s. OR, buy the originals. Just my personal train of thought on the issues.

@@mikeyyoon The fact of the matter is that I wasn't given guidelines. They didn't say "we want you to compare it to the arcade." They asked me to review it knowing I had the coin-op, period. While I do understand and respect that some people would've liked to see more of a comparison; to me, like I said, it seemed like a waste of time. All the differences were well-known & pointed out as well as stated in my description. With that being said, I bought the second cab - paid out of pocket w/no discount, to test link play myself. You can call it an "enhanced experience," but the replay value and gameplay are held within the game itself. For example, as a child I played Cruis'n USA on N64 for hours by myself. And I've also played this one for hours, by myself, since getting it. $650 is a steep price for some, but maybe for those who feel it is - they shouldn't be investing, or even looking at something they consider lack-luster if they don't have the disposable income to buy it. I don't think collecting Arcade1up's or even real arcades is a financially lucrative hobby, unless you plan to restore and resell coin-ops (which takes specific experience and multiple skillsets)... I'd like to see someone do a price and production breakdown comparison where they show how to build a perfect replica FNF cab from scratch for $650 in todays economy. A rebuilt FNF PC alone is $350 (without the $200-$300 security dongle which is required to actually run the game). Food for thought.

@@mikeyyoon I appreciate that, and yes - I 100% agree marketing screwed everyone on this release, and it's unsat. That's ONE of A1U's biggest issues, but I think everyone in this space is becoming VERY aware of it by now, or at least I would hope so... lol Whether they will wise up and change is TBD, all we can do in this space is our best to lay out the facts and separate them from our opinions on takes. And if one doesn't like what they produce, don't support or buy IMHO.

I was really looking forward to this release, but the dumbed down graphics and poor draw distance is a deal breaker. I think it would still be fun for the family, but I’m not sure I could get over the huge concessions made. I love the Outrun and Ridge racer cabs. They play brilliantly, and are arcade accurate. I find it unsettling that so many changes were made to the original game. The link feature looks like a lot of fun though, and this is exciting for future releases.

F&F deserves a bad review and not sure why some reviewers didn’t compare it to the arcade since it was advertised that way. “2 Classic Arcade Games “ also 1up was never transparent with this cabinet. When the console version of X-Men vs SF came out for the PS1 it got bad reviews. Frames were missing you couldn’t tag in and out etc. Saturn version got good reviews as it was a good arcade port. The PS1 version was still fun to play but it still deserves a bad review the ps1 wasn’t strong enough to do Capcom 2D fighting games. Same goes with Arcade1up just because the chip is not strong enough you can’t give them a pass. Do a fair review and tell it what it is. If I go to a nice restaurant and I got stoufers microwave food, guess what? That restaurant deserves a bad review even if I like stoufers. If we got Ms Pac-Man the nes rom instead of the arcade rom it deserves a bad review even though the nes rom is fun. 1up did false advertisement a prerecorded live stream about F&F and it really was drift with 1 game. Fun game is not acceptable from a video review point perspective. This release was a joke and worst than blitz, mvc2 etc

One of the worst problems in my opinion (since I bought 2 of them) is that the advertised linked play doesn’t even work all the time. I even have two usb to Ethernet adapters, both plugged into a dedicated router and I can’t get them to work consistently. Arcade1Up support hasn’t done anything to help either for the past 2 weeks. I don’t believe that this is an isolated issue either as others have posted linked play issues.

I have the cab and enjoy it. My biggest issue is Drift being split into 2 games. More so because I have to switch to "another game" if the stage I want to play isn't on it. That is stupid. I personally would have been ok with it just being a Drift cab since Drift was just an update/expansion to the original. Besides that, I can't say I regret my purchase.

Great vid! I would get it if it goes on sale. I want XL cabs so that is the main reason why I have chosen not to buy any A1U's. I really want an XL of Class of 81 along with other cabs but just in the bigger form factor. With A1U not doing many XL or Pro cabs I guess they are saving me some money😊

Great Video. Shelions review is BAD in my opinion. 19KFox review is a very good, because of all the things you just said about bad graphics, only one game, etc. Shelion had the game before the update and didn’t really mention how horrible the controls were before the update. She just said they were a little loose. They were god awful just like the graphics. And if you’re a company making home arcades or any type of arcades, they should really resemble the play of an actual arcade game or why make an arcade. Never understand why people call these toys they’re all toys These are just smaller to fit in your home and don’t need to be commercial quality built. Yeah you can make a cheaper body and cheaper controls but you can’t cheat out that bad on the gameplay or lie about what games are on the machine.

WiFi is always going to be hit or miss with gaming. Hard wired is the way to go. Sounds like if you want the side art and fun factor without thinking of the original game it’s a winner. However I prefer to have both system link and online racing. Give me the originals. Upgrade the chip set and make the graphics work too. Otherwise it is a nice base cab to start with to put hopefully a buy stuff arcade update/swap into it. Meanwhile I’ll stick with my ridge racer until the price comes down or a mod kit comes out.

My question is: Who is this for? All of the Fast and Furious parts of the game are removed, so it's false advertising to those fans other than the artwork. A lot of the game has been stripped down, so it's not really arcade authentic. Just a baffling release, and the best bang for buck option is an Outrun or Ridge Racer cab with BuyStuffStores mod.

EXCELLENT summary, Michael B.... appreciate you not sugar-coating this. The fact is, $600 is a LOT of money these days, and we deserve better than a deceptively marketed, underpowered cabinet that has half the play value of the original. This blatantly anti-consumer strategy is going to catch up to them at some point (if it isn't already).

I have a hard time caring about this era of arcade racer. I love the old Cruis'n games but everything Raw Thrills pumps out feels the same and really basic. It's a far cry from the golden age of arcade racers. But Arcade 1up should at least live up to that low bar.

Hoping Arcade1up doesn't do this to Hydro Thunder or Daytona USA and actually has online play and being able to directly network the cabinets together. But instead of having to buy extra hardware you could just do it. Hoping they hear this...

I really like the look of the cab and it does still seems like fun. Linking cabs together to play with my family and friends is really the true desire more then the game. I probably will get 2 of these, but only when they are extremely discounted if and when that happens. The real problem is that fact that they keep marketing things that aren't accurate and do it blatantly. If you can't make a game the way it supposed to be, then be forthright and upfront about it. Stop lying to the people who buy your product and keep your business viable. You can still make a lot of money and make your customers happy with their purchases if you do things right. You are 100% right Michael B.. There are plenty of 80s and early 90s games that can be done without putting out a chopped up version of a game that you can't get complete licensing for or can not run properly on your chip set. Stick to what can be done right with quality and when you have the ability to tackle new titles, then go for it. To many things seemed rushed and full or poor quality.

I think there is some confusion on just how this game ran originally. It wasn't a rom, and it used standard pc hardware in the cab. They originally ran on a gutted Windows Xp OS. The game installed off a DVD drive using a dvd. The specs of the actual PC inside the cab varied at the time. Some cabs had a Athlon Xp 2500 in them originally. If the hardware died, which would have been common at this time because it was during the bad caps era which Socket A suffered heavily from (I mean everything did in general, but especially Socket A from most manufacturers from Foxconn, MSI, Soyo etc), sometimes vendors would throw something like a Optiplex in there and get it running again using onboard video even. Basically as long as the gpu has Xp drivers it can work. The graphics cards used just varied depending on what the vendor was doing, from lower budget Geforce FX 5200 cards to others. I have literally seen this game running in a small Fun Room arcade in a Wal-Mart in Jacksonville, Arkansas back in 2006 and it looked just as bad as the A1up release, making it look like it was running on a 3DFX Voodoo 2 or Banshee instead of a Geforce card, like all the life was sucked out of the visuals. Basically made me think some vendors got the game running on Geforce MX cards in a pinch or it was using the onboard video of whatever was thrown in there. So in that regard, you actually are getting the arcade games visuals. The arcade game was made to run on a wide variety of specs.

The developers of Fast and Furious blatantly copied and pasted code from Cruisin' Exotica. While the cabinet is decent, I cannot in good conscience recommend purchasing it at its current price point of $600. However, if you are a fan of the Cruisin' N64 games, you may find some enjoyment in this title at a more reasonable price of $299. It seems as though the developers took a shortcut in creating this game, but at least they didn't try to reinvent the wheel - they just stole one from their own garage.

I am loving mine! Its fun gameplay , art on cab looks great in the gameroom and thats really what matters to me. Lets enjoy these cabs for what they are if you dont like it dont buy it simple!

When I state this is the best cabinet to date since I haven’t reviewed it yet, it has the best speakers of any cabinet, best cabinet design, I feel it’s a step forward with the way it’s built (building the cabinet). But I also pointed out the graphics tore during gameplay live. It’s a racing game with fast and the furious cabinet design. It’s fun no doubt, but again that’s my opinion and only my opinion.

I see the flaws in the game, but honestly, I think it looks fine. For everyone to expect it to be a 100% copy of the original game is laughable. The community needs to remember these are toys, not actual arcade machines. Yes it’s actually just Tokyo Drift, but it makes no sense business-wise making it a Tokyo Drift cabinet when Fast and the Furious is the IP….and for all we know, this could have been part of the licensing agreement with universal to use the title. Overall, it still looks like a fun game and we finally have the chance to link and race against others.

At $599 this is a hard pass. 30 FPS, its not really the arcade game, no built in Ethernet, why. What is the PCB in this cabinet I am going to keep asking and no one knows, no one will look under the "hood" once we know what PCB this is we can judge how much they tried here. If its a RK3399, maybe that's the best it could do, if its a lower end PCB then they def punted hard, the fact it doesn't have ethernet built in is VERY suspicious. So at 399 or even 299 many of the flaws detailed can be forgiven, at full price this is a poor purchase and not very well executed release.

User satisfaction is immaterial to the fact that A1U committed fraud by willfully misleading customers into purchasing a cab with no vestige of its marquee IP, and clearly one title versus two. I can’t get beyond that unacceptable behavior to consider merits of the deliverable.

I know this is an old video, but I picked up F&F over the holidays and it's a ton of fun. Wish the graphics were better (they are worse than the Wii version when comparing details and textures) and the "two game" thing is very lame, but the game itself is great - as is the steering wheel, responsiveness and overall feeling of speed. The pin save system is fantastic and gives the game a ton of reply value. It's become one of my most played cabs.

30 FPS, compromises made, not actual arcade version of the game. Its not 2 separate arcade versions of fast and furious. Remember theres been issues with other Arcade1up games that had lesser issues (nba jam roster, late hits removed from blitz, music changes) at least those other games were arcade roms unlike FF Sounds like legit complaints to me. It may be possible to still have fun w 2 players however criticisms are still warranted Personally i dont want the game made if its got half assed chip sets that cant run the game properly.

Buck Hunter is the real arcade game. That's the biggest difference. Raw Thrills should have said, can't do it. This needs a good PC to play properly.

I’ve had mine since release. Played the hell out of it. It’s…. Ok. Mediocre graphics, a measly 30fps. I’m not saying it’s absolutely terrible. But it certainly is NOT worth the price point. I may even send it back. If they updated it with a higher frame rate I’d keep it!

Fox had his son actually playing the game with him on the linked cabs. Shelion had no one playing against her. I wonder if that had anything to do with game play. I also think there is such negativity about this game cause of the deceit. Claiming to be 2 games when it's only one. Linkable with cabs but no ethernet ports. Cables not even included to connect the cabs. They might as well start selling the cabs without a power cord. You have to buy your own if you want to use your cab.

@Sailing SV Zara If this last minute claim was Arcade1up's first time something like this happened I would be more understanding. This is a normal Arcade1up stumble. They just can't seem to keep their heads out the a$$. They shouldn't have started the build process till the game play was complete. Why is it Ridge Racer had an ethernet port and linking the cabs isn't even an option. And the cabs being released but you couldn't even link them until an update was sent out is poor quality control. Yes the update was released a day or two later but that is a day or two too late. Just makes Arcade1up look incompetent, again. I like Arcade1up. I have many of their cabs but it's just frustrating that they can't seem to get anything right the 1st time.

Michael B. I think I'm more disappointed in the lack of details Arcade1up put forward when they officially announced the Fast and the Furious cab. I think some who wanted to know the full skinny on what they were getting, instead got a swerve-job. But like you said, it all depends on what one wants. Sometimes fun is enough, and it sounds like there are those who feel they got their money's worth, that makes me feel good. For me, for 600 some dollars, it would have to be pretty faithful to the arcade games it's suggesting. vgv

A1up needs to stay in the nostalgia arcade lane. The reason why myself and many others collect these is for the nostalgia of our youth. This game is just too new of a title to release especially on their current hardware. Give the consumer what they want, which is classic games from the 70’s,80’s & 90’s.

12:10 : Arcade1Up did a fantastic job with the Ridge Racer cab: no graphical downgrade and all 5 games running at 60 fps, this is a proof they can do better than just releasing 8-colors games from the 80's

Alright, honestly, I can’t digest the majority of the home arcade YT community at this point; Michael, you were sort of the last bastion I had hope in to at least recognize the importance of the element of enjoyment, but its obvious that ship has sailed. Just gonna ask this: what premise has convinced you, Dubs, 19KFox, Bee, Justin, and the every other influencer on here to expect a 100% faithful recreation of a $5,000-$10,000 original arcade unit to be sold for $600, OR LESS? How does that make any sense? Thrilled people are still purchasing and enjoying these cabinets and overlooking the nitpicking. Yeesh.

Hey man, not sure if you watched the entire video but towards the end I did offer a counterpoint to say most people who picked it up don’t seem to care about these issues and are just really enjoying the game. The conclusion was of this stuff would annoy you probably don’t buy but if you don’t care about any of this stuff and want to have fun it seems like it’s a good pick for you. Thanks for watching

Yes, I watched the whole video. 80% of the video consists of either you bashing the release and all of its terrible flaws or its you repeating what someone else said about how bad of a cabinet it is. The other 20% is begrudging admission that people are still somehow finding a way to enjoy the cabinet in spite of its many flaws, and how insane that is. I am glad 19KFox at least posted a vid showing the crossover cable connection, which honestly makes this a dream situation for an additional $60, but of course he had to litter his 3 minute video with complaints of how this should have been communicated from the get go. You gents and lady have lost sight of what makes this company and this hobby so marvelously enjoyable - WE HAVE ARCADES IN OUR FREAKIN HOMES. As always, people can’t just enjoy stuff, they now feel the need to bash the golden goose that made this miracle possible for crapping out eggs that aren’t nearly as shiny as they feel they deserve. You do you man; I really REALLY used to love watching your vids talking about how awesome these cabinets were and how enjoyable it was to play them, namely your vids on Golden Axe II and X-Men, since you are one of the few who saw that Captain America and the Avengers is a hidden gem. Fair criticism is one thing, this has turned into a witch hunt, and it’s not entertaining anymore. Just .02 from a schlub nobody.

Excellent analysis of the game without playing it. The game obviously sucks but I can still see it being somewhat fun. I feel that it's not right to support this game though because of how poor the effort was from arcade1up on it. I just hope they don't stuff time crisis up.

I stopped buying Arcade 1up cabs after #9. 3 broke all in under a year. I began thinking all of these review channels were in "bed" with the company because I was astounded anyone would continue reviewing product from a horrible company.

It's not bad, but it's also not a real arcade game. It's a 30FPS very dialed down graphics arm port of a game, split in two. Mediocre as a result. A1Up has hit the slippery slope now, along with a market program that helps foster shills.

Yea this is a piece of garbage but so is the real fast n furious arcade machine . No brain required . Just slam accelerator down whole time . But is it fun to jump on a see some fancy graphics waterfalls n giraffes n sht , yea. I think so. Once it goes down to 300-400. Will be worth it. Now if Nintendo switch releases a port of this game , there’s no need to get this at all

I think as a whole its a great machine price is fair. Game is fun arcade play. 1 piece no riser. Coin door, lit marquee. Great design with screen higher. What do people want. So it’s missing some cars. I dont care what people think. I like it. I may pick up another if they go to 300 down the road and hard link them up. As for you Mike. You haven’t played it. How can you review it. Just stating what others have said.
