The Arduino Opta IoT PLC allows you to conveniently program it using the Arduino PLC IDE in ladder diagram format. This is the most common industrial PLC language, a simple and intuitive method. Additionally, you can program it in any of the five official languages specified in the IEC standard and using sketches written in C++.
However, this article will solely concentrate on programming the Opta PLC using ladder logic, widely used in industrial automation and control applications. I dont have the same variable as shown in your library, did you add more? For instance, I dont have a Button_Input

This might be a bit of an ask, but it would be good if you could show how to connect the arduino Opta to SCADA platform like Ignition (using Modbus TCP probably). There is very little documentation online and quite tricky to figure out. Cheers

Hi @slipnslime9982 I have requested additional documentation on the Modbus TCP / RTU communication for the OPTA. I plan on explaining how this works when Arduino has documented it and it is proven to work. So far, during my experiments, I have gotten the Modbus TCP Client working, but not the Server because the addresses have not been documented. I have been promised by Ardunio to have this in a couple of weeks. Regards, Garry

@@ACCautomation okay thank you. There’s another RU-vidr Jacob Sagatowski who managed to do some SCADA stuff with a portenta but I could not manage to get it to work with the Arduino OPTA. I’m doing this for my electrical engineering thesis in University so don’t have any industry experience with PLC/SCADA and I doubt I did it correctly. Will be interesting if you can achieve this

@@slipnslime9982 Using the native C++ and Arduino IDE software, you can achieve this currently. However, using the Arduino PLC IDE software, there is no documentation. We will see what Arduino comes back with. I believe that this will be a firmware update or software update with the documentation. Regards, Garry

The industrial input sensors are 24v. Can we connect directly?

You can directly connect the 24 DC voltage sensors to this Opta controller. Please see this quick start guide for this controller. accautomation.ca/arduino-opta-iot-plc-quick-start-ladder-logic/ It will show you how to wire sensors into the Opta controller. Regards, Garry

I am not sure where this device is supposed to fit. It doesnt have expandable IO and its price point puts it in the same space as the click, logo and easy e4.
