Wolverine’s statement, “someone he loved” was most definitely referring to Erik. No doubt in my mind. Even the first time I saw this film with no background/biases whatsoever this much was obvious to me in the context. I didn’t even ship them - I just knew what this meant. Firstly, Wolverine speaks of Erik right before he makes this comment and Charles refers to Erik right after when he says, “we came to see you.” Come on, this enough should make it clear. They were discussing Erik when the statement was made. Additionally, Charles gets extremely angry when Wolverine says that Charles “loved” Erik, enough so to tell him to “f off” which as we know is a word that is barely used in this franchise and carries a lot of weight. Charles would not get so angry if Wolverine said this about Raven. He knows he loves her, and is comfortable saying it. He doesn’t have the same level of resentment for her as he does Erik. But it’s a little different when you mention the “l” word considering a jilted/ex/unrequited love - whatever they were. Charles stops dead in his tracks just like you would when someone outs you, tells you an uncomfortable truth, or catches you in a lie. Oh god it is so clear. The question as to whether they are canon is debatable - fine. But this scene shows there is no question as to how Charles feels about Erik, though it may not be reciprocated. Wolverine knows!!! Why can’t everyone else see it?

+AreTheyGay Hey, I’ve finally rewatched Days of Future Past yesterday and found one thing there that kind of blew my mind and might interest you. Unlike the first time, I’ve now watched it in my native language, Czech, and remember the „The professor I know would never turn his back on someone who’s lost their path. Especially someone he *loved*“ scene? Well, the interesting thing about Czech language is that we don’t have just one word for „love“, instead there is „mít rád“ for platonic love (friends, family etc.) and then there is „milovat“ that’s strictly meant in a romantic sense. And in this scene, the official Czech subtitles use the second one, milovat. So I switched to the dubbed version just for this scene and... yep, it’s there too. What I mean is that this is OFFICIAL release of the film, the version that has aired in cinemas and is on DVDs etc. The official distribution totally could have played it safe and use the platonic “mít rád” that most people would have expected, and yet they didn’t. Now I’m not saying that they definitely got some info about future storyline and that they decided to translate it this way because of that, but... I’ve heard about things like this before, official translators getting some tiny spoilers when they were to translate something that would be tricky in the other language, so... Maybe? Anyway, the fact that they did this is IMHO really interesting. Btw what’s your opinion on the extended scene of Angel’s recruitment (bcove.me/tmgcsfuz)? I mean, just the fact that they wrote the scene and then even filmed it...

Honestly, I never even saw Charles and Moira even being supposed to have a thing in First Class. Like yeah, when they first meet (and Charles is drunk af) he tries to use his v unsuccessful flirting techniques with her but then quickly realises how serious the situation with the baconmutants is. From there on their relationship is strictly professional, they're workmates. When Charles kisses Moira in the end he is quite literally just using her to wipe her mind so CIA won't find out the location of the school. I see nothing romantic in any of it. If Charles has a romantic plot in that film, it's definitely with Erik. :D And I'll be pretty pissed if they try to pair Charles and Moira in Apocalypse tbh.

The Magneto comic (specifically the Uncanny Avengers crossover event) features a showdown between Magneto and Red Skull (who is using the dead Xavier's brain to make use of his powers, or something to that effect.) With everything Red Skull is doing during this arc (and did to Magneto specifically at this point) it's pretty heartwrenching that when Red Skull's getting the shit beat out of him, what Magneto's saying to punctuate his punches is "THIS! IS! FOR! CHARLES!" This is all narrated by Magda, Magneto's daughter, who's lamenting that he tried to better himself for Xavier in a way he never did for her. THEN, what Red Skull says right before Magneto actually attempts to kill him is "Did you think you were his friend, Magnus? I can tell you with all certainty - Charles never loved you" (yes, that's word for word) and goes on to taunt him about how Xavier only ever pitied him and that it was his worst fear that he'd die leaving the X-men to his inept leadership. (EDIT: This prompts Magneto to crush his head with a pile of bricks. For the record.) The more you know.

LOVE THIS VIDEO! Has anyone else noticed how comfortable Erik is with Charles in his head? The only other person equally as close to Charles as Erik is Raven, and she makes Charles promise not to read her mind. Who wouldn’t do that same if they have a telepath friend? But Charles kind of just waltzes into Erik’s head all the time, and Erik doesn’t bat an eye. He even jokes about it (in a blatantly flirty way I might add) - “I couldn’t disobey you if I wanted to,” and “You can make me do anything.” Erik is completely comfortable with Charles in his head, almost as if he wants him there. Almost as if provides him a sense of peace, after a lifetime of solitude he is no longer alone. A bit more evidence of their no-so-secret love: How about when Charles says, “It’s not just me you are walking away from.” That’s such a strange way to phrase Erik’s choice to leave. They have presumably only known each other for a few days, maybe weeks. But Charles emphasizes to Erik - You are walking away from me. It definitely implies that the relationship between these two is deeper than what has so far appeared on screen. Even Moira is evidence. I actually would disagree that she is just shoved in there at an attempt to create heteronormativity. Charles cares for Moira, but she is always second to Erik, that relationship only ever moves forward when a future with Erik no longer seems like a possibility. Let’s look at the beach divorce - because this scene just screams, “Charles and Erik are in love.” They look lovingly into each other’s eyes as Erik cradles Charles in his arms for several minutes, and then Charles says those dreaded words (paraphrasing) “We don’t want the same thing.” On the surface this refers to their competing ideologies. And this is true, but also HELLO AGAIN TO THE SO OBVIOUSLY GAY WAY OF PHRASING - THIS ISN’T AN ACCIDENT. “Wanting the same thing” is a phrase generally attributed to couples who are not working out. Erik hears this and his heart is crushed - he just freezes - and it’s at that moment - that bloody heartbreaking moment- that Erik signals to Moira. He hands Charles over to her, because Charles “not wanting the same thing” isn’t just about ideologies. Erik feels rejected. And if you love someone you let them go. Moira holds Charles only after Erik has let him go. And it’s only after Erik is long gone that Charles kisses Moira. He is of course too emo now to start a relationship, so that goes no where. Even 20 years later when he again expresses love towards Moria, it’s only after Erik came within an inch of getting him bloody killed (and making him go bald). Oh, and we know Chalres looked into Erik’s mind and saw that Erik had been married and had a happy little family in fairy tale Poland. Would Charles really be expecting a relationship with his bad boy ex at this point? Even little moments in the film demonstrate Charles’ preference for Erik. When Charles abandons Moira in the woods because he just “can’t leave Erik.” He can’t. Maybe he would like to - Erik is an asshole- but he just can’t. Or on the crashed plane when Charles is trying so hard to get into Erik’s head and Moira is asking if he is all right. Charles harshly tells her to be quiet. He is completely focused on Erik. Yeah, this is in part just because they are on a mission and right now he needs to find Shaw. But it’s also a little bit because Charles is you know- obsessed- with Erik. And wants to get in his head and make sure he is okay. Moira obviously has a purpose here. She’s a story device- to demonstrate the significant differences between Charles and Erik. Erik is comfortable with the mutant/gay side of himself. Charles is less so. He definitely loves Erik, but Erik also represents a more difficult life- a life of being ostracized- which would be hard for someone who has also been able to blend in (a point about Charles we often hear Raven pointing out).

Some post-Apocalypse thoughts: Yes, Erik had a family and they're the reason why Erik turns crazy again, but that doesn't mean he can't love Charles. It's also Charles who, again, succeeds in bringing Erik back and despite Erik thinking he always loses everything that's good, he didn't lose Charles. Even Raven says that he still has Charles. And Charles was nervous around Moira but they didn't kiss or declare their love in the movie. Maybe he felt very uncomfortable because he knew her but she didn't know him anymore. Also, as soon as Erik appeared Charles almost completely forgot about Moira lol.

I have not even seen the video yet, nor read more than a few comments (so forgive me if I repeat) but the answer is a resounding "yes". Or at least, "yes, they love each other, and whether or not they are having sex with each other is none of our beeswax, but if they aren't they totally should." To explain further, I was a 50 year old matron in 2011 when First Class came out. Hubby and I saw the movie on the spur of the moment and heretofore, I was NOT a Marvel fan - not the comics, nor the movies. I'd never read an Xmen comic, saw maybe 3 episodes of the 90s cartoon because my kids were watching, so I knew the players, but I was indifferent. I walked into the movie, and my world view for every non canon couple in every fandom (male or female or het) was "they are just good friends" and "you can love someone without sleeping with them" (said in the most indignant way possible). I went through the movie, and knew of course that Moira was supposed to be Charles' love interest, and was will to go along with it...but little by little, I had to keep reminding myself that 'they were just friends ' 'good friends' 'really REALLY great friends and boon companions'. Then came the beach and 'they're just following orders' 'never again' and the silence when Charles got hit. He goes down, and every thought of vengeance flies out of Erik's head; all he wants is to get to Charles. He moves so fast that Charles hasn't completely hit the ground. Erik pulls the cursed bullet out, not gently but yanks it out in panic mode. He flings the boys away, chokes Moira and forbids Raven to come closer. He gives a speech that ends with "we are brothers we want the same thing". And it hit me like a wet mackerel: all I could think of was 'this is a goddamned marriage proposal'... and of course, "no, we do not", was the divorce. Since that hour, I have been a shipper of many ships, but Cherik was my first. And if I could see the code after 50 years of not understanding and outright denial, then it had to be blatantly obvious.

Dark Phoenix had a lot of not-great things in it, but at least it gave Erik and Charles the happily-ever-after they deserved.

I'd like to believe without a doubt that Charles and Eric definitely have a romantic interest in each other. At the end of Apocalypse they aren't necessarily in a relationship, but they left off on pretty good terms nonetheless. This I think means that old Eric in Days of Future Past was right that bringing them back together in an alternate timeline would make up for all the wasted time they had in the original timeline. Besides, at the end of Days of Future Past we don't really know where Eric is or what he is doing and has done in the alternate timeline. Maybe Charles and Eric are finally in a happy relationship together. I think it should be noted however that Charles and Eric are both bisexual given that they had romantic interests with females on the sidelines.

Oh please could you make another video of Charles and Eric with new stuff from apocalypse? The forces scenes of Charles and Moira were so terrible, and the relationship was SOOO forced.. Why did they even do it.. I'm fine with Eric and Charles being "just friends" (yeah right), but why forcing Charles to 'love' Moira and make him act like a dumb teenager. Seriously.. He's so much more than that. And even she, is a great character that shouldn't be used as a love interest, especially when it's as forced as her 'relationship' with Charles.

It might just be me but I think that their relationship was meant to show that someone could love a person so much for what was him, excluding other external factors. Maybe a peasant fell in love with a rich person and didnt even know he was rich. He just loved the guy for how comfortable his company is maybe. That's how I see Cherik. That stupid beach divorce was just a separation they both mutually agreed on because their clashing ideals went against their respective beliefs and to avoid further developing any resentment for each other, they separated. And somehow, I think that was the best seeing that none of them would give in.
