Aretha was damaged, very much damaged. She had a baby at 12 and 14 that doesn't happen in healthy relationships. She was jealous of all females. She got into it with T-Boz. She clearly never got the help she needed. That generation didn't believe in therapy. Aretha was not nice , I also didn't see all the hype about her voice. There was Etta, Mavis, and Gladys, all of which I thought had better voices. Her personality idiosyncrasies was trauma response. To dismiss another woman's trauma is despicable
Aretha looks always upset and unfriendly where diva Dionne Warwick is always very friendly and happy "That's what friends are for" I admire and I'm huge fan of Dionne Warwick than Aretha
....i have to say that it is a well known fact that ARETHA was EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE....and she was insecure....the ONLY person i have EVER heard her COMPLIMENT.....was CHAKA KHAN....
I think it's interesting how Aretha was so dismissive of Tina Turner. Tina's the Queen of Rock & Roll. Tina has sold more concert tickets than Aretha could ever dream of. They're in two totally different categories. They're both Queens & Iconic.
I think Aretha was insecure about her looks and the women back then were all pinned against each other for controversy. I imagine she had people in her ear saying " so and so said this about you" to keep them in the news or whatever.
Aretha was insecure due to her weight but also because she had her baby so young and the church gurls use to make luttlr jabs about not knowing who the father was after getting pregnant on the road travelling with her father so i think that made her have her guard up against trusting other women. unfortunate she must have been lonely
It would seem that Aretha hated everyone that was considered competition. She was the obvious antagonist. It’s a shame. All of these singers are so talented. Hate and jealousy is never the road to walk. It only destroys the hater.
Aretha was a low self-esteem hot mess. Aretha always had to be the biggest thing in R&B (and she was - literally). She stood clear of Patti Labelle because she wanted none of that heat. Patti knows how to take a person down - with ease.
I'll say something here. To me Gladys Knight was a better singer than Aretha Franklin, she didn't howl and scream, she was more subtle and she has a more beautiful voice. Just my opinion of course, but if you listen to her technique, she uses her voice like an finely tuned instrument., a singers singer I'd say.
Aretha was unquestionably the "Queen Of Soul". But her pettiness, vitriol toward other female singers, and complete refusal to behave with a generous and appreciative spirit towards others singers, and to Dionne Warwick in particular, detracts from her admirable qualities, IMO. I always thought that Warwick's flawless renditions of Bacharach-David classics (including, I might add, "I Say A Little Prayer", BTW) were underappreciated. She sang these immaculately written songs in accordance with the exacting melodies of the composer, Burt Bacharach. Dionne deliberately chose not to add vocal flourishes, embellishments, or improvisations, as is standard practice now. The written melodies were, and still are, perfect as written. If you want proof of just how incredible Warwick is as a singer, just listen to her recording of "Promises, Promises", which most singers, even highly respected ones, could not even come close to recreating. music.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YHZBBYiOcUQ.html&si=2pT8qmbrWtjl7kM_
Tina had it all over Aretha,Tina had kindness,Aretha was jealous over anyone who was more better looking than her . Tina had more albums and a huge fan base with sold out concerts all over the world.
Aretha hated my idol (Diana Ross) over the years they learned to be polite to each other. I think Franklin dislike Diana's cross over fame and Ross was always beautiful. Very catty
I heard she rerecorded her part in her collaboration with Whitney who recorded and nailed her own part in just one take. Even then, after rerecording, Whitney still outsang her.
It wasn't that Beyonce referred to Tina as simply the Queen. She said, "The queen of Rock, Pop, and Soul." Aretha has been known as the Queen of Soul in 1964.
I love all of them, but to me hands down Patti hits notes like no other. Aretha had her first child @ 12, supposedly by her dad. So she was bitter, as a young child. Even with her own sisters. Dionne a class of her own. They are all legends, on their own
Aretha was always nasty. The way she treated Natalie Cole was a shame as well. Even the way she treated her family. She made sure even after she went to great beyond to leave messiness behind. Honestly, I never liked how both her and Prince's nastiness were deemed acceptable just because they were musicians. I know that you have to be tough to survive the industry but to be purposely mean is something altogether different.
Some people don't know, "they are the common denominator". I grew up with Aretha's music, I love it...sad to realize she kept divisions going...so much more could have been gifted to the world thru their music together.
Why do black women act jealous of one another? Black is beautiful. They are all beautiful, in every way they carry themselves. They should learn to support each other despite the circumstances. They will rolled their eyes, fixed their faces at each other, and for what? The other side already done appreciate you black women, try to support each other for crying out loud. And don’t try to come for me, cause I’m just saying. May God blessed you all🥰🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Aretha Franklin is the type of person we all know and on TV and stuff looks "cute" and "funny" and "sassy queen" coz its fun to watch and laugh. But unfortunetly that personality type exists everywhere and we all might of known or have somebody close like that. That personality type is extremly extremely toxic, narcisitic, and you will find out IF its near you in real life that VERY VERY SOON it does NOT become "cute" at all when you see the level of drama, hatred and toxicity that comes out of those people
