1. Nerf Steel 2. Nerf Fairy INTO THE GROUND 3. Make Bug super effective to Fairy as well as resist Fairy and straight up IMMUNE to Poison 4. Add the Bug Type terrain from Masters 5. Buff Hydreigon until its God. Sure, its not a Bug Type, but its weak to Bug, so by buffing it, it retroactively buffs Bugs and makes my dreams reality. 6. Make Victory Dance avaliable to physical attacking Bugs, namely Scizor and Heracross, to contrast Quiver Dance Bugs like Venomoth and Volcarona

1. Make Bug resist Fairy, Psychic, and Dark moves 2. Make Fairy weak to Bug 3. Give them stronger, more widespread offensive moves, like a physical attack with 95 BP and 100% accuracy to at least help bridge the gap between Leech Life/Lunge/x-Scissor and Megahorn, and a special attack with 110 BP and 85% accuracy so that special attackers don't just have 90 BP Bug Buzz and Pollen Puff

I feel a big issue with the bug type is a lack of unique and creative dual types. Like to this day im still angry yanmega is not a bug dragon.
@Galavantworks
@Galavantworks 8 месяцев назад
Actually I believe Bug has some of the most diverse typings in Pokémon. It’s only missing two type combinations left. While Bug/Dragon is a cool typing having a 4x resistance to grass, but gaining/retaining 5 weaknesses, and being resisted/immuned by 6 doesn’t benefit the type overall if it’s being carried by the benefits of dual typing. It’s about time Bug typing got a rework.
@sephikong8323
@sephikong8323 8 месяцев назад
@@GalavantworksBug/Dragon is still a very interesting type to have in battle due to the sheer number of important resistances it has, it legitimately resists 4 of the best offensive types in the game (Ground, Fighting, Electric and Water) whilst being neutral to common coverage to those types like Fire or Dark, sure it has many weaknesses (though the Flying and Dragon ones are relatively easy to play around as they are very rarely ran as coverage moves, so you should be safe on that front as long as you don't send it on a Dragon or Flying type), but it can very easily serve as a great Pivot. Seriously, look at how well this dual type pairs up with a Steel type for example, or even a Ground type, you could easily pivot between the two to cover a ton of different things. I'd say it has clear potential in practice, much more than just looking at raw stats of the typing would indicate

Plus, they removed it in the same gen they removed Hidden Power, so Jolteon legitimately lost all of it's coverage options, it now only has Electric, Ghost and Normal moves, that is insulting. Ribombee in the Gen 9 DLC has been great for tiers like OU and Ubers, mainly because of its 124 speed and Sticky Web. Other moves it can learn is Quiver Dance, Tailwind, and Stored Power. It has the ability Shield Dust that completely negates secondary effects like flinch from Fake Out and Salt Cure. Ribombee has definitely gotten a glow-up because of terastallization and it deserves the heights it has gotten to now. I personally run a speed control set of the mon on my team and it works pretty good with Alolan Ninetales and other pokemon like Torkoal, Ogerpon-Heartflame, and Walking Wake.

Agreed that bug should be super effective against fairy, not the other way around. To be honest, they should just give it the dark or grass treatment: make it far more usable at shutting down specific situations. For example, make bug types immune to trick room due to being so "small", make them being immune to being confused because multiple bugs have flawless sense of direction (actually no that sounds horrifying). They clearly do not want to make it a heavy hitter, so make it shut down specific things like grass (immunity to powder moves like the 3 status powders, rage powder and so on) or dark (immune to prankster priority)
@beanburrito4405
@beanburrito4405 8 месяцев назад
1. Pinsir is good in Gen 1. With SD and strong Normal moves, it has potential to sweep weakened teams. The type of Bug isn’t even bad, it’s actually quite good defensively and would be able to attack psychics if it existed at all offensively. It’s only a fringe pick in OU, but it’s better than Scyther, that’s for sure. 2. Ninjask has been pretty good since HDB in Gen 8, actually. It’s not a bad Pokemon these days. 3. Accelgor is basically just a worse Ninjask, and Crustle is probably the worst shell smasher besides Magcargo. They’re better than most bugs in the previous gens but they’re not great. 4. I cannot understand why you write off Durant, beyond it being forgettable. It is better than its counterpart Heatmor by far, with actually decent stats, and has the single strongest turn 1 priority in the entire game with a STAB Hustle-boosted Life Orb boosted First Impression coming off a respectable 109 attack stat, even out-damaging Rillaboom’s Banded Grassy Glide in Grassy Terrain by the slimmest of margins. It has the infamous Bug/Steel typing and can take a hit on the physical side while threatening to OHKO almost everything UU and below and even most of the OU roster as well, provided it hits. It has been UUBL before and was a META pick in early Gen 8 VGC thanks to Dynamax, which makes it the second best Gen 5 bug viability-wise behind only Volcarona (and maybe Baton Pass Scolipede if you include cheese), who is Volcarona. There’s a reason you could only find this thing on Victory Road when it was first introduced. The only reason it isn’t used more is because every move is like Hydro Pump with Hustle, and because Bug/Steel is a relatively poor offensive type combo, but it’s still always been one of the best bug types in any generation it’s in 5. I don’t think Gen 7 was leaving bug types behind, personally. All the new bug types are above average besides Vikavolt who is too slow and frail to do anything besides get knocked out most of the time. It’s about equal with Gen 5 in that most are ok to decent with a few being amazing, in this case Pheromosa and Buzzwole who were Uber and UUBL/OU respectively. Also, this is the generation that introduced First Impression, which is the third best bug move behind U-Turn and Quiver Dance. So I do think that Gen 7 has done more to help the bug type than any other than gen 5 and gen 8 with HDB. 6. Heavy Duty Boots was enough to make a lot of bug types viable in gen 8. It was actually really substantial for the type so I was surprised not to see it mentioned. Many new bug type runs HDB following gen 8 Overall, the Bug Type is actually pretty ok. It’s definitely better than Ice and Rock (in terms of if you’d want to have the type, not use the typed move) and is about on par with Poison. Actually, Poison is a great point of comparison- both are types which are surprisingly ok defensively and terrible offensively, and while poison definitely has better defensive matchups and actually hits a relevant type in Fairy, Bug still has that Ground and Fighting resistance alongside some special tools to help it keep up, those being Sticky Web, Quiver Dance, and First Impression. All imo

Just Technician and proper dual-STAB made it better. Gaining Bullet Punch and Superpower in Platinum just sealed the deal. Certainly more due to being a Steel type and with the combined Bug typing leaving it a single weakness but still a major success story.

My absolute favorite bug type. Spent alot of time raising a good one I used for online battles. Bred a gliscore with baton pass and swords dance to set it up. Threw an assault vest on him to help against things trying to take it down with fire. Faired well most of the time and swept most opponents

I think the most important thing to remember is that while Nintendo really loves the free attention that comp pokemon brings, game freaks primary concern is balancing a primarily single player experience that *happens* to have a niche hardcore multiplayer audience. And part of that balance is bug type being weaker because something has to be both an early game enemy AND good enough to use early game but fall off late game to encourage players to diversify.

Don't sleep on Durant, that thing was an RU menace and really cut the mid-tiers to pieces. But overall yeah I do sympathize with the sentiment. I think bug was genuinely supposed to be a joke type or at least were not to be used permanently for the entire game. Look at the roster across the first 4 gens- except heracross, scyther line, armaldo and forretress all the bug types are early route weak pokemon where the base stats barely cross 400. There were no good bug moves except HP bug, twineedle, megahorn. It’s one of the worst defensive types, it’s only key resistance being the omnipresent ground type They were supposed to be the early game mini bosses that teach you about stuff like paralysis, sleep and poison (hence they have the powder moves that spread status) but then they had to make a bug type elite 4 member and they saw how pathetic the type was, which is why his ace is not even a bug type. This influences the introduction of better bugs in gen 5 like scolipede, escavalier, durant and most importantly genesect

5:25 u turn is a huge buff to bugs as it made switching more punishing. Not only does your opponent lose momentum, but it loses a decent chunk of health from stab u turn. U turn alone made bug an actual relevant attacking type. Mons like scizor wouldn’t be as good as it is now without it as it has the strongest u turn. One of the primary reason gensect got ban was because it was so hard to switch into it and u turn was a huge factor in this.

No mention of gen 1 pinsir, the actual strongest bug type in gen 1, Leavanny is completely left out despite being pretty good in game, Scolipede's stat buffs are missed when talking about his gen VI buff, no mention of tinted lens despite being almost exclusively a bug type ability. And though frosmoth isn't very good, its ability definitely is. Ice Scales at least deserved a brief mention. Type matchups are also a pretty important thing to mention for a video like this. The fact that almost half of all types resist it is pretty crazy. Defensively though, it does a decent job. Being able to resist close combat and earthquake is always a plus. Not sensing much love for the bug type from this video, which is a shame because it's one of my favorite types.

Assuming they don't change type effectiveness (which they really should, and if they did should also hit up ice type) Then I'd suggest a few things: Namely a freeze-dry type move that is VERY exclusive to the type proper. Ideally hitting fairy, ghost, and/or fighting for super effective. (I'm thinking something like a "soul" attack) You could also have a gimmick move that hits for reverse type effective. As a bug type move that would make it hit the most types for super effective. And be resisted by very few. They could also have their own terrain, or a lingering effect like it. I'd do the latter so its one of the only "terrain" options that can't be countered. Which would give it a lot of staying power. People might feel like theh *need* ro run a bug type that way. (And if thats a problem add a held item that gives the same buff as the effect) For instance, it could be a permanent or 5 turn "terrain" that lays down silk. Then any of these kind of effects: All non-bug non-floating pokemon lose 20% speed while on it. Bug-type moves get a 30% boost. Bug-types recover HP when switched out. I also wouldn't mind more and better abilities that are basically bug only. I cpuld see swarm getting a boost as well. Such as making them gain a buff when on grassy terrain for example.

It is interesting that fire type having the 2nd most number of resistances of 6 (compared to steel having 11), is not considered a good defensive typing because the half of the resistances are not the best attacking types (bug, grass, steel) while the weaknesses are major (rock, ground, water). It is amazing that Game freak has this kind of balancing. Except for bug type. Bug type is totally unbalanced. Bug should be super effective to fairy.
@LoganGraham-wl7mn
@LoganGraham-wl7mn 8 месяцев назад
I think fairy shouldn’t have a resistance to bug. Neutral damage makes more sense. On top of that I think Bug has the most potential for unique and powerful abilities. For instance two of the best bugs around both have speed boost. And Shuckle has access to contrary. I think abilities like these that drastically change up how a Pokémon plays beyond just their stats and type, should be standard in making bug type both unique and as a way to really mix up their usage in teams. And finally my last suggestion that is admittedly the hardest to implement. Bugs irl are notoriously difficult to hit. Perhaps naturally having better odds of dodging would make sense. Like any move that doesn’t have fixed and perfect accuracy has a measly 1.5% possibility of missing. This of course wouldn’t matter in the case of attacks like Swift or Arial ace. I imagine this being so small it’d hardly matter.

Forretress and Heracross were killers from the moment they dropped. Obviously their viability changed as power creep and physical/special split happened, but then Unova gave us all the cool bugs to play with. It's definitely a sub-optimal type in itself, but you could still easily roll up to OU with said type on your team and nobody with any actual knowledge of the game would write you off.

I don't feel like Brock is much of a wall for bugs in gen 1, only the weedle family. In yellow the only reason I beat Brock was because I evolved a caterpie to butterfree and just confusion my way to victory (side note/tangent butterfree should have been bug/psychic due to it learning way more psychic moves but sure whatever gamefreak). I think bug pokemon as a whole just need a few better moves and for the love of everything make their fully evolved forms not have horrendous base stats, grassy terrain should also affect bugs in a positive way imo.

Make Bugs immune to confusion (they lack the semi-circular canals to be disorientated the traditional way), this not only makes them immune to incoming confusion attacks, but also makes them great targets for Flatter and Swagger, as well as giving them a leg up when using Thrash, Petal Dance, or Outrage. As for Type coverage, make them resist Fairy and deal super effective damage against Fairy and Electric (small insects are capable of shorting out circuitry) Lastly, change First Impression to a Base 45 move, but you can use it all the time and it's power is doubled if its your opening move. Also improve its distribution.

When we look at the bottom tier types, they offer some merits: - Poison has 3rd most resistances in 5 - Grass resists common attacking types & is fully immune to powder moves, which are highly prevalent in VGC - While Rock moves have shaky accuracy, when they land on targets they do a lot of damage & starting with G4 their SpD increases by 1.5× under Sand. - In terms of offense & defence, Ice is atleast good at 1 of those things whereas Bug fails at doing both. Barring a few exceptions as always, what do you achieve by using Bug Pkmn? It's resisted by 7 types & weak to (Stealth) Rock. For some unknown reason, they thought Fairy wasn't good enuf so it was given a 3rd resistance & out of all the types, Bug was chosen to be that.

i remember bug being weak to poison in the first gen then just effective in gen 2 onwards. I always thought it was a nod to how bugs will often gain resistance or immunity to poisons used to kill them over time. I kind of wish it would alternate (weak to poison gen 1, effective gen 2, resist gen 3, immune gen 4, and back to super effective in gen 5)

I remember Araquanid being pretty good. Spidops had potential to be pretty good, but they decided to give it a ridiculously horrible BST. Kleavor is pretty nice, sporting decent speed, pretty high attack, and it's exclusive move that essentially is Stealth Rock but also does damage, with an ability that gives a 50% buff to cutting-type attacks. I actually used to use Vivillon in Gen VI, as fire-type attacks were super predictable and Vivillon had access to a somewhat strange move called "Powder". Galvantula and now Vikavolt have access to Sticky Web, which can be incredibly useful. Vikavolt has Levitate, which leave it only weak to Rock and Fire initially. I think Bug-types are currently in a good spot.

defensively speaking the bug type isn't really bad. it is a worse flying type, but it is not bad. resisting ground and fighting is always a good thing defensively. who knows, if we are lucky maybe the new rainbow tera type will reverse the resistances and the bug type will be a force to be wreckoned with offensively.

One big turnoff when it comes to bug types is the type chart. All moves that fairy doesnt hit into effectively bug doesnt either, making it offensivelg redundant. Bug types have 3 resistances, flying types resist 2 of those, immune to the other, and resists bug... I was thinking that bug can resist something the flying type doesnt (not what for sure), and that psychics resist fairy type moves. Phychics need a small bjff as well and gives bug moves a reason to use since fairy already does everything bugs can't do and what bugs can do.

Defensively speaking the Bug typing pairs *beautifully* with Steel. Imo it's one of the best dual typings out there. The Bug typing turn Steel's weakness to Fighting and Ground into a neutrality and the Steel typing eliminates Rock and Flying as weaknesses. Becoming neutral to both. And that comes at the reasonable cost of a 4x weakness to Fire
