Last summer I met up with archery coach Arne Moe to work on my form and technique. Even though I primarily bowhunt vs compete in target archery, I believe the fundamentals apply to each. Arne has a Level 4 certification in NTS, which not only means he understands proper shooting biomechanics, but has also proven that he knows how to coach it. Originally, the issue I had was that the string would contact my nose and face upon release. After working on the relaxed string arm and a rotational draw about my core, I've pretty much eliminated my ailment, am shooting much better, and able to hold at full draw more comfortably.

I just bought a recurve bow. I was and would still like to shoot a compound bow. This video is the most helpful video I have watched to teach me proper form! I’m glad that I found it before learning bad habits. I would like to hunt eventually with my recurve. First I need to shoot correctly and build confidence and accuracy to be able to hunt. Thank you very much for this educational content!!!

Archers!!! Look carefully at the form and release of Mr. A. Mow!! This is a master Archer and obviously an outstanding instructor as to Archery 🏹!!! This archer is literally doing EVERYTHING right!! As an archer myself, I understand exactly what the requirements are for this yet I very rarely meet these requirements like this instructor!!! I recommend watching this post more than once!!!

Got to the 20 min mark and had to pause to go shoot in the garden with the tips fresh in my head. Keep head up and straight, relax forearm, fence post body..draw and raise into anchor. Smooth good feeling releases with grapefruit groups at 20 mtr.. awesome! I only started two weeks ago.

This goes to show you never stop learning! I've been shooting traditional archery and now a Chek-mate crusader longbow for the past 4 years and the more I learn the more I see how much is to this sport. Great video I'm gonna totally apply this technique to my form cause I've had the string clip my nose a time or two and now I'm gonna work on keeping my head more straight up and square to the string

I struggled many years with trying to grip that string also . It’s a tough one to break. The heavier the bow the harder this is to stop doing. It’ll cause us to have poor shooting form. Form creates function and function is form. Forces are alignment and alignment will create a flow of the shot form. All will become one . This is great instruction from this man . I love how he said alignment of the bones will dictate the anchor . Inadvertently I never thought about this but he is correct. So much about all he is saying is so good . The shot with traditional bow is form and follow through. Learn this first then when shooting instinctively with this and good arrow flight you will start group your arrows where you are looking. Just like throwing a ball. It’s mechanics and when you work with the body mechanics the shot will just happen. From there then rotate that mechanical position to where the arrows are going towards the intended target . Again the teachings of this guy are great. Thanks for sharing this .

I'm very new to archery and have been struggling so much with my anchor. I've watched countless videos on how to get a good anchor. I was always amazed at how the Olympic style recurve archers drew back and down and then moved up into anchor. I could never grasp the mechanics of it. It looks so nice. Now I know! Arnys explanation of getting the alignment of the bones right first and then just move up into anchor not only explained how it works, but makes complete sense. All it took was one simple sentence to make it hit home! I'll try this technique for sure. Brilliant video 👏👏❤️

I'm struggling with the same issue right now. And I have been trying to figure out this whole rotational draw deal. He's got some good advice I can't wait to try. Archery is a long journey. I've only been shooting for a year. And every time I try to get those groups closer together and focus on aiming, I watch, see or experiencing something that tells me my form just isn't there yet.
@heysteve84
@heysteve84 5 лет назад
It's a valuable lesson he made about how your anchor is a reference point at which you have alignment, not just some arbitrary spot on your face. I didn't even realize that, so when I next go shooting I have some calibrating to do. I was also amused by "Compound has engineered the human out of it as much as it can; Traditional has engineered the equipment out of it as much as it can."

Thank you for sharing...That O'l fella saved your nose,,,lol! Great video! He is right about this will change your draw length ...some. I have many longbows, 60# down to 46# I found that the bone alignment as in "Terry's clock" is much easier to notice with the heavier poundage. So when I switch bows and go down in poundage it takes me a few shots more to zero in on my form. Great video my friend...there is nothing more satisfying than the Stick & String!

I had a problem hitting my nose for the longest time. I discovered it was as you mentioned that I was not turning my head far enough. My neck was actually tight when I turned it. So I was not turning it enough and beat my nose bloody. But ever since I began to turn my head away from the path of the string I have not had any problems with hotting my nose. And my neck has actually loosened up some.

Cool vid. I think it's a great idea to get a professional involved if you can, lol. I don't know what you shoot when you do form practice and such but if you're using a 50# bow for your serious shooting/hunting, do some form work with a lighter bow so you know what that good draw feels like and what your body feels like rather than having to be more concerned with drawing the heavier bow.

Great vid. All tips from Arne are 100%. Good form and release will cure noose slap for most. But for me it did not. Hers my story. I have had serious nose slapping issues leading to a point I gave up shooting. At the time I shoot recurve with stringwalking. (common style in sweden). In this style you shoot 3 under and for me it was vip to align string with arrow tip to get realle good accuracy. Problem was I could never reach perfect alignment wo slapping nose too much. The string just got to close to nose when aligned with tip. After a couple of yrs, I got sick of taping / bleeding nose and gave up..... a couple yrs later I bought a long bow and tried instinctive shooting with split finger. Zero or very rare nose slapping but ok accuracy (=less than string walking but all ok for being instinctive). So why was this? For me it has to do with 3 things. -now I cant the bow a bit, 5-10 degrees. This moves the string away from nose -the split finger, for me, tends to give less noose slap compared to 3 under. I have no good explanation to this. -i do not care about string alignemnt with the tip. I just look down the arrow as a barrel of a gun to get alignment when drawing bow. Of above, for me. Canting of the bow is probably the main thing. But the other do play in for me here as weel. As Arne says in the vid. Its a mm sport. Just a slight canting of the bow can move string some mm from the nose.
