First of all a big thank you to the guys from Vermil that they sent these rings for testing. Here the link to their website:

I have come to watch and learn from my archery sensei... I've learned so much about using my Hungarian bow from these wonderful sessions.

I've contacted Vermil about attaining a Classic, but their sizing chart was a bit baffling. My shooting thumb joint measured straight is 73mm give or take.

Finally a video comparison of Vermil Thumbrings. I will share your videos to my peers as some of them are still confused which Vermil ring they should use. Also I've figured that using Lotus and Turkish ring does give pain a bit and prolong use may build calluses at below joint of the thumb. Vermil Representative have said that Lotus thumbring needs more practice to get use to. Since Turkish thumbring is kinda new product in their line, I appreciate that you show us how does it feel when shooting although you look uncomfortable when using it.

Thank you for reviewing these rings. I have been looking at Vermil rings for a while. Now I know which one I am going to buy. Happy Holidays!

I have a Vermil Victory too. The little V notch works well with the thumb in keeping the string in place and you get a good feeling of control unlike other rings. No slipping up and down since a part of your thumb is still in direct contact with the string.

exactly :) thanks for watching

I agree with your assessment. I enjoy the Victory all around for any bow, especially 50# and up. The Turkish is my favorite for anything 40# and under, but with heavier bows I can't get the thumb angle right without hurting myself.

I use a piece of leather with my Turkish thumb ring. Therefore I can protect my skin. Accuracy is the most important criterion for me. Thanks for your video :)

Shoot the beginner ring without kathra, I think that the bump the string passes over is giving the arrow more deflection so it's probably closer to shooting three fingers on the left.

I have used the Vermil Turkish since I started 8 months ago. I have a huge callous from it now and heavier rings feel weird. You mentioned...I think...that you weren't into thumbrings...but you appear to use a so called Mongolian release (like Mongolian BBQ...lol) so do you use thumb protection ...or what else? Thank you. Love your videos!

usually I shoot without rings or protection. Sometimes with my manchu bow, use a manchu ring. Thanks for watching

Looks like the old version of the "turkish" bow from AF Archery but I could be wrong.

dear Armin, will you consider to review on the metal rings and the new lantern ring from vermil? the lantern is awesome and the metal rings feel quite different from the plastic ones.

Mr. Armin, is the thumb formed to be 90° or more than 90° when using the thumbring correctly?
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 4 года назад
depends on the ring, roughly around 90

what is that bow? is it an actual horn/sinew composite?

Are thumb rings still used when temperatures are near or at freezing or is something else used instead? Thank you
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 лет назад
I think yes. usually they were made out of antler, so it surely was no problem. Maybe metal rings caused problems then :)

If your fingers get too cold you can use tight fitting leather gloves (or whatever gloves else you prefer). Glue or attach an extra leather tab on your drawhand thumb or get an XL-sized ring that fits over your glove.

Amazing. I might get a thumb ring. But I still want to try my tatar bow (40# @28" - 50#??? @32") without.
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 лет назад
start slow with your thumb, draw just a bit, then half of the bow until your thumb gets used to it :) have fun

1) WHY are Vermil thumb rings the least "budget friendly" thumb rings? 2) Have you done a review/comparison of the "budget friendly" leather and brass or copper thumb rings? 3) Is it true that archers who use thumb rings wear them 24/7 (a) so it is always available for use, and (b) to show they ARE an archer; no matter where they are, and, with or without their bow and quiver of arrows? 4) HOW do you SIZE a thumb ring?!? I bought two low cost heavy solid brass thumb rings with the lip. A size 22 mm (too big, tho a 1.5 ~ 2 mm strip of leather glued inside made it a little better.) and a 20 mm; a snug fit over the knuckle, but very floppy once past the knuckle. I also have a thick rawhide "adjustable" thumb ring, but it might as well not be on. String pressure goes right through it, and is uncomfortable with my EFFECTIVE 41; 45; and 48 pound draw* "Mongolian" and "Turkish" "horse bows". (*I am deformed "thanks" to a hereditary bone disorder. My draw length is a "child-like" 23.5 (twenty-three point five) inches or 59.69 cm. I'm "thinking" of trying one of the leather and brass thumb rings, before giving up and getting a compound bow thumb release to use with the horse bows, and "western" take down recurve bow ... probably without a string loop. I haven't decided on that yet. Considering the availability of large loop replacement bow strings, a string loop might cut string wear. (and provide a consistent knocking point.)

many options, you will find your way. 1) for me they have a good price/value ratio. 2) check my videos, if there aren't, then no 3) I heard that and some do it even nowadays :D. 4) depends on which ring, mostly you willed 2 or 3 anyways, as your thumb is not always the same size.

Those are shit. I bought a blue one 3 months ago and broke when I dropped it from chest high. Save your money and buy a metal one or better yet a horn thumb ring
