You should add that most motorcycle manufactures already give a 1 year warrantee and usually if anything happens after that first year they consider it wear and tear anyway, which isnt covered even by extended warrantees

It's simple math. If you can afford to take the loss, warranties will lose you money in the long run. An extended warranty is nothing but a bet against yourself and the warranty company always makes money. I work in the insurance industry and it's exactly the same as a casino in that we never lose. The only thing you should buy insurance against is catastrophic loss. Loss that you cannot recover from. Otherwise, you will always come out ahead in the long run. I have never bought any type of warranty my entire life. I'm so far ahead at this point that if something does take a shit and I have to replace it, I would still be miles ahead and I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of going through the warranty company to get a repair/replacement. Hell, I bought a near $20K brand new 2018 Harley and not only did I not buy any extra warranty, but I immediately voided the factory powertrain warranty.

A rational and useful perspective. On a math and statistical basis, extended warranties are not worth it for the buyer. Yet they do have a place in the market for sure. Cash buyers who can't cover a repair should indeed get one, but I'd ask: what happened to your emergency fund, dude? If you can't pay for a clutch, how the hell are you going to pay your rent when you lose a job, or have a medical need. (No need to answer that if you still live with mom) Credit buyers have already established that they can't afford the bike, so having payments on a bike that is broken and out of warranty really sucks. It probably leads you to sticking the repair on a credit card, at which point now you have even more monthly payments (but at least your bike runs!). So maybe the warranty is a good idea! But so might $130 spent on Financial Peace University. Everybody's mileage varies of course. Everyone has their own risk tolerance and financial resilience. Some people need them, some like the predictability of expense. Some buy warranties, actually use them and get a good deal (more paid out than they paid for the warranty). Many others buy them and the bike is reliable, they look after it, and nothing significant breaks during ownership. Because, let's face it, nothing sucks more than having a reliable bike that you ride all the time and just wrench on for regular servicing and consumables! /snort/

Warrantys are only good in case of a catastrophic failure. In nearly every case when you factor in the cost of the warranty and the deductible it is almost never worth it in the end. And this isn't just for vehicle warranty just about all consumer good warranty are the exact same thing. When you factor in cost of warranty and the cost of deductible it usually cheaper to just pay for repair.
@94SexyStang

yep, it's only good for that nightmare scenario.....but motorcycles are Extremely reliable, so it almost Never happens....i'll just fix it myself, unless it's a Recall type thing that's expired and they won't cover.....NOW it's good to have a warranty.
@diegocella6791
@diegocella6791 5 лет назад
Yes, manufactures love to look like the good guy by offering warranties like it's some sort of gift, it isn't you pay for it! It's buried in the sale price but it's there. Plus be carefull on the limitation of the warranties, i just got a really bad expirience with BMW and oil cunsumption.

The biggest deal is "recall" type stuff, or Known Problems that the manufacturer won't acknowledge....(that's why you check forums).......but That's when it's good to have a warranty. But it's extremely RARE for motorcycles to have catastrophic issues.....most manufacturers got it down to science....even Harley.(although I would be leery of BMW and Ducati, always changing things, and still known for recalls)
@jvillain9946
@jvillain9946 Год назад
If its a catastrophic issue from the factory they typically fix it with or without a warrantee.

Lucky you guys don’t sell bikes or cars in Australia, any car or bike that is less then 10 yrs old or under a certain km. The dealer has to cover warranty and repairs, no extra cost to the buyer, most new cars and bikes are covered up to 3 to 5 yrs or 160,000 km whatever comes first, again no extra cost to the buying price, it all falls back to the dealer.

Hey Caleb. I'm going to ask you the same question I just posted on Sean's last video. I'm curious how much wiggle room there is when it comes to buying a pre-owned bike from a dealer. (it's a five year old Triumph.) Do they have the "list price" then a lower price they'll take if the bike sits for a while? I'm sure each place is different. I'll be paying cash and I'm trying to get the best deal possible. They want 5500 hundred for it. I'd love to roll in there with 5,000 cash and take the bike. Do you think that's plausible? Thanks!
