Hi Barry, I'm still shooting with a DSLR, and yes, SLR. My Canon A-1 which I bought in 1980 still works. July 2013, I bought one of my "bucket list" cameras, a used Canon New F-1. July 2013, I mentioned to my wife that KEH had an F-1 with the AE Motor Drive FN, and AE Finder FN for $400 (USD). She asked, "Is that their flagship?" I answered, "Yes, for the 80's." She said, "Buy it." She bought me a 5D III for Christmas 2013. It doesn’t matter if I shoot film or digital; I enjoy photography.

The debate between DSLR and mirrorless cameras remains a relevant and nuanced discussion in the world of photography. Both formats offer distinct advantages, and the choice between them depends on individual preferences, shooting styles, and specific needs. DSLR cameras, with their traditional design and internal mirrors, have a long-standing history and established user base. They excel in optical viewfinders, larger bodies, and an extensive selection of lenses. On the other hand, mirrorless cameras, with their compact and lighter bodies, offer benefits such as silent shooting, in-body stabilization, and fast autofocus systems. Both formats are capable of capturing high-quality images and videos, and the decision between them often comes down to personal preference and specific shooting requirements. For many photographers, especially those who do not shoot sports or other high-speed subjects, the choice between DSLR and mirrorless cameras may not hinge solely on the number of frames per second. The ability to produce great images and meet individual artistic goals is often more important than the technical capabilities of the camera. It's essential to remember that the choice of equipment should align with the photographer's artistic vision and the intended use of the images. While technological advancements and the rise of AI in photography may impact the landscape of camera technology in the future, the decision to upgrade to a new camera should be based on individual needs and the satisfaction with the current camera's performance. It's important to realize that camera manufacturers may prioritize sales and marketing, but the value of a camera lies in its ability to fulfill a photographer's creative potential. Therefore, the decision to upgrade to a new camera should be driven by the desire for new capabilities and features that align with a photographer's artistic vision, rather than solely by the urge to acquire the latest technology. In essence, the discussion around DSLR and mirrorless cameras should focus on individual preferences, artistic goals, and the specific requirements of the photographer, rather than being solely influenced by the marketing strategies of camera manufacturers. This message invites photographers to consider the creative aspects of photography and emphasizes the importance of choosing a camera based on its ability to fulfill their artistic vision and specific needs.

B4 Ib even watched your video... my answer is A BIG FAT YES!! Heres my reason why: PRICE PRICE PRICE!!! Not everyone is willing or can afford to dish out thousands of dollars on new mirrorless cameras and hundreds, even thousands of dollars on new glass!! That right there is good enough reason for many aspiring photographers. Including myself. I just recently purchased a Canon 5d MKiii with 16k actuations on Ebay (in exc. condition) for USD$ 350.00. My very first camera was a mirrorless Canon M50. Only to get discontinued a few years later. 😡 I would love to own some of the new Canon R series. But the process tags at the moment are just too much for me. Anyway, I agree with all of the reasons you mentioned in your post, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Also, please forgive me for saying so.... but, do get an AC foot your house!! You won't regret it!! Cheers!! 🙋🏻‍♂️😉🙏👍

I’m retired and only recently got back into being more active in photography. I shot 35mm SLR film cameras for decades and still use them occasionally along with medium format TLR cameras. Ten years ago I bought a Nikon D3300 DSLR then more recently a D5200 DSLR. So, since 1975 I’ve used reflex cameras and feel at home with them. The full frame mirrorless cameras do have some appeal to me, however - for example, seeing the live histogram, built in ND filters, etc. - but I will probably stay DSLR. Truth is, my old D5200 is a better camera than I am a photographer 😅

Well, I like small cameras. I've been using a Pentax K-S1 recently, which is one of the most compact DSLRs ever made. It's smaller and weighs less than a Micro Four Thirds OM-1, and it's about half the weight of my mirrorless behemoth Lumix S1R. And of course, those little Pentax-DA Limited lenses are a great match for the K-S1. It has a superb 100% coverage pentamirror viewfinder, good 20MP sensor, and IBIS. On a cross-body cord it's not burdensome, but it also doesn't look or feel like a dainty piece of jewelry.

Agree with you 😊 AI coming to mirrorless, so much for developing any photography skills. I still use film and have a darkroom with chemicals. That’s REAL photograhy. Not mindless photography, IMHO 💝

Or D850 and 5DIV still holding a good value and can be more expensive than a used mirrorless system, because they still kick a** !

@photographersfreedom So can you please help me with tips on how to shoot in bright daylight, adding flash for fill without overexposing my subject?? No ND filters! Or just tips to capture portraits using natural light??

@clementj789 I'm not a portrait photographer. Try Tony Northrup's book "Stunning Digital Photography." It has great tips for portraits. geni.us/JjZT7N5
