I have a question, I recently found out that europeans and asians usually have around 2% neanderthal DNA, but would that not contradict the fact that we are 99% genetically similar? Shouldn't there be a 2% difference in the genetics of let's say an asian and south american person?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics
@FamilyHistoryFanatics 2 года назад
It wouldn't contradict. We're 99% similar. In the 1% difference comes the 2% increased likelihood of one region to have more of some genetic group that the other.

Brilliant, this the best explanation of how differences occur and still are within the 99.8% I think it's because we think of genes as single units not as labels for groupings of smaller units. It's chemistry all the way down.

@FamilyHistoryFanatics
@FamilyHistoryFanatics 5 лет назад
You don't really have spider DNA, so your teacher was wrong. You and the spider share some similar DNA which could more appropriately be called nephrozoa DNA (that is the earliest clade that insects and mammals both belong to).

Change one letter in a sentence and it can completely change its meaning. Humans are obviously not all the same and why we know that just an infinitesimally small amount of genetic variance can make a huge difference in traits like intelligence.
@FamilyHistoryFanatics
@FamilyHistoryFanatics 4 года назад
Or the change in one ietter has very little effect and the sentence is still readable.
@ELee-zv5ud

Old analysis, IQ is the consequence of many genes. That theory was developed before epigenetics existed.
@roncoyle6296
@roncoyle6296 4 года назад
@@ELee-zv5ud Doesn't change the fact that small genetic variance can lead to major differences. Humans are not all the same and could be easily divided up into different species. So says many of the greatest scientific minds who have ever lived. That is evolution and of course we see it through out the animal kingdom, including humans.

Did you know that we share 98% same genome with chimps only if we exclude 25% of our and 18% of their genome that cannot be matched up? The remainder matches 98%. For an unknown reason this part of information is missing from most presentations...

I've a question. According to video we're 99% same because of coding region of the DNA like your example of a gene coding for blood group then we are 1% different because of non coding region of DNA or junk DNA which is also 98% of the DNA ... Please tell me which region of DNA (coding or junk DNA) makes us different.. And please help me to get out of this confusion
@FamilyHistoryFanatics

We have to be the mostly the same because all of the basic live functions need to work or you die. For instance, if the DNA to catalyze glucose is messed up, you won't be able to create energy in your body. You'll die before you even get out of the womb. If your DNA messes up the formula for making certain cellular proteins, you die (before you even make it out of the womb again). The human genome is so massive that even 0.1% is a huge amount of information to make billions and billions of uniquely different people. And yes, it all leads back to Africa. Which in and of itself is amazing because anthropologists have been zeroing in on an African origin for modern humans for more than 100 years, long before DNA was ever known. The sequencing of the genome and comparative genetics has confirmed that Africa is the origin of all modern humans.

When all humans DNA is almost the same. Conclusion is very simple we are not from apes and all humans in this world no matter where you are roots back to the same ancestors and origin.

Not there yet, we are cousins of primates, we share most of our genes with them. That is why new drugs are tested first on mice and then on chimps before being tried on humans. All of life is related with different amounts of common genes. We are related to everything alive, closer to primates than to rice. Our origin is chemical. We are star dust.

We share about 64% of our DNA with a banana. A 0.001% difference between humans is far enough to make all the difference between every single human subraces existing in the planet. Just like we acknowledge that there are several tiger subspecies - 7 or 8 aprox. , several orangutan subspecies and so forth, is pretty obvious that a scandinavian is not the same as an australian aboriginal, nor a subsaharan pigmy is the same as a mongol, etceteras.
