The Nikon D7000 in 2022. Is it still worth it ?

Back in 2010, the D7000 was considered as excellent. Twelve years later, is it an obsolete piece of equipment or a camera woth buying on the second hand market ?

Thank you for this excellent video. It is an honest and interesting assessment of the camera. I owned one but foolishly sold it for a full frame Canon. I just couldn’t relax and concentrate on my photography with the Canon as it was overly complicated. I’ve been lucky to get a D7000 again and it’s like finding an old friend! By the way, you’re absolutely right about pixel count. I’ve gone from 26 to the 16.2 of the D7000 and at A3 print size, you really can’t see a difference. Thanks for your video!

I bought my D7000 back in 2011, so happy with the performance it has given me. I'm happy to say I'm still using it. no need to buy another camera for now. Thank you for the great review Dan. John

I bought one in 2012 used for 500 Euros - use it all the time - never ever anything to complain or buy any other. The person using it is more important than the technology. Any simple machine can produce good images

Its 2024 now and I've been using the D7000 for some time. Mine has about 80000+ shutter actuations. Still works perfectly. Today I picked up a second one to have as a backup. 110 euros for mint sample with 20K actuations. I have no need to upgrade to anything better/bigger/newer as I rarely print my shots and if I do the D7000 pics can be printed way bigger than what I ever have need for. The newer cameras have faster processors and higher ISO but that is not important to me as I don't really encounter situations where that would be useful to me. I have shot film since 70's and have a pretty good selection of Nikon gear, several Nikon FE's, F3, couple of F4's and a F90X + largish selection of better Nikon manual lenses + maybe 5 Nikon autofocus lenses + loads of other Nikon gear. I have also used digital cameras ever since Apple Quicktake 100 was released. I bought a D50 new and used it for few years but when my Lumix point and shooters and bridge camera became good enough to produce better pics I abandoned it. So, few years later I wanted a Nikon DSRL to be able to use my Nikkor lenses again with a digital camera and D7000 seemed perfect for it. And it still is! I have no desire to upgrade it to anything so I bought a second one like I wrote above. They have become so cheap they are really a bargain!

Well, even though i'm younger than you, just imagine, it's 2005 and someone tells you that in 20 or so years, film cameras will be way more expensive than Digital cameras... That would seem like insanity and yet, here we are !

Great video ! Just bought one for £150 in mint condition with under 7k shutter count - I love this camera and chose it after first owning one about 18 months ago then sold it to try some others including a D90 , D300s and a D700. For me it's got a great spec and it's the right size and weight so I went full circle back to it and now I pretty sure it's staying put !

I bought my D7000 new in 2013 after the D7100 was introduced and the price of the D7000 fell , the internal flash fired in the closed position and damaged the electronics after the warranty ended and was sent for repair which turned out to be expensive and while it was away I bought a used D600 with a view to selling the D7000 on its return but after finding the value on its return I decided to keep it and 7 years later both cameras are still working great and should last for years yet. A excellent review of a outstanding camera which does not feel dated despite being introduced in 2010.

I really like this camera. I’ve owned one for about 5 years now(bought used). For me it works well with my lens F5.6 and up, but when I take portraits with f stops lower than f5.6, I get so much back focusing with auto focusing. So many of my subjects are out of focus. Even after I’ve gone and made micro adjustments with the the tool in the settings, or have changed the focusing modes. Doesn’t help if I use flash, or bump up the IOS to increase shutter speed. Other than that this camera is great. I love it with a wide angle for landscapes. If I could fix that one issue, this camera out be a 10/10 for me.
@MrAnalogDan12

did you try another lens ? Maybe this is the culprit
@SmealCo
@SmealCo Год назад
@@MrAnalogDan12 Yes. I meant to write lenses. Sorry for the confusion. Oops! I own four lenses, and all have the issue with the wide open apertures till about f5.6. Don’t get me wrong. I like my camera a lot. I wish I can just solve that one thing.
@jovicanedeljkovic1885
@jovicanedeljkovic1885 Год назад
@@SmealComaybe with a higher ISO and with a tripod, a slower shutter speed, a longer distance and a larger tele lens, a smaller distance with a fisheye, it all depends on how you need it, when you need it, and why you need it. The same is the case with newer and more advanced cameras.
@WLDefisher
@WLDefisher Год назад
Interesting... I noticed my d7000 has this focusing problem too. I never thought to check the issue at different apertures. I thought it was because I left the camera sitting in one place too long and also was a bit rough with it when traveling for a few years. I will try and test the focus at f5.6 and smaller apertures!

I've upgraded from my first DSLR D5100 and it's night and day difference, especially how soft the shutter mechanism is compared to D5100. Two of my go to lenses use screw AF and after manually focusing for months, I can genuinely appreciate this feature like people in 80s as well :D
@MrAnalogDan12

Don't know if I mentionned it in the video, but this one has been a favourite amongst sports and wildlife photographers, so you can't go wrong with a D7000. I need to ask a fried of mine to let me borrow his camera. He said it's over one million shutter actuations and still going on strong. Wait and see.

@XSFlanger

@@HoodSwami You have more dedicated controls under your fingers. Less time spent in menus. Also D7000 has much softer and reliable shutter, more focus points, twice as faster shutter and almost twice the battery life, higher quality viewfinder (pentaprisms are brighter in comparison to pentamirrors) and bunch more goodies like screw for AF etc. I'd switch without second thought.

I had one years ago to start at a photographyschool. Learned a lot from it. Sold it, still used a Nikon D300, sold that one too. Then went to m4/3. I have an Olympus E-M1 and some panasonics. The old GF1 and GX1. They brilliant little camera's, but the Olympus is annoying. I really don't like the menu and the images are often over-sharpened. So a week ago I put it up for sale and.....bought a Nikon D7000. Totally happy to shoot with this camera again. It was and still is e great camera.

Part of my wedding shot with this camera along with Nikon 70-200mm lens. Last month I went to African safari with same lens and shot over 2000 images. It took some amazing quality professional photos. So I have sentimental attachment to this camera. Though I bought it 9 years ago I never felt it low on spec even now. It can really compete with modern mid dslrs. It will be with me.

Excellent video , Dan and good to see the Nikon D7000 being given some praise . I bought it new in 2012 with its kit lens the 18-105mm - now I use a 16-85mm mostly though I do have a 12-24mm , a Tamron 90mm , couple of 70-300mm and loads of older Nikon lenses from my film days . I've had no problems getting poster sized photos with my D7000 , the resolution is fine and there's too much emphasis put on it anyway in my opinion . As happens to a lot of photographers I'm getting this gnawing feeling to upgrade to full-frame [ despite owning 35 full-frame film cameras !!! ] and the D750 , D810 and D850 are in my sights - thing is I can't choose and also I'm in love with my D7000 - if I do go full frame I'll always keep my D7000 , maybe even buy another now they're ridiculously cheap [ or invest in a D7100 which is better built than the D7200 ] - al these questions going through my head !!

Yes, of course, for me too the Nikon D7000 is an extremely good and practical camera, and maybe for an upgrad so is the Nikon D7100, but with a handgrip and an additional battery, i would suggest that it is a very good combination due to its practicality and longer battery life. It's my opinion.

it is a good photo camera even for sports with good glass and if we click at the right time. 5 photos per second is a satisfying speed. Photos are clear, contrast and color are as well. 16 MP is quite enough for a good photo. Let's be honest, better cameras wouldn't blow my mind with their greater perfection.
