Been here over 12 years and it is not what it seems. This is a high density development and gets overbearing in the winter months with the snow birds. Traffic congestion, long lines, crowded facilities, hard to get tee times, goofy Community Development Districts system (CDDs) that favors the developer-family, increasing fees and taxes and an aging population with decreasing physical and mental abilities (yeah no one is getting younger here) making it a challenging environment. One last thought, ever see anything get better once it got bigger and more popular? Buyer beware. You have been warned.
Robster- I feel so baldly for you. You shouldn’t live anywhere that makes you feel this way. I moved to The Villages- Fenney in June 2020 and LOVE LOVE LOVE it more every day. This AMAZING community is far better, safer, more affordable, more exciting, more social, more beautiful than any other planned community- 55+ or not. I feel so unbelievably BLESSED to be here- if you don’t feel the same, you need to find somewhere that makes you feel grateful to be a resident!!
We have been here in The Villages for about 3 years, it has been wonderful. Glad you put those goofy STD rumors to rest. Most people we have met are hard working retired professionals that are glad to have the resources and good fortune at this point in their lives to be able to have a good time in their golden years.
Hard working and retired does NOT take away that it is indeed swimming with STDs even though the thought of two old people having sex makes my weenie go south real fast.
@Hury Springerwell, excuse me. Yes some of us were hard working before we retired. But they're quite a few that are still working and living in the community.
Thanks Katrin, great info. I'll be making my move to either the Villages or On Top of The World in Ocala next year. I have 3 visits scheduled in July, August and October. Thanks again, I'm subscribed.

@@zollar98 I don't agree, you're listening to the left media. Not everyone is welcomed anywhere. I'm a devout Christian and people make fun of me because of my beliefs. Don't believe the rhetoric. Saying that, there will also be people there that will like you for who you are
Just subscribed bc we are planning on retiring soon. Coming from beach cities in SoCal, we maybe more incline to seek property near water. We will see.
We have lived in The Villages for 9 years having moved from Tampa. The quality of life is amazing. There are so many activities you will never be bored. The rumors are ridiculous. Don’t believe them.
@@katrinreal You are absolutely right. It’s not in a metro area and is in central Florida. Also, not everyone wants to live in a 55+ community. We don’t miss the traffic in Tampa. The main positive in The Villages, besides all the activities, is it is a active population.
I know people up there and they like the setup. Although its not my cup of tea. Most of my "Village people" are from the NYC area and hate yard work and are accustomed to be surrounded by people. I tell them for what they paid they could have bought a nice home in my area of Charlotte county.
They should have more pubic public transportation for those who can't drive. Golf cart dependent is better than a car dependent area. But still not the best. The elders are so cute though, they are living it up over there.
The town squares are open to all people- don’t have to be a Village resident so locals will party there and I’m sure a lot of hookups, but your average Village resident older married and too busy with the activities and lifestyle. I’ve been here 5 years married I’m 64, overall nice people, nice place
Speaking of STDS, I visited The Villages and told my daughter in law, that's the type of place I'd like to live at. She told me about the reports on that STDS. I told her, anyone can catch that anyplace if you're going to be hanging around with everyone in the neighborhood.... I have friends who live there and love it. I'd love to if home prices were in my favor... To everyone, stay safe, healthy and Blessed! 🙏
@KATRIN I'm sure it is. Problem is with people. When they see a nice place growing and prosperous, they're sure to want to bring it down out of jealousy. Sad world 😔 I still would love to live there.
i enjoyed this video. Since a good friend of mine moved The Villages 10 years ago, I have visited her several times there. In just those 10 years, The Villages has grown significantly in size. The developer has a lot of vacant land to still build on, and the homes will continue to be built for several years. As my friend said, if you are considering moving to a 55+ community, ask questions & do your homework. She loves living in The Villages, but she said it's not for everyone, and like every community it has it's pluses and minuses.
Laura -Those are great insights you are sharing with us. Thank you! Yes, I know many people that absolutely love it there or disliked it so much they moved out after a few years and came to Sarasota :). It isn't for everyone that is for sure. No place is...that's why it is always a great idea to spend some time in an area prior to making the decision to move there.
@The Speckled Egg I am visiting The Villages again in May. Lots of changes there since my previous visit in July, 2021. Fingers crossed 🤞 I will be retiring in December, 2024. Next stop may be The Villages...it is still on my short list of places to move to after retirement.
Great overview of The Villages and the right amount of detail Katrin! The multi-generation feel of Lakewood Ranch is still more attractive for me, and the average age of people in the video confirms it for me.
@Lily’s Gram Funny you mention that. My daughter took me to see The Villages. There was an Automobile Show that day. Two elderly men walked by me and I asked them "Which car do you want?" Their reply amazed me. They told me, "Who wants a car, when we can walk?" 😂
@@katrinreal sounds like fun. You have a good way with people, I’m sure you’re a great realtor, but you’re a great RU-vidr, I love your channel and content!
Anyway to test drive living in the Villages? I'd like to rent there for a month or so to get a feel for it. Don't want to jump in head-first just yet. I have heard too many sad stories of people moving to Florida in which the reality was diametrically opposed to the romance. 🥰😝
Thanks for telling me. I know...I am having equipment issues and i am not sure why it is happening argh. Were you able to understand me though? I hope so !!!
I looked at The Villages in the early 90s and could not get a straight answer on how they intended to control its growth. The original concept seemed interesting, but exactly what I was concerned about happened -- It got way too big too fast. And now its way too crowded with both people and traffic. Plus as planned there is absolutely No Diversity whatsoever which for me was a probable deal breaker from the start.
You should take a trip there and explore sometime. It is hard to describe the place but "big daycare center for retired people" is about 180 degrees from what it actually is.

Driving a convertible from T.V. to the beaches (both coasts) in an hour or so, a hardship?... Plus, we don't fear Hurricanes, or the spendy H. insurance policies....

Good to know. Some youtube video mentioned it was a long drive to the beaches on the atlantic & the gulf, maybe close to a 2 hour ride. Probably too far to go very often.
Interesting discussion. I admire The Villages from a marketing standpoint. It gives most American seniors what they want and need in terms of safety, amenities, social life, and services. Not a bad thing. Towns and cities can learn from the Villages. But it's not for me. I don't like Florida weather from March 1 to November 30. I prefer more cultural variety, more temperate climate, and genuine urbanism.
To each there own. It is not for everybody but sure glad I found it. I saw genuine urbanism in action working in Kenosha and living around Milwaukee. Not for me. Being Hispanic the “cultural variety” seems fine to me
@@lowridinpackerI’m in Green Bay. My friends and I used to go to Milwaukee to shop, for years! We don’t go there anymore. Way too much crime, and scary people. Granted, I am older, but I try to stay away from bad elements.
We spent a week there in June, then 3 days at Disney World, and we thought DW was much dirtier. Was seriously surprised considering how clean our home park, Disneyland, always is. Loved The Villages!
@@catsaretasty Yea really. We don't like boomers. They like freedom and free speech and they worked their whole life without a phone in their hands. They like lower prices and lower gas prices. They hate criminals and they don't like BLM or Antifa. Yea , those boomers need to go . Strange, but I grew older everyday and now I'm a boomer. Your kind aren't too bright. I hope you love communism.
No, I don't believe it that std is rampant in the Villages. It is common sense it would be more of an issue in younger communities. Probably started by someone with a radical left attitude because the Villages tends to be a conservative community.
The rude lady in the cart is just that. We are distracted and annoyed by her constant interruptions. I am so glad she was not there for long as the video was such fun. Good job.

@@katrinreal Just about any church is available in the area. We go to Village View on the north side. But if you Google churches you will come up with a list.
I guess I got the wrong neighborhood or something … my neighbors are horrible in the villages. Nosey, trespassing, mad at the world, drunks, pill heads !!
Diggin the ladies that have discovered freedom from car dependency, through owning a golf cart. Catrike (Big Cat Human Powered Vehicles) in Orlando, should design a practical electric assist pedal powered golf cart. And get rid of the ones you don't have to pedal. Then they'd have much healthier aging populace in the Villages. Unless of course their too lazy to pedal and will just go back to their stink tins (cars). But why would they pass up on a healthier lifestyle? If boomers would have listened to me at any time in last 40 years, the villages would be over run with bikes and all seniors would be as sexy as your truly.
It sounds awful to me. Maybe I just don’t like people that much, I don’t know. It seems too cookie cutter. I definitely like diversity and don’t see much there.
They should also have a speed limiter. Too many nearsighted people with slow reactions tear about in them. I have a friend who lives in Springhill and she says the golf cart users are crazy.
Might suggest editing the politically oriented, anachronistic, picture s on a golf cart. No point in alienating the majority of your viewership by promoting the past. Poor marketing judgement.
@@katrinreal Katrin, I can't help but think that a picture that included a confederate flag and a Trump sticker side by side may not be the marketing message you seek. Why risk it, when a clear windshield would have sufficed. Similar (maybe a stretch) to Dunkin Donuts not using the morbidly obese in their ads. Not the message they want to send.
White Disney Land totally Republican most Blacks are Democratic . The Balcks have a much better version Cape Cod for Blacks. As you see I think this is ridiculous. The Village oeople. YMCA.

I can't help but think you were subliminally sticking in anti-President Trump messaging at 9:18. I'm in The Villages often...looking for investments. What you were insinuating at 9:18 is sickening. Go away.
I don't know what is sickening being honest? I did my research and have spoken to plenty of people in the Villages. Some people will love it there, others not so much. That goes for any place in the world.
@@katrinreal You're completely side-stepping what I'm talking about. The Villages is spectacular. Like Disney, its a creation from the brilliant mind of one man. The biggest message he wanted to spread about The Villages is the fact that its that "American Dream" that's very very real...but never talked about with younger people anymore. Its popular because the people there love their country and love our system. What you were doing at 9:18 was spewing hate that was evident with ONE misleading clip. You are posing as a nice realtor fraudulently patronizing RU-vid viewers who may have not caught what you are, a fraud and you need to go away. Please, take your globalist hate back to the toxic waste dump you know as New York...and leave us alone. You are not welcome there. (Some of your voiceover, too, was very telling of who you are.) Stop.
There’s at least two or three clubs that Asian Americans have created. There’s an Asian American who also gives free tai chi lessons by the lake. There at least two possibly a lot more clubs that I don’t know of that are for black Americans that they create it themselves I believe one’s called Black or African-American gentleman but I forgot the exact name.
I do love the classic car show. It's not all bad. I'm just partial to the ocean and my old lady likes to sun herself. Me: I'm a whale and she is 30 years younger. I love her and worship the ground she lays on. Golfing and drinking is not her thing. Mine either.
