@@theduplicator3270 people will always try to use religion and even twist the words in those religion or cherry pick things they want to hear without any context from those religion to justify their actions. A good example is the whole marrying 4 wives in Islam. Some men will cherry pick this and say I am able to marry 4 women and ignore the fact that you have to have actual valid reasons for why you want to marry another woman.
His point wasnt that though, it was that people are binge playing videogames consistently everyday, when they could use all those hours to read the bible or do something positive. You can play videogames, but they guy is saying its evil because it has potential to become an addiction, same with porn, same with drugs, same with social media. You guys are asinine. Yall depicted satan the wrong way, hes not gonna possesses you he literally cant do that unless you're doing some weird ritual shit, in this context satan is technically possessing you (even though I said he doesnt do that) since he planted that seed of addiction that you can either grow and cultivate or eradicate.
I personally know a lot of friends who denounced their Christianity...it's so sad, especially because most of the reason is because they were hurt from other believers...
at one point i was a christian turned atheist too, then i realised it's better that i stayed christian to warn others about bullshits that stray would-be good christians away from god
@@eosapienrancher4045 I've been plenty put off by both. People told me as a kid that if I read the bible, I'd get this all-consuming sense of peace and love. All I felt was horror and bewilderment as to why anyone _wanted_ to believe in such a thing.
I remember being younger and ask my sweet Irish mother can you get me Doom for Christmas. She said no because it sounds evil. I told her, no you have to destroy evil demons and send them back to Hell. She bought me all the games.
I was banned from gaming growing up, literally nothing stopped me. My mother was one of these types, my father didn’t agree but went along with whatever she wanted because he was too exhausted to do otherwise. By the time I was in my teens, I had guys I’d buy games from used when they were done with them. My father secretly bought my brothers and I halo 3 ODST and helped convince our mother to let us get a used Xbox for Netflix streaming lmao. RIP dad, you were the best
That’s right! There is one specific temple (which name escapes me by the moment) that does put on a light show. I was introduced to it in my Japanese culture class.
I love how he says "having kids out of wedlock" as one of the side effects of anime, like homie am I in love with my body pillow or am I slaying too much pussy because you can't have it both ways.
"Jazz is evil." "Rock is evil." "Comics aren't real literature." "Metal is evil." "D&D is evil." "Rap is evil." "Video games are evil." "Anime is evil." You can believe in God and still have interests these people think is wrong. Edit: Time had a 1920's article slandering jazz and the black community. Jazz inspired Rock, which influenced Metal...
Everytime I see this pop up, it's just sad. The worst part is, there's a good chance someone went home, took his insanity to heart, and destroyed their kids video games.
@@samdherringthank you RU-vid for translating this comment to “God forbid, Reverend man”. Would’ve never understood this clearly archaic language otherwise
My church had something a bit similar to that. Not a tournament, but just one TV and one Wii U hooked up for anyone to play Smash 4. That was fun, though.
Back when I lived in Germany as a kid, when Yu-Gi-Oh! first came out most lads in school dueled every lunch break. The teachers literally banded together and got all the parents together to try and bring out the message that Yu-Gi-Oh! is a thing of the devil and that it is corrupting the children. The majority of parents, including my single working mother, told em to take a hike xD
@@TheMonkeKing As a gamer, I can confirm Doom makes me wanna rip and tear demons until it is done. Funnily enough, you'd think the church would be all for that.
As someone who grew up fundamentalist Christian (now non religious), I knew a lot of people who genuinely thought this way. My own parents hated my interest in video games and anime/manga, and went so far as to claim that watching anime opens “demon portals” and invites evil entities into the room. They were far from the only people in the community who thought like that too. Made growing up a nightmare, I learned how to lie and hide all my interests and think they’re lame even to this day because all the adults around me saw all the things I enjoyed as evil. Watching this guy preach his sermon kinda gave me chills.
Its so silly to hate video games and anime/manga for what Im guessing are stupid reasons you could apply to any other hobby, sorry you had to go through that
I am not interested in gaming, but the preacher is pulling stuff out of his ass to condemn. I wonder if he actually beleives this drek. Some simply want a spicy talking point and his sheep just follow along. Most are charlatans anyway
Its funny. The godless lefties hate all the same things the christians do about video games. No bewbs. No violence. Must have x theme in it. Its almost like people who want to control you, want to control what you can see.
@@connormac4401man you could say that about Pokemon too... but I'm willing to adhere to my own vision where the gray areas work out one way or another. I believe if a Pokemon truly wanted to leave Ash, he would let it free. No?
I mean I have no idea why God would have a problem with video games. Even the violent ones aren't any worse than movies and tv. HECK the Bible is one of the most violent books there is.
As a christian myself, I can confirm that video games are not a way to "pry us away from God" and that DOOM Eternal and Ultrakill are, in fact, the most christian games I have ever played.
That is true, but I do believe that some games are addictive (like elden ring and red dead) and we still gotta make room for community events and church events.
@@chrischan9318 well yeah, getting addicted to them to the point where you neglect other things is dangerous, but that could also be said for pretty much anything.
My dad is a Pastor. He loves making jokes while preaching about God. He asks the audience because he doesn't really speak English good. He is Filipino and he's a Fun Pastor to be around with. He's a great father. He has reasonable rules and he helps us. Even when my brother is going to College. My brother gives him attitude but my dad still helps and loves us equally. He doesn't attack us for playing games. He doesn't care much.
I use to think games weren't evil, but sonic recently started advising me to go faster and faster in my car and collect rings off corpses of people I run over so now I'm second guessing myself.
@bobbuilder5123 not a religious person mysrlf but that is a pretty non-argument. The bible doesn't talk about a lot of modern things because it's over 2000 years old.
As a gamer and avid anime watcher myself, I must say that this guy hit it spot on. Every time I'm done gaming, I sacrifice lost children to Satan, and I perform obscene acts in front of Jesus Christ before watching anime.
I'm watching My Hero for the first time and nothing makes me get in a better mood to sacrifice children to Satan than seeing Deku help people out and be an overall nice guy.
As we all know, having birth out of wedlock simply didn't happen until DBZ came to the United States. Before then, it was a perfectly Christian nation.
@@plantain.1739 No joke, wore a DBZ shirt to school one time due to failing to do my laundry. And it reeled in a fairly good lookin GF. So ya, I can definitely say DBZ got me laid. Granted, it also ended in disaster lol. You take one, you give one.
I love the argument of “if what I said offended you, that must mean I’m right.” Heard this argument before about all sorts of stuff. Never makes any sense to me.
ironically the pastor comes as close as possible to being right when he slams people marrying anime body pillows, but he just falls short of the mark when you realize that he talks to a wooden execution method for a living.
I love the idea of a family leaving a sermon and the dad turning around and saying “I swear if either of you break the new Xbox we just got you I will send you to Jesus”
As a kid that grew up in a Christian house hold, I was always so confused on why people hated religion. Now I'm older and see this shit and get hit with a huge ahhhhhhh there it is moment
tbh I understand what you're saying, it sucks when stuff like this happens. Just remember that not all religious people act like this. but yeah, its like they don't understand video games, so instead of learning it, they just judge it.
Pastor: "If you watch anime, you're a loser, and you'll never get a real girl." Same pastor in the same sermon: "If you watch anime, you'll end up with a child out of wedlock."
People fear what they don't understand, my church spoke out against games the first time they became popular, but then, after learning that children did not start jumping on turtles after playing Mario Party, they stopped.
the fact adults that stupid just hang out en mass is so scary. those people have jobs and pay taxes , and they are actually too stupid to understand that BURNING SOMEONE ALIVE FOR WITCH CRAFT NOT TOO LONG AGO AND STILL IN RURAL MODERN AREAS, is way worse than playing fucking elden ring
@@pepperbytez8128Studies have shown that playing video games leads to a DECREASE in violence against turtles. The theory is they give people a healthier outlet for their animosity towards shelled reptiles.
I lived with an evangelical household and I remember a Veggietales episode (a highly religious children show about talking vegetables in case you're wondering what it is) about Temptation and it goes into video games when it comes to the topic of Temptation. It's general takeaway with it was "There's nothing wrong with playing video games once in a while, but if it's keeping you from doing your chores, they're keeping you from being the kid that God wants you to be." Which if you take the religious part out of it it basically boils down to 'video games are fine as a hobby, just don't let it control your life.' It's kind of sad that a children show about talking vegetables has the most nuanced/ least black and white take that I've seen about this 'video games vs religion' topic. Edit: Grammar fix
To be fair though Veggie tales is a good show in general. Like religious cartoons are notorious for being garbage and Veggietales is one of the few examples of a good one. Like there's good shows about religion but generally not for kids and there's a difference between religious shows and shows about religion.

Ive never seen a video game that i think has a more destructive message than, "Do exactly as i say or you will burn in hell!" Scaring the Christ into people is ridiculous.
I understand that you may disagree with certain religious beliefs and practices, but I must point out that your comment oversimplifies and misrepresents the vast and diverse range of religious beliefs and practices that exist in the world. While it's true that some individuals and organizations may use fear or coercion to promote certain beliefs or practices, it's important to recognize that this is not representative of all religious traditions. Many individuals find comfort and meaning in their religious beliefs, and may approach them with a sense of openness, curiosity, and respect for diversity. Furthermore, it's important to recognize that religious traditions have played a significant role in shaping the cultural, social, and moral fabric of societies around the world. By dismissing these traditions or reducing them to simplistic caricatures, we risk overlooking the richness and complexity of human experience and culture. Ultimately, it's important to approach discussions around religion and spirituality with nuance, empathy, and an openness to diverse perspectives and experiences. If you actually listed out all those things " they say for you to do" you'd find how similary they are to our laws and social decorums. Don't use this one man (or even a million others) to justify your one-sided takes on billions.
@@jestapath7373 Appreciate that it isn't just Christianity you took in account for. Every other religion - Actually, even philosophies, essentially have values that can be taken into extremes. You can argue that someone can generalize stoicism as 'just ignore your emotions and physical pleasures of life otherwise you won't be fine' which is such a big oversimplification that it's wrong.
I love how he implies the simple ideas of "Enjoying something" or "forget how miserable own life is for an hour or two" is automatically a sin. Makes it quite clear how the average life of these people is. By this point of view even a kid doodling something on paper is a sin, because how dare you distract yourself from giving money to the church.
The most frustrating thing is, you can read the bible, provide for your family, go to church frequently, AND still play video games on your downtime. This dude must be so unhappy if he’s so angry about entertainment. Playing minecraft with my kids is the most wholesome, positive experience that teaches lessons like promoting teamwork and creativity.

My dad is a theologian and is well respected in his field, and he introduced me to games by playing Mario and Zelda as well as playing coop games with me. Both my parents even liked pokemon to a degree (mom thought Pikachu was cute). The only reason dad stopped playing was because he became too busy.
I know of one Imam from the Utica Mosque who said that he loved Metal Gear Solid. Proof that us religious folks can love video games as much as those who aren't
Religion can be used for both good and bad things. And there are many good religious folks that are chill and rational people about video games. I'm a Muslim, and I love video games! My top 3 are Super Mario 64, Ocarina of time and Chrono trigger! What are yours?
As someone who owns games, I can indeed confirm that whenever I play Astros Playroom, I get possessed by the spirits of the underworld and commit war crimes
What I find funny about the satanic panic and the whole “video games cause bad things” is that in both cases, it’s just people(mainly adults) who see young people enjoying something and than immediately jumping to the conclusion that that said thing that is being enjoyed, is evil.

Seriously. What's funny is when Christians say, "Oh no...those are the crazy ones." Like, bro, have you read the bible? “Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil... prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...” ― Terry Pratchett
Reminds me of a priest that was asked if Doom was an evil game for depicting demons and all that. The priest said that you're slaying demons. What could be more holier than that?
What saddens me when I see things like this is that there are many parents out there that listen to this bullshit and will do exactly that with their kid's console when they arrive home.
My uncle on my dad's side of the family once told me I couldn't get into heaven because I like videogames. My uncle on my mom's side told me I was possessed by a demon because I took a picture of myself and moved the camera so the image would blur. He interpreted that blur as a "demon" entering my body. It's the intelligence of most Christians that made me not believe in "God" when I was a kid. Now I'm an adult and still see them as retards.
It's also sad that so many parents believe this bs that churched shove down their throats just so they can do the same to their kids once they get home.
This is what irretates me the most abr preachers, half of these dudes spread bullshit of their own beliefs and the people's who listen to this ACTUALLY LISTEN and do all of this shit I,m an atheist I have no hate or disrespect against any religion But for the love of god these preachers really shouldn't be in these religions as they only make it worse And people really need to grow fucking braincells to use common sense and not do this shit

My church just says basically "consume media that doesn't drag you down - that isn't overly violent, sexual, etc. Seek out media that has positive messages, doesn't take too much of your time, and consume it in moderation." Beyond that, we are told to make our own decisions about what we personally consider appropriate to read, watch, listen to, and play. Contrast that with a time I visited another church, and the pastor tried to prove with the Bible that Fortnite specifically was evil. It was such a laughable stretch of logic that I literally had to fight to keep myself from laughing.
@@EoCx1 I'm not sure what you mean. My church encourages it's members to seek out meaningful things that they enjoy - and doesn't make specific call outs of "oh you can't play this game, you can't watch this movie." @@CrimsonAbyss I wish people would understand this better. Saying "I like movies" does not necessarily mean that I like rom coms or westerns, saying "I'm a Christian" doesn't necessarily mean I'm catholic. Religion I'd say is one of the broader categories of human life, so it's odd how some people will make assumptions about what you believe based on a very different denomination from yours - and it's not uncommon for two congregations in one denomination to have very different ways of presenting their beliefs. Such as it is with all groups of people. Judge a person based on their actions and who you actually learn them to be, not on one attribute of them they casually mentioned.

I attended a Pentecostal church service one time and they had a guest speaker. And he had talked about how the minds of children are easily manipulated and we need to be careful of what our kids are exposed to. Overall, he was referring to things more like horror movies or Ouija boards and what not. Some lady raised her hand and said "My son plays Xbox, he won't let me take it. He's possessed" and then everyone started blurting out things that their kids do in their free time. For example: D&D, Minecraft, Mario, Sonic, and even Need for Speed. The guest speaker was trying to clarify what he meant, but everyone was just shouting over him and that dude just walked out and said nothing. Quite funny. Here are my notes, as someone who is still Christian. Video games, movies, toys, books, hobbies have not driven me as far from God as the church has. There are good churches out there, however the tradition that some churches hold is disgusting and they are what will drive the future generations away from having a faith.
