If you want to try something different with elastics try this Attach a spring balance to a upright 5ft off the ground Attach a Dacron connector to the elastic hook the connector on to the spring balance mark the elastic and the upright 100mm from the back of the connector and continue to mark the upright in 100mm intervals down to the floor Take the elastic by the mark and pull it down to the 100mm mark read off the weight continue in 100mm steps until the elastic bottoms out This shows the different characteristics and strengths between different elastic's ie hydro hollow or solid
Another good one thanks. I’d be willing to send you some off cuts of MAP hybrid if you do want to do more. One thing that would be interesting is how much each stretches before bottoming out, but I do realise that would be difficult to do and even harder to film! Overall conclusion stick to one brand and get used to it, at least we can now shut up those people who say they are all the same out of the same factory just different colours.
I've actually been doing something similar with pole floats and Stotz (shots) - its amazing how far out the are from their stated weights (over 10% is not unusual )
@@AverageAngler I bought a set of electronic scales from Amazon - they will do 0.01 of a gram - probably available for dealers as powder is a suggested use !!
Very interesting experiments, it can be confusing for some, but with the advent of 3m v 6m it makes sense to me and I now know which elastic I will be using in future, have tried most hybrids and like you have found varying results,consistency is the key.
Think you will find that the accuracy of manufacturing process will be the biggest variant. I would expect that manufacturing to tolerances of tenths of millimetres would make price prohibitive - very interesting though
Its is something I thought about, I wonder if I did a check in 12months if the diameters would have altered much on different batchs of the same product?
@@AverageAngler i buy mine on eBay at a vary good price . £10 for 10m . ive tried every elastic going . ive come to the conclusion the top match men are promoting there products as the hydro and the rest are crap . lots off issues , ive tried and tried . hollow is in control off the fish . i inject my budget elastic with preston spray . i will never ever be going back as the elastic as not perished spilt or cracked in months off use . thanks great video's . heads up to pellet guys im buying there products thanks to your input cheers CHRIS
It’s a really good point your making here. If you stick to one brand it doesn’t matter. You will be fishing with a different strength with a different size. However if you use different brands and scale down it may be the same strength as your normal brand, so losing the advantage of scaling down. So the big lesson really is pick a brand and stick to it. If you do decide to change to a different brand, change all your elastic’s. I think?🫤🫤🫤
