The highlight for me was by far the discovery of Percival Everett. "Erasure" & "The Trees" were both very good, and I am planning to read a lot more of his books.

Oh for the love of all that is holy, please let Wind and Truth live up to all our expectations hahaha. Also love how excited you are about the Too Like the Lightning series, I really want to read that so badly! My favourite book so far is a toss-up between Hell for Hire by Rachel Aaron and A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams 🥰

I spent the first half of the year trying to work through a backlog of subscription box books, which has been interesting. Both my biggest surprise and disappoint came from BOTM (loved Dragonfruit, hated A River Enchanted), but now I want to focus the second half of my year on reading all the pretty books I've bought in 2024 😅🎆

Fantastic tag ! Really excited to see where Jade Daniels story goes in that third book because I've really enjoyed seeing her in the first two. I think for my character the ones I havent been able to stop thinking about is Cordelia from Vorkosigan, Jade, Markel from Tithenai and Tashue & Stella from Legacy of The Brightwash. Also you Hugos videos were fantastic !

Also excited about The Lotus Empire, obviously. My highlight of the year so far has been The Warm Hands of Ghosts, plus a bunch of rereads. Too bad the Killers of the Flower Moon movie was so boring!

Glad you enjoyed your re-read of Oathbringer, I read it for the first time this year and I loved it so much! :) (I am a big Dalinar fan so that's probably partially why). Also, I love the idea of Ali Hazelwood and Abby Jimenez co-writing something! And I agree about the focal point of the Killers of the Flower Moon, I remember watching the trailer and wondering why the bad guys were almost the POV characters (Mollie should have been the "main character", imo). As for my highs, I really loved Defiant, Oathbringer, Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands, the last two Aurora Cycle books, The Deep Sky, Ali Hazelwood's romances, the X-Wing series, etc :) 🎆☀

I also put Too Like the Lightning as the best book I've read so far! Mainly because I put Seven Surrenders down as the book that made me cry. I am still not over the ending.

The Dune movies are truly superior to the book for me, which is rare in adaptations, I think it helps in the movies we dropped all the gross pseudohomophobia present in the book

Ngl, I'm surprised Jenn Lyons' new book isn't on the list. :P Also every Scorsese is too long and boring, sorry not sorry. 👀 And glorifies violence. And is the basically the same thing over and over again. I do feel like hollywood is getting better at not having everything so white focused and erasing everybody else, but then comes along a dude like Scorsese and they're just like "whatever you say man, make us some money". -.-
