I purchased a Nikon D7000 DSLR in 2023 and here are my thoughts on Dslr vs Mirrorless Cameras. Are mirrorless cameras worth it? are dslr's done? In this video I talk about the pro's and con's of both systems and why I love my nikon d7000.
#nikon #photography #review
The d7000 in 2022 or 2023 or any of Nikon's dx crop sensor cameras are still a strong viable option to get yourself into photography without spending a fortune on new mirrorless systems like Canon rf and nikon z mount, or Sony e mount. The d7000 is similar in image quality to Nikons full frame cameras like the d850, d750, d810 and d780. Image quality will be on par with d500. enjoy this fun review video talking about camera comparisons.

I've been using (3) D7000's for the past 6-7 years; bought 'em all used...and instead of changing lenses, I pretty much marry a zoom to the bodies. ( Old newspaper PJ here. Anyway, I've shot a ton on this model: studio, on-location, commercially, ETC. It's a GREAT camera...IF you stay within it's "sweet spot", which ISN'T high ISOs anything. Like NEVER exceeding 3200. Unless you have Noiseless AI by Luminar NEO and Topaz Sharpen software to save your ass. My next body in a few months is a 7200 (x2), followed quickly by the 500. Within two years I'm making the leap to Nikon mirrorless. The great thing about the older DSLRs is that the majority are terrifically UNDER-used, at a significant discount. So I always buy from hobbyists/amateurs- and make them send me a shutter count. I buy from average Joes in other jobs- too busy between working 40, sleeping 40, etc. to cause too much wear/tear.

I've recently got back into photography from the old 35mm days with a D7000. I really appreciated your review. I feel like im working with an absolutely first class piece of equipment that gives you anything you could wish to achieve and learn the art and science of photography. But in a tactile human interaction way with those gorgeous buttons you mention instead of programming a computer menu. It's like peak analogue where u still had total authority over the software and feel more like a photographer using it. 👌

I managed to get a D810 from a professional who mainly used it in a studio so only had 7k shutter actuations. Now is the time to grab Dslr on the used market as people trade in for mirrorless. In 10-20 years this gear might be getting long in the tooth. By that stage a Z8 with Z lens might be cheap enough for a hobbyist like myself to play around with.

Great video. I bought the Nikon Z5 earlier this year, because I found 3 Z lenses on clearance at Best Buy and I couldn't refuse. The Z5 is a big upgrade over my D5100 that I've had for 10 years now. I still enjoy using DSLR camera and I decided to get another camera body along with the Z5. I bought a used D610 with a 50mm F1.4g for $550 USD. I love the size of the camera and image quality is still outstanding. When I go to work and when I have a break in between, I'll pull out my D610 to take photos with me and I really enjoy it.

absolutely! I still use a D3s w/ D300s but the shutter on an old D700 went out but i loved it, just cheaper to get a used 1 now. I', using DX again in macro / micro close up work. Adds some extra reach or air shows, plane spotting. The D3 is still a low light monster today.

Thank you for your time and thoughts. I still do own a D7000, bought it brand new, and it has been my pillar for photography fundamentals. It is a great prosumer tool and back in the day was compared as the poor sister of the legendary D4, with same MP count. As the consumer market has been turning to SLRs and TRLs cameras, it is even ironic that the average joe wants to get the greatest and latest. Finally, I also share your view: invest in lenses and in yourself to become a better photographer by the day.

Oh man, what a coincidence. I ordered a used D7000 for 100$ an hour ago. Also, I had it back in 2010, brand new. It has some not-very-strong sides, but overall it is such a solid camera, so usable, and so many well-placed buttons. I couldn't resist buying it again. Funny enough, I had sold my Canon 5dMk4 and 70-200 f4 IS to left the old 50D with 24-70 2.8 II (Just shot a full-blown wedding with it, and man, it still does the job!) Now adding Nikon and most probably will go with 50mm 1.8 D. That is pretty much what I need as a setup combined with 3 Speedlights and 2 Softboxes. Great video; thank you for sharing!

I agree, I picked up a used D7200 two years ago. It's still a great camera, feels comfortable to hold and the battery lasts all day. Plus Nikon has decades of F lenses you can pick up for much cheaper on the used market than any of the new Z lenses. You make a great point with the lighting too, learning to use flash and to set up lights is what makes the biggest difference to photography.

I shoot both and like my film cameras I use different cameras for different jobs. I have both a Micro Four Thirds system and a Pentax K5IIs. I got a bargain on my Pentax being a flagship camera with less than 5k clicks on the shutter. With my Pentax I love being able to go shoot with one battery and never have to worry about the battery life. I also find the AF works better in low light.

The best thing about mirrorless camera systems is that there is so much older gear available out there used. To cut through the BS about mirrorless, mirrorless is a financial life boat to keep the camera industry afloat. Smart phone cameras killed the bread and butter of the camera industry, the small consumer camera. Now, not only do you have to buy a new camera body, you have to buy into a whole new lens mount. I used to look down on people who had to have the newest gadget. Now I love them because I am able to get some really great used gear for as little as 10 cents on the original dollar. There is nothing wrong with using a DSLR today. They work fine. As for the D7000, I have four of them because I couldn't pass up a deal. I got a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8, in great condition for $150. So it doesn't have VR. We got along for decades without VR just fine. APSC vs full frame, I have both and prefer APSC. Don't write off that little 18-55mm zoom lens you got. It is sharp as all hell and can focus really really close. Notice how you never hear mirrorless promotors mention that a heavier camera body is easier to keep steady (no VR needed) over a light body. I always slap on a battery grip for the extra heft. This is a great time to get a high end DSLR and lenses for pennies.

Couldn't agree more. In fact I purchased my dream camera about a month ago that I could never afford when it was released. The Canon 1dx. When it was released it in 2012 it was a £6000 camera and I just got one with less than 31k clicks for £600. Of course mirror-less has it's advantages but so do DSLR's such as battery life and ruggedness.

Not watched your video yet, but i think, it's worth it. Good photographer making photos with their gear, in fact, amazing photos. Bad photographers are just buying the newest and newest stuff. The thing is, that companies just changed their marketing stuff, making you buy the newest stuff everytime, whereas you can still make as good work with "older" stuff, as you can make with those fancy new cameras, so yea, definitely worth it. It's worth it so much, that i'm going to buy a second Nikon D750, just for backup camera, because my main D750 already making me a lot of money, so yeah... :)

I won't in anyway shape of form call myself a pro photographer but I've owned a Nikon D7000 now for many years and I love it. I fitted it with an 18-270mm Tamron lens and I take it everywhere. I even took it to a cousins wedding once just to play around with it and learn how to use it like a pro. As it turned out most of my shots were better than the hired pro's photos. Yes I do agree that it doesn't take good video but I got a dedicated video camera for doing that. So for me as a novice photographer, it's perfect and I have no intention of replacing it. The funny thing is it's still running on the same battery since new and being recharged 100's of times.

With photographers who both enjoy the process and want great results, DSLRs aren't going anywhere. People may rely on their Sonys and whatnot for getting them almost any shot, but you hear conspicuously little about people actually enjoying using them. There are still going to be people who love the experience and capabilities that Old School DSLRs bring to the table, just as the rangefinder aficionados will keep loving their cameras. You can still buy new Pentax DSLRs, and they are gorgeously built, pleasure-to-use, and competent photography tools. Seriously, something like the K-3 Mark III may well satisfy anything I could want from a camera for at least the next ten years, and then some. Heck, with its tank-like build and the fine glass I can couple it with, it may even last me longer than that.

d7000s and 3000s, 5000s... all good and easy to handle. I don't need to see the photo if I have information in the photo camera about the result. the photos are sharp, the bpm is good enough, the auto focus is fast, the program is huge. I can't get better mirrorless photography results than a DSLR. I only do photos, I have an extra battery holder. You can never compare mobile photos with any DSLR camera if you want to take a good photo because it is not possible.

New sub here! The D7000 series in my opinion the best DSLR series in Nikon's crop DSLRs. When I was working in Radio and TV I shot on Full Frame Nikon and Canon rigs, while I loved shooting with them, they were a bit pricey for me in my non-professional life and when I wasn't working I was shooting on a Nikon D-90 DSLR and a Canon Rebel Film Camera. For Video I was shooting on either a Canon XL1 or the Sony XDCAM. I contemplated moving to a full frame system, but wasn't sure I wanted the expense, so I picked up the D5000, that little camera was actually really, really good. My wife isn't really into photography but she loved using it when we were at my daughter's softball games...unfortunately at one of those games is here my D5000 met it's demise. My wife had been using the camera at my daughters game and she's gets very, very emotional at games and well at point, during one of those emotional moments, she dropped my camera, it destroyed the zoom lens she was using and the mounting bracket on the camera. We got it repaired, but it just never seemed to operate the same after that. My wife felt so bad about the camera, that she bought me the D7200 that had just come out for christmas in 2015. The bundle came with two kit lenses and she bought me a Nifty-Fifty as well. This is the only camera I have used since. I have done street photography, portraits, events, real-estate shoots, product photography and drag racing. Not long after I got this camera, I picked up the sigma 18-35 1.8D art lens, I love this lens on the D7200 and in certain situations it does amazingly well for video. The downside to this great camera is it's not designed for run and gun typ shooting the AF sucks...I am looking to pick up the Z8 mainly for video, but I will not be letting go of my D7200. Glad you found your D7000 in such great condition. Enjoying your content by the way.

As someone who has toyed with photography for more than fifty years, and obviously I'm coming from film cameras, DSLRs are nothing short of a bloody miracle. Especially at the point when APS-C sensors hit 24 Mp and Nikon dropped the anti-aliasing filter. PCs and photo imaging software have kept pace with, and even greatly surpassed, anything you could ever hope do in a darkroom. Considering today's prices on "gently used" DSLR bodies, it makes no sense whatsoever not to have a separate body for just about every for every lens you own. Trying to change lenses on the street is a massive pain in the whatchamacallit. Then there's the possibility of drops and dust entering, so that by the time you manage to pull it off, the photo you wanted to take is long gone. Instead of a protracted rant about extremely aggressive marketing, exorbitant prices, and "forced obsolescence" imposed on DSLRs, by manufacturers selling mirrorless cameras, I'll just say "DSLR for the win, and forever".☝

Being focused on pics primarily, I'm happy with my two DSLRs.... one FF and one APSC. I wish that EF lenses were having a drastic drop in prices though... My suspicion is that most people who went to mirrorless purchased a RF-EF lens adapter and just continued on. - Mirrorless for me does not deliver the bang for the buck IQ (image quality) improvement that the price increase alludes to. People are still complaining about their mirrorless camera setup performance (making videos) .... Plus I'm not sure if adapting a lens converter would give the same results when using the same lenses on a mirrorless body.

I just bought a D7000, honestly exactly around the same time you did with a 50mm and a 18-200mm for about 500ish USD. I think I want to pick up a 35mm since when I used the 50mm at a comic convention I wasn't able to get the pictures I wanted since I couldn't back up far enough, so I couldn't get any group shots. Later when we went outside by the water I was able to get really cool portraits when I was able to back up with space. I think for just beginning with photography and learning the basics, I'm not out a lot of money if I don't really enjoy it, but so far I do enjoy it.

I have the D7100/D7000 bodies, and as much as they have perfect ergonomics, they still are heavy for my tasted, the D7100 is a little bit lighter, but still heavy. I think the D5xxx size maybe perfect size, and not a lot of compromise to the ergonomics. I wish Nikon ended their DSLR line up with a refined version of the D5xxx. Because it is their most usable and practical version with tilting articulating screen. If they only put their high end mirrorless processor in it for better tracking, eye tracking, and face focus performance, add 8fps or more, better performance in 4k video recording, a lightweight weather sealed body, an optional battery grip with high capacity battery, and an inbody image stabilization, it would have been the perfect DSLR. This would have been the best DSLR they've ever made. To date the closes to this idea is the Pentax K70, but with worse video performance, autofocus, and no battery grip.

The pool of available cameras is so huge, there's definitely something out there for everyone! And why shouldn't the DSLR be included. Having been mirrorless for many years, I bought a DSLR last year (purely for the sensor [Sigma Foveon] rather than any other reason) and rediscovered the joy of being able to put the camera to your eye, and seeing through the lens, without having to switch the camera on! However, the DSLR is heavy and bulky with a very noisy shutter!
@dansedran
@dansedran Год назад
I kinda like the shutter sound, its a good confirmation the photo was taken. BUT shutter slap and vibrations caused by it on longer exposures definitely give the win to mirrorless. True the dslrs are bulky and heavier but once you get biggee glass on there it helps balance everythig. All good points though and thanka for watching!

I started with mirrorless however enjoy the OVF experience. Pentax is still making them. The d7500 will be the last Nikon DSLR. I’ve been debating on picking one of those up. Some some reason I like to be the odd person who’s not shooting what everyone else is.

I went from two D750's (best allround DSLR for me ever) to two Z6II's since 2019. I enjoy the benefits of mirrorless, and can live with most of the disadvantages (you just buy more batteries). What remains problematic however, is shooting people moving in the dark. With my DSLR's, I just put up a flash on the camera and use it's AF assist lights red beam (or pattern) to make the camera see in the dark and focus like it's daylight. Of course, this only works in AF-S mode, so I would be tapping that AF-ON button like crazy. But it worked flawlessly. 90% or better hit rate. With mirrorless, that's impossible. Because that AF light on the flash is disabled. So you can't focus on people in the dark, like in a club or dancing during a wedding at night. The body tries to, because it bumps up ISO to its max to see in the dark. But high ISO is noisy, so it's more difficult to focus. And dynamic lights (club, spot lights...) still make some shapes and faces unrecognizable for the AF system of my mirrorless Z6II's. Which was no problem with the AF beam on the flash with the DSLR. The green AF light on the body is too bright and it spoils candid shots. So also not a solution. So in the end, I still need to bring one of my D750's for those scenes, with some F glass (35 F1.8 & 85 F1.8). It's frustrating. I don't understand why no brand has offered a solution. We can't just "give up talking candid pictures in the dark on events"? And I already rented a Z9 and although it was a bit better to find faces and hold on to people in the dark, it was still not the same keeper ratio as my D750 + SB-910 - about 30% and I need to shoot hundred of photos to increase my chances.... So yes, I can see myself buying a D780 or even a second hand D750 when my D750 dies. Because I have to.

I bought a Nikon D4 last year and it has been an amazing camera. DSLR's are far from dead, I am looking at either purchasing a used D700 or used D800 in the coming months. It's amazing these camera's can be had for under $500. I cannot even get a Z mount body for under $700 right now. Why would anyone wanting to just pickup the hobby every look into spending $2k plus on the Z mount system. You can spent $1k and get two fast primes and a good FX DSLR.

I ordered a D7000 last night after contemplating a D90. The improvements over the D90 are substantial though even though it was over twice the price. The D90 was selling for only £77 in excellent condition - a great buy for someone. I agree on all your points and have found myself with the 28 and 40 plastic lenses sitting on my Z7 such is the size of the other offerings.

When you think of all the amazingly sharp, vibrant pictures you saw in 2010, you have to remember those were shot on the DSLR's of the time. And they still hold up today. DSLR is absolutely worth it in 2023. As much as I loved my D 7100 back in the day, I would hesitate to go less than a D 750.

I can easily palm a basketball so I have big man hands, naturally I like the bigger chunky bodies as well. Ergonomics go a long way with me, more so than menu hunting. Some of these dslrs also gave a metal body frame inside. Built tough. I don't see myself going full mirrorless for a long time, top end DSLRs are still amazing and they are no longer $4000.
@dance2jam

First, I picked up my first camera (D700) 5 years ago for $300 USD. Still use the camera today. 2nd: Always depends on ergonomics, use case, budget, client/output (i.e. computer, cell phone, print), and the cost of your time. There were images in Travel Photographer of the Year generated by teenagers with cell phones that were truly amazing. So, no disagreement with your reasons for purchase and use. The only arguments I have against DSLRs, can be summed up in a few statements. 1. Top end mirrorless cameras for sports, wildlife, action are more efficient (both in time and image capture) - faster AF speed, more accurate AF - making lenses like the 105mm f/1.4 or 200mm f/2 - shot wide open much easier on the photographer and the subject (less fatiguing). 2. Additional near edge to edge focus points makes focus and recompose a thing of the past. 3. Frame rate - again, subject specific - but if shooting moving objects becomes important. 4. No black out shooting - see comment 3. 5. WYSIWYG EVF - see exposure and DOF (up to f/5.6) in the viewfinder - rare exposure errors). 6. Silent shooting - for performances, sports like golf, areas like museums or churches. 7. Customizable: switch things like subject detection on/off, AF-Area modes, or other important features with the touch of a programmed button. 8. Ability to repair - since they are no longer supported products. The high ISO grain on the Z9 (at 3000 or slightly above) is much more manageable - and small. D700 was monochromatic and pleasing. I won't even touch on video. Of course there are many more - but it all comes back to both what you shoot, what's important, and how valuable your time is (efficiency). As for Old legacy f-mount glass vs. modern day lenses for mirrorless: Pick one in your budget that fills your needs. You make some wonderful general points, but neglect certain things that may not be important to your style and subject matter, but would be for others. Things like speed of AF (better on many Z mount lenses) with the newer bodies. Correcting things like CA and LA which ultimately degrade an image from the standpoint of fidelity, acutance, color accuracy, tonal separation, sharpness and resolution. That's not to say there isn't great older glass, clearly there is. Just important to point out the benefit of some of the newer glass isn't all hype - i.e. coatings that limit flare, internal reflection, chromatic aberrations, etc. I still take out my D700 when I can kill time for fun. or want a camera to AF my 180mm f/2.8 lens (which I also bought used for about the same price as the body). My D850 remains on the shelf. My Z9 is with me for nearly everything - and as of today, I wouldn't have it any other way.

All excellent points in this! Agree that both systems have their place. Shot some motocross this weekend and could have used a couple more fps and bigger buffer. Tracking was surprisingly good though for an older camera(single point af) but battery life is unbeatable. Really does come down to what you are photographing though! Thanks for the reply!

I shoot with a Nikon D500 and the focusing points cover nearly the whole viewfinder. The focusing is blazing fast and accurate also. No need to focus and recompose or at least not for me. WYSIWYG is truly one fact that I don’t argue with but I don’t chimp either except to use my histogram. So far what I want is what I get which works for me with my photos so EVF might be a boon for some but not all. With Mirrorless it is WISIWICA or what I see is what I can’t afford. Being that they are smaller, less complicated etc then WOW why so darned expensive. For me to move to mirrorless and get a new camera and glass to replace what I have would put a serious dent in my bank account. I am a hobbyist so don’t earn money to pay for my equipment. Possibly if prices come out of the stratosphere back nearer to our planet it might be worth considering.
@dance2jam
@dance2jam Год назад
@@lesleyh2007 More power to you and if what you have works for you, no argument. There are a few points here that are worth exploring just a bit, since I also have shot lots with the D500. 1. As you are aware, the histogram is not terribly helpful because it is a composite of all channels (red, blue, green). You could potentially blow out the red channel - but the composite histogram (which you can view live in the EVF instead of having to review it on the LCD - chimp so to speak) looks fine. Sony added zebras in their EVF in stills (Nikon only has it in video in Z9/Z8 land). Many Sony shooters feel that this helps because they can dial in the sensitivity of this setting to approximate the RAW information instead of jpg. As I said previously, whatever works. 2. The D500 - sorry - doesn't have edge to edge AF Point coverage. Now, if you never need anything but the focus points you use, great. Having animal or human subject detection enabled allows the camera to find the eye far faster and anywhere in the frame - than I could move the camera or focus point. I have plenty of Ice Hockey photos from yesterday that would likely not have been possible otherwise. 3. Mirrorless is not necessarily lighter - The Z9 weighs more than the D500 and as much as the D850 w/vertical grip and D5 battery. The Z lens you pick, might be lighter, faster - f/stop and AF, and better balanced, and for some that will be another advantage. 4. Cost: Your assumption of the expense of changing over is a bit flawed. I switched to mirrorless 1 1/2 years ago. I do not own a single Z mount lens yet. So, there was no expense yet in new lenses. Aside from the camera, what advantages do I get then? As mentioned, AF Speed and Accuracy is much faster using all the f-mount glass I have including the 105mm f/1.4, 200mm f/2, and 600mm f/4. Nailing focus with a f/1.4 or getting focus quickly on the eye with handholding the 200mm f/2 (6.6 lbs) is much less fatiguing on the subject and photographer. When it comes to cost, I get it, and the perfect camera with specs and affordability may not yet be here for you. That said, there is the cost of time and inefficiency. If the joy you get from photography as a hobbyist is fulfilled where you are, then, for goodness sake, stay put. My comments are just for those that wonder if it is worth it. I shoot with many other hobbyists that use the Sony A1, Canon R3/R5, and Nikon Z9 and now Z8. I talked the previous DSLR shooters shooting the same cameras we are talking about into purchasing the Z9 when the time/money allowed. Some shoot wildlife. Some sports. Some action. I showed them my photos and explained what I thought the advantages were. They all moved and none of them pick up their DSLRs anymore - although they all said they would in the beginning. Nikon just wasn't there for the sports/action/wildlife shooter prior to the Z9/Z8. These are not the cameras for everyone, and their will be better models in the future - and trickle down features. But as Joel Edelman likes to say: Most of us have less time in front of us, then behind us - and you can't get time back.
@dance2jam
@dance2jam Год назад
@@dansedran Anytime. Prior to the Z9, Nikon mirrorless wasn't there for me. I shoot mostly sports, wildlife, action (dance). I jumped on the Nikon Z9 the first day it was offered, because I had made my list of specs over the prior 4 years of what the camera had to have for me to "need" it. I'm a hobbyist, but my time is valuable. Trips are expensive and I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. The Z9 and D700 are just completely different animals - as are the D850 and D500. There is a very large learning curve with Nikon mirrorless - perhaps much less intuitive than Sony and Canon. Hope this will improve in the future. I can look back at my DSLR files - and my mirrorless files - and realize what a huge difference it has made both in keepers and my photography. I'm not afraid to set my own WB now when I need to - and can see the results in the EVF immediately. You know all this, so my point is, that I still enjoy relaxing and taking the DSLRs out for a spin, and creating a digital image in camera hasn't changed all that much. Now, however, I can spend the time thinking about composition and framing without worrying if I can place the focus point there. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it.

@@dance2jam So very true with less time ahead than behind. That unfortunately is very true for a lot of us. You are correct with your observations on advantages of mirrorless focusing but I don’t presently feel too hampered by my DSLR yet. The one mirrorless camera that really interests me is the Z8. Right camera but a bit out of my price range for now. Who knows in the future though. If Nikon came out with a true mirrorless D500 with some of the advanced features of the Z9/Z8 that would be something to see and experience. By the way, I said the D500 has focus points that nearly cover the whole viewfinder. Not edge to edge but closer that most any other DSLR. Still I know mirrorless covers much more. Your comments are well taken by me. Being a hobbyist I find that I still enjoy my D500 but having said that, if/when a time comes that I find a mirrorless that suits my needs and style for a price I am willing to pay then it will happen. I know I can use my present lenses with the FTZ adapter but again the push is to use native Z mount lenses which again has a cost. Thanks for your reply. Good comments and observations by you.

I think you have to divide mirrorless into two camps, new with the AI tracking focus and old ones. I still use a 6D and 77D. I will eventually get a Mirrorless camera but am in no rush. My biggest grip is when shooting portraits with a continuous moving model and having to take care of placing an AF point on the eye and stopping down due to AF DOF issues with f1.4.

Strangely enough I just bought a DSLR from 2010 and another newer mirrorless. Getting back into photography (amateur stuff) I wanted to get a feel for things before maybe buying new. At the risk of inflaming things the explosion in still imaging tech was over by 2010, IMO. Increments have added up but there are some bargains that do plenty for many of us that do not have some very identified need only provided by newer. If you can focus and understand Exp/DoF and so on many can live without some new tech. I paid even less for the DSLR and throw in an also same era (very decent) standard zoom I am in for say US$220 that set up......Cards are dirt cheap and 1080p is done great. Yes, great glass is nice but it's cream that has a place. I drop it in a lake by accident I can move on very quickly.....The mirrorless is nice, but a near 600 page manual (not a top end one) I scratch my head at how I can do things so many ways (and why would I care)....Transitional tech and no complaints at price I paid ......................Choices

@@Iamgeoffw I thought so too but I did have my Z5 for a few months after purchasing the D700. It produces great images although it's an older sensor I found I don't have to edit as much with the RAW files that come out of the camera. You can push the ISO up to 3200 or 6400 & the noise is acceptable. I use DXO PhotoLab 6; it has the same functionality as the PureRaw program. Noise or grain (as I call it with the D700) is not an issue. I do have a high megapixel D810 & use it occasionally (a back up to the D700 most of the time!) but I find the D700 is the camera I use 95% of the time. The body is heavier but much more functional. Maybe purchase a D700 & see how you go, maybe keep your Z5 as a light carry around camera... P.S. Don't forget one has access to the older lenses; that FTZ adaptor on the Z5 is so cumbersome!

For the record the Nikon D850 still holds the best sensor built by Nikon, unless the DXO site is kidding sensor tests; the feeling of shooting with an optical viewfinder is much superior and I am speaking with knowledge of the facts, I have already tested the z9 and honestly for photographs I prefer the D850; the lighter camera weight argument has also fallen by the wayside, mirrorless camera batteries still make a photographer walk loaded with 3 or 4 of them; the F lenses are very good and you can always get them cheaper, unlike the Z lenses which cost a lot of money. By the way, I ordered another D850 yesterday, as mine already has a lot of shots and I'm afraid Nikon will remember to discontinue DSLRs, so I'm cautious.
