I remember when these trains were brand new. It was a welcome change from the silver cans with wooden slats on the floor and dangling knobs to hold onto. I used the Central line the other week - the carriages look grim now.

I think what they should have done is installed strip maps similar to the ones on the New York Subway. Each station would have its own light on the maps - next stop would be flashing light, subsequent stops would be static lights.

It was going to have them actually, it was in the models showcased to news and stuff. For some reason though it was never in the final trains.

I don’t think that’s a good idea because they will soon have in 2025 big screens telling the next stations and the Thames link has new PIS anouncements

The new trains have actual screens inside them showing the next stop and other information such as how busy the network is and they are being rolled out soon so there wouldn't really be a point.

@@ce_1upp PSVAR regulations - basically, to make the bakerloo line more accessible. I believe there will also be a wheelchair bay in one of the coaches.

They did this to the trains so that they can run for a much longer period of time before they get replaced very late in the next decade. Waterloo and city line ones will get the new trains.

Only on Piccadilly line in 2025. The bakerloo will be next around 2027ish Central Line 2030 maybe W&C 2034 or smthg THIS IS ONLY IF TFL GETS FUNDING

They did this to keep the trains in service for much longer as this can improve the reliability, as a few of the 1992 stock trains had issues. They shouldn't be gone that soon because they're not as aged as the 72 and 73 stocks.

@@Great_WesternTVFan Don't TfL plan on replacing these trains with that Siemens model in the 2030s anyway? I suppose they'll be in their 40s by then. Still, for all that effort, it would make sense to keep them even longer. Personally, I liked that design, especially the large windows. I imagine that it must have been an incredibly lightweight design, unlike those bulky Alstom ones (which don't get me wrong, I admire as well).

Most DC motor tractions sound, the LED display and a new refurbished special seats are even more better than the AC motor tractions sound.

Not really new stocks being replaced. The 1992 stock isn't really old like the 1972 and 73 stocks, they're only 27 and the other two are 50 years old. And the refurbishments are made to improve the reliability so they can stay for a longer time

From what I understand, the overcrowding on the Central Line meant that they could only start pulling the trains out of service after Crossrail opened... ...otherwise they would be short of trains.

"Here" means the train has arrived. It would have said 1 Minute before that. I suspect the system is tied into the signal block and only removes the train, when the signal at the end of the train goes red.
