We weren't born old...We worked in the fast pace city up north. Raised our children..saved our money.. Now we are retired, and we want to enjoy our life.. we like the villages..
We have lived in The Villages for 14 years. We enjoy the safety it provides. I can walk around the neighborhood with no worries . We have Community Watch that drives thru on a regular schedule. Folks watch out for each other. People wave or stop to say hello as they drive their golf carts You çan drive your golf cart to stores, restaurants and medical buildings. Weather is perfect ,no snow or sleet . Yes there are bad apples ,that is the same everywhere you may live. We have several fire stations,a hospital and police. The fact that there are over 3,000 clubs allows seniors to keep mind and body busy and healthy. Don’t forget the many golf courses at fantastic low fee.
Sounds lovely there’s nothing wrong with it. You save up your whole life and you retire somewhere. It sounds nice having safety when you retire you deserve it. Anyone who takes care of their finances could do something like that
Hi Lauren Sweeney I am turning 55 would I be too young to live there should I move there I can't take the cold ice cold snow living up here do you really recommend I really need to know how is it there is it really nice and safe or is that just publicity it's not gated so how do they keep the criminals out I heard Florida has lots of criminals and high crime anyway I was thinking about living in a gated community because I thought it would be safer but the villages seems very nice with all the activities would I be able to meet any gentleman there I'm still attractive blonde I look much younger than my age but everybody seems like they're 80 years old there and I'm only 55 and I'm a young 55 I look like 40 what would I have in common with these old people
I live about 30 minutes away and go there occasionally to shop. It is very clean, all landscaping is neat, and I like holding doors for people and hearing, “Thank you, young man.” I am 58😀 Also, it ain’t cheap to buy a house there, so there’s that.
Houses are around 200,000.00 to a million. The average is in the 300s. People who have owned a home for years, up north, can pay cash for houses in The Villages after they sell their other house.
@@airstreamingypsyEspecially if they lived in places like New York, Long Island, Jersey, Boston, places where property values are so crazy high that they can come down here and pay cash for a larger place than they had up north.
I watched another RU-vid video where the guy outlined some of the financial issues. With so many hurricanes in the past couple of years, home insurance is skyrocketing and over a dozen insurance companies have pulled out of the state altogether. Property taxes also escalating tho likely still a lot less than in the northeast. Also if you haven’t lived in a community with HOA rules and regs be sure you know all the power they have if you step out of line. Myself I’d never live there. The guy in this video said people who think they made a mistake moving there are heading to the communities in the coastal Carolinas.
I've lived in The Villages for almost a year. I love it here! I'm 61, been single a very long while, and have met so many wonderful people that have become my family. I can't say enough positive things. I live in Brownwood and it's a ball! If you're bored here in The Villages then you're a tree Stump because if you can think of it, it's here to do. The softball fields are amazing w 150 teams, polo, all manner of pool sports, court sports, archery, shooting ranges, wood shops, RC car and boat race facilities, miles and miles of walking trails, literally anything you want is here and you make life here what you want it to be. It's not inexpensive but what is nowadays? You get what you pay for.
I do believe that was by far the most evenhanded informative and enjoyable view of The Villages I have seen so far. I could never live in a place like that but I think it's fantastic that it's there for those who enjoy that lifestyle!
Yes the drugged up idiots who life in a Disney style village... remember the globalist are going for the old & sick first...this feels like an institution ikea what Hitler convinced they took the Jews a work Kamp #Arbeit Macht Stark" Remember the US government put the Native Indians on reservation. The Japanese in kamps..Lear the true American History not the one they been feeding us prayers 🙏 are needed for sanity 🙏
We bought a house in the Villages last year- it’s wonderful. There are lower priced homes at the North end, and the neighbors are warm, friendly and helpful. People stop on their golf carts and while walking to say hello or have a conversation. I’ve “heard” that the farther south you go, the less friendly people are but I’m not sure if that’s true or not. It feels very safe here- like the rest of the USA used to be before the 2000’s (in most cities). We have NEVER EVER seen anything inappropriate here- but we also don’t go looking for it. I’m sure with just about any place on earth, if you’re looking for something, you’ll find it eventually. The only thing you have to be mindful of are the drivers, unfortunately. Since we’ve been here there have been a few fatal accidents involving pedestrians and golf carts. We happened to stumble upon this place almost by accident and we never thought in a million years we would be able to buy here, but we could and did. I honestly wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the country with the way things are going. Lots and lots of retired military here as well- so if you’re retiring or a grown army brat like myself, you’ll LOVE IT.
I live by tuscawilla park,I love here.they have lobster tail 3 times a week at the clubhouse at Ocala Palm's golf and country club.they call it slowcala here..see ya,stay safe and have fun. I survived an anuryism and spent 4 weeks in the VA hospital last year.it came with some temporary dimentia.ive been fighting hard and almost back to normal except my right eye I have double vision and I wear a patch over it.i have to tell people all the time not to cause me any stress because that's one of the main causes.smoking also which I quit and feel 100 percent better. See ya prayers and stay safe
My grandparents have lived there all my life. It’s not some strange simulated place. It’s just a large retirement community where you can get to anything you need at the reach of a golf cart wheel.
I'm very happy to stay in the home where we raised our family. My lifelong friends and extended family are the people who I want to spend my time with. My husband and I are still part of the workforce and are quite happy where we are. No thanks to 'The Villages'
Karen, glad you are happy where you are and have family nearby. Our 8 kids and extended families are scattered. They love visiting us in central Florida. We got more visitors in the last year than the previous 9 put together.

Anyone of any age can BUY a home in the villages. The deed restrictions apply to who LIVES in the home. Anyone or any legal entity can own a home there and rent it out.
@@yokootersmellfunky I think that would be called investing in real estate. Yes they do control things but that also means they have certain expectations when it comes to lawn care and general upkeep of your home. That in turn means the guy next door can't let his yard and home go which would mean your home's value goes down. If you are someone who generally doesn't give a crap about your lawn or how your house looks then you might want to look elsewhere.
I find it so interesting reading the comments from people on here they're also negative and judgmental you know what you can live wherever the hell you want to live. It's not a real expensive place it's a good value I visited somebody there once to each his own go his own go live in a trailer in Fort Myers if that makes you happy
Reading all the comments, well, we all have a choice where we want to live until... whether being happy paying for all the amenities, etc, or living near the beach. It all comes to one thing: just do what is going to make you happy. Btw, I don't live there, but I heard about it and was doing my research on everything that was mentioned on many comments before reading them. Stay safe!🙏
i am living in the villages 3 years now...........its is great, and if your a golfer. have fun on the 99 golf courses to choose from...............oh and there are Gators everywhere..........🐊
I would go insane living in an environment such as this. My sister would love it. She is extremely social. I am a homebody and enjoy a quiet life. Just sayin depends on what is important for each individual.
I'm surprised. My experience dealing with parents who lived in retirement villages is that these places tend to be little snake pits of cliques, backbiting and gossip, petty jealousies and golddiggers on the prowl. All I could do is roll my eyes since I'm not the one living there. I certainly hope The Villages are immune from these terrible human failings.
I wish I could afford living there. It's actually a community where people get together and do great activities they love. This should be everywhere. Solidarity is the key. This is how retirement should be EVERYWHERE.
It is not going to be the place to live in 10 years. One problem is climate change and that will only get worse. Nothing like sitting in your home for 2 weeks with 90* temp with no electric. Then good luck trying to find someone who will help your fix your home if damaged. In fact, every homeowners insurance company still in FL said if a hurricane come to the state in the next 3 years they cannot pay out. Also since your Governor kicked out all illegals, I hope you are ready to step to do the job yourself, since conseratives keep screaming illegals take other people jobs. Well now all those $10.00 hour jobs have to be filled by someone.
Politics in the US is now a problem. You cannot give your opinion. I do not live in the Villages but would like to. Just once, without someone jumping down my throat and shutting me down, I would like to have an opinion. Freedom of Speech died somewhere in the past 20-30 years in VA.
So interesting such a narrow view 0f 55 plUS communities . . Age is zero factor when you have a sizeable population there will be a fringe of wild ones..but that all the more makes this community reflective of human nature. Compare the % of incidents to any other smaller city with 132k population...perhaps the same. What is extraordinary is that all inclusive community from ease to exercise plus shops all in one community facilitates one thing..allows the elderly to connect and have friends plus ease of groceries and other needs. Remember the elderly do not want to be isolated or have family have to care for them. They want independence if possible and this community its meets those needs. To try and compare with any other community you totally miss the purpose as they living their last years of their lives...why not enjoy living in a community that brings them such joy and connections...all share same fate ... last road of their lives. Why not dance and laugh connect with new friends,,such joy so obvious as compared to living in other communities that is a challenge to navigate traffic just to get groceries. Lumping the elderly with all ages is to miss the purpose...achieving independence and connections with others is key. Traditional communities do not offer and places pressure on the elderly just to survive. The Villages provides an ease of living and respects independence ... so important for them. I applaud this community for attention to every detail to meet their needs.
My in-laws lived there for 8 years. They liked it a lot, but it got too crowded. Also, they wanted to be closer the rest of the family. They couldn’t give up the golf cart though.
@@VetteGuy57 It's horribly crowded in the winter when they snowbirds are her. Traffic is terrible. Restaurants are packed..... The Villages has doubled in size, so twice the people and the same restaurants and main roads. The squares are packed every night.......
This is pretty much accurate. I've worked in the Villages, from time to time, over the years. Do be aware, however, that there are a great many people there, who feel that they are very entitled.
By the time you buy a house, pay the taxes and all the fees along with normal living costs you need an average of at the very least $63,000 at a minimum yearly. Most Americans wait their whole life for their “Retirement”, but the villages comes with a very high price tag
@@StreetN1ckel “The Villages Newcomers”, a popular RU-vid channel about life there, did an episode on what it costs to live there. Mortgage, various insurance, utilities, food, etc. A pretty complete budget. It came to over $60k. But I would say most of those costs are everywhere. There are only a couple things that are exclusive to there - the amenity fee (a reasonable $179/mo), the “bond” (about a thousand a year). The rest is just normal stuff you pay wherever you live.
If you pay off your home you can live a nice life here for a lot less. Of course, if you have the need of a new car every year or two... and just have to eat out 3-4 times a week with a few drinks thrown in... you might have a problem of your own making.
I wonder how many negative commenters have ever been to the Villages. I do not live there but I live close by and I have relatives living there. It has expensive living and not so expensive living properties. If you are happy with being an active senior it is a paradise. The place is self sufficient has everything any one could want in living an active life style. I go there to listen to what I love, live music. There is several different choices of Locations and music styles. The speed limit is 35mph most every where. That is why the Golf carts are best. They are also cheap transportation and mostly avoids traffic. Though many think the rules of the road does not apply to Golf Carts. Not true. You will get a ticket for breaking the rules just like auto drivers. The developers are making a fortune of course. That's what they do, but they are also making a lifestyle that is appealing to the older but younger class. If you are curious it is easy to go there and even stay for a short period and check it out. Of course they will try to sell you on the place. That's what they do. I am a firm believer in make up your' own mind. Take little stock in what other people tell you about anything. It can be a paradise. Over 35 square miles of living the life and always expanding. I repeat just about any thing you could ever want is there for you!
@@airstreamingypsy No one has to live there. If diversity is such an important factor for you and you prefer not to live there for its lack of diversity, so be it. There are lots of diversified neighborhoods all over the planet. I never researched the percentage of races living on a street while searching for property. How old are you anyway. 9 or 10.
I'd rather be shot dead than live in a place like that, but I can certainly understand why a lot of other people would find it to be heaven on earth in retirement. Different strokes for different folks.
@@ralphholiman7401 Boring? They have Golf, Movie Theaters, etc and plenty of others things to do. It's like many towns in California. Carmel California comes to mind.
As a senior, probably THE thing that bothers me the most about The Villages is that it is typically American in that many people in this country can never seem to stop gorging on a " good thing ". It's the equivalent of living as a Costco customer in every possible way. It's (admittedly of necessity) a HELL OF A LOT of a good thing. I live in northern Florida and I actually like the randomness. The ability to find farm fresh vegetables a mere 20-30 minutes from my kitchen. My sister and bil live an hour or two south of The Villages in a community built around a golf course. No houses that conform to " A Look ", no endless facilities for the latest fads in sports, and yet, being a senior oriented community, few children. To me, The Villages comes across as a more regimented community than the one used as the setting for the British tv show The Prisoner.
Lol I get that. When you're different you're different, and finding the niche of the type of different that are, isn't so easy. I basically just fell back into what I should have already known is not for me, since high school. Coalition of cluelessness, and cowardly bullies wickedness. Yet alot beyond me, us all, was involved with that happening to me. Must see me as outrageously strong, but I think that forget that I'm human, dealing with dehumanized egomaniac narcissistic blindness snowflakes. It's all because suppose that people grow up, mature independently on their own. No, remain the same way, including about the cliques behaviors. Need too much social reassurances of ownselves. My ex husband and I used to talk about that too. Marriages that need too much social life to be able to stand each other, and stay together. He stated that himself, but then didn't practice what he preached about too many types of topics. Eventually that wears down no matter how much love them, because invalidated all marital vows, because I obeyed everything that he told me that he didn't like a wife to be like. Seems all of that didn't matter, only looking like I was twenty five years old for the rest of my life, is what mattered. Shallow superficial narcissism blindness hatefulness towards me ongoing destructive effects here. Well, you know what, my mind matters more than anything else to God. Anything out to destroy me, is mentally blinded, and out to destroy ownselves in return. Easy, through own egomaniac narcissism dehumanized agenda, with the added plus of the ongoing effects of the universe upon Earth.
The villages bought up almost all the cattle and farming land in our county and displace the native citizens. The infrastructure is not there, so the traffic is horrendous. What used to be a quick 5 minute drive to town is now 30 minutes. When the Villages began to build in Sumter County, a promise was made to the citizens of Sumter (Sum-ter), there is no "N" in Sumter, County that they would only build to a certain point in the county, but they have gone way beyond that point. In fact they started in the north end of the county and are now buying land and building in the south end of the county. They have taken over the government and silenced the voices of the people that have lived there all their lives. Everything that takes place in the county now is controlled by the Villages. The old towns are being consumed and replaced by the Villages with no concern for the people that are native to the county. Sumter County was a quite peaceful place with low crime. It was a farming and cattle area. It was a great place to raise a family. It is sad to see the destruction of so many beautiful oak trees, rolling pastures, as well as, the precious southern communities.
They don't care how important farming and livestock is , they just see 💸💸💸 . If this facade is America's identity ,, I sure don't want to be part of it .
Organizations and companies that build places like the Villages or subdivisions in general, theme parks, shopping malls, etc have to get all sorts of permissions from local and state governments do they not? A lot of what you're criticizing them for is to be expected by that type of organization/company. That's what they do. The real blame for the changing landscape though lies at the feet of your local government authorities/councils for allowing them to do it. If they didn't give them the ability to buy up all that land without restriction based on some type of zoning or building permits then they couldn't do it. I'd be more upset with them than anybody.
@@vickster4474 Oh believe me we are. They bought bought off the ones they could and the few that stood up were replaced with their people in elections. They changed the zoning which gave them more commissioners than the rest of the county. It's just sad how money and greed corrupts so many people.
It freezes there - which once upon a time until the freeze in the 1980s killed them all - the Villages was entirely acre after acre of citrus groves. No homes - just miles of groves.
This was a really great video- and I've seen a lot of videos at this point about The Villages. My take is that I previously wanted to retire in a quiet country cabin to retreat to. Now that my husband and I have heard of the Villages, we're obsessed with this idea of making lots of friends, joining countless clubs with similar interests, keeping active and healthy trying out all kinds of sports and activities. If you think about it, this is a utopia because you can stay fit and healthy and have fun while enjoying social activities as well. If we would live in a quiet country cabin who knows if we'd be as active or social (probably not). These are #1 goals to age well and not be isolated and lonely and always going to the doctor for multiple health reasons. We're going to retire in about 10 years, and very much looking forward to the possibility of living at The Villages.
I live Beachside I thought about moving to the Villages but as of right now if you look at the prices of the houses they are like $500,000 and UP plus the HOA FEES are way to high and your neighbor is only 6 ft away from your house..I get it HOA is to keep everything nice looking but after looking at the houses and the HOA fees on the real estate sites you would have to move there with at least a million dollars plus your Social Security and your pension to survive..And for me I would hate living in the middle of the state maybe I'm just a beach and ocean person I'll stay beachside for now..As long as people come the owners will keep building in a couple years it will be bigger than Disney World..If you can deal with the HOA rules and regulations that's cool but make sure you read the regulation book before moving in..🥂🥂🍷🍾🥂🥂 keep the party going you only live once...😎😏🌞🌞🌞
Been reading the comments. Whatever happened to people being able to have a different point of view? The animosity between Democrats and Republicans abhorrent. I was brought up that 2 things you never argue about, Politics, and Religion, you just agreed to differ.
If you can’t afford the Villages, move to suspect neighbor hoods. Check with the local police, virtually no shootings, rapes, robberies, scams etc. people are the way they have lived. You can take a bear out of the woods, but you can’t take the woods out of a bear. Go where it’s comfortable for you and cheer up.
I’m a little bit obsessed with the Villages. My cousins live there and love it. I heard it’s super Trumpy and straight so I guess I’ll retire to Wilton Manors with the other old gays lol 😂
Lol I work at a restaurant in wilton Manors called the alchemist. I'm straight but I like it there because everyone for the most part is nice and people aren't constantly shoving their political views in your face. I'm only 32 but I'd rather stay in WM than the villages
I live in NYC my building has 2000 people in it and yes NY has a concentration camp! Everybody is so busy obsessing over Ukraine that they don't care what is happening here,. That looks like a nice change of pace for us! I am used to crowds but everybody complains that the villages are crowded! LOL! Not as far as I am concerned! Not true lol. A coworkers parents lived there. The mother volunteered at a clinic. The mother told her daughter, (my coworker), she was shocked at the number of people being seen at the clinic for STI's lol.
I was waiting for it and you didn't disappoint. Immediately after the Trump segment, you used the word 'infamy' as a lead-in to another segment, a not-so-subtle suggestion that what you just heard about (Trump) was to be considered as a previously mentioned INfamous Villages trait. FAIL.
Love this, you are accurate on all points, we live here, however, pleeeeese change the music to something just a tenge more hip…please.? The soundtrack sounds like something from a 1942 dance class. That is not the vibe here. You got everything right but the vibe. Tks.
I live 13 miles from The Villages, and trust me, the story about Granny having public sex is only one of many similar stories. Did you expect anyone who lives there to say, "Yeah, we have massive swing parties every night!" ? The mantra seems to be that if you meet someone you are seriously interested in, you both agree to get a blood test.
They talk about all the activities except all the swinger parties haha. It’s like college parties except they end before midnight 😂 if it was legal to sell viagra on the street you’d be rich.
My brother in-laws mother lives there. It's crazy. It's a secured area by check in stations, no riff raff. There are little themed villages, bars, restaurants, grocery stores. Live music at the village square. It's really generic, not a lot of character to the homes or grounds. Everything is new. That's great for retirees. No potholes, no speeding. It has very few Democrats which make it pretty safe.
Oh yeah, like all those insurrectionist Democrats that stormed the capital, chanting hang Mike Pence, beating the Capitol Police, vandalizing the Capitol building ,yeah those Democrats ,oh wait a minute, I don't think they were Democrats, you asshole.
We all outlive our savings should be our national mantra...places like this are all sunshine and roses, until they're not.. too many folks live well beyond their means...
I just learned about The Villages this year as I was driving to Orlando for work. I thought it was just a giant golf course. Then I found out some of my retired neighbors are moving there permanently.
Searched the country after 32 years living in the northeast. Returned to the villages and rented briefly. Couldn't believe it was all real. Purchased a preowned home in oct 2019 and love it. It real, clean. Safe. Friendly and we are glad to be here.
I live 30 minutes from the villages… We go down to Restaurants and free Music Nights. It truly beautiful and they have the BEST Medical Offices🩺 around. It’s demanded! Republicans as “Regular people” tend to have the most “honest” wealth. So they enjoy their wealth and demand the best! And will pay for that! They tend to be happy positive people. (Unlike the other side) walk down any street you can tell the positive people from the Negative. Trump supporters tend to be very positive happy people.😊
@@janmariehallpolastry7966 I have been to two trump rallies and have spent countless weeks in the villages. Both have similar demographics: 1/3 angry, 1/3 angry and delusional and 1/3 happy - only if they are not confronted with someone different than themselves.
One reason for the view that they are just a group,of older folks boinking each other is due to the reported high number of stances of venereal disease, including aids and herpes.
