The descendants of the Africans brought in bondage to America (1619) have a Queen, her name is Dr. Aretha Louise Franklin! (honorary doctorates from Bethune Cookman University, Wayne State University, University of Detroit, Princeton University, Harvard University and Yale University) The Queen of Soul, winner of 18 Grammy Awards and recipient of 2 Grammy Honors, The Grammy Legend Award and The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The Legend Award is now defunct, thereby making her one of only a few to earn both. Rest in peace 1942-2018. Those who do not know Dr. Franklin's history, should read it before commenting.
Watch some idiot post a comment and say she don't sound like she used to. They totally ignore that she's 76 years old. The fact that she's still singing to me is wonderful.
It was not only the fact that she was 76, but ill health as well. It was no secret that she was performing in between illness and treatments. She could still belt them out! Check out ehen she performed for obama.
She sounds great to me,she's just singing it in a different octaves. and every first song is always that first, everyone sings there song in a different way the next time, there meant to be sang different way everytime who so ever thing she sound different don't know anything about music.
I was sitting in the 5th fucking row (coming with my white ass from Frankfurt/Germany 2 see her, beside the candadian girls in an opera dress *wow* great row!!!) and I can tell you, she was a godess :-) Falling in love with her music again and again in this concert, blessed with her performance, her impressive charisma. I can tell that I don`t give a damn about anything else than "Aretha you became a part of my genetic code" :-D
And that's what made her the legend she is! She knew how to pull it back and push it forward when she needed to. That's the magic of Aretha. She had that kind of uncanny ability to interpret a song. It wasn't just about singing high notes, singing loud, or riffs to impress. She served the song, the lyrics!
“To make you laugh, I would be the fool for you”. And the rest is Commentary. RIP Our Dear Queen of Soul. You are in my Soul till my final day comes. Beyond Grateful for the Love you gave us in Glorious Song.
That's what made her so soulful. She when she sings she can take you on a musical journey with her. They didn't call her The Queen of Soul for nothing, honey she wore the crown proudly.👑

LOVE THE QUEEN!!!!! A singer introduced to me as a child, I grew up IN Aretha Conservatory, lol. A singer thru my lifetime. She sounds good in spite of her illness, her years of smoking, etc. Background vocals are killing it too....I can bet it's Fonzi Thornton, Vaneese Thomas, maybe Tawatha Agee.......not all sure but that "sound" is them lol. LONG LIVE the Queen of Soul
Another treasure for this Aussie's Playlist, that l have had so much pleasure putting together over the last 5 days. Aretha's musical journey in chronological order - 1964 'till 2018 :- ru-vid.com/group/PLo0tzmnlxcWlCXunhplmNsR5pY50F8KUM
Don't you think she would if she could? The voice changes as you get older and she's 73 here. Not everyone can keep doing that with the voice as they get older, taking chest voice up as they did some 40 years ago. She's had to make adjustments over the years. Her upper register actually sounds much better these days and sounds pretty connected to her lower register than it did before. It can sometimes be very hazy when she goes back and forth between registers.
In today's time on a REALLY GOOD VOICE/VOCAL night Aretha has still got some strong pieces to her falsetto voice left. What I mean by that is the falsetto voice she had back in the late 90's some of those pieces are still there. It's small pieces but strong depending on how she puts it out, and also the same with her natural/chest voice as well. And in today's time on a "GOOD NIGHT" Aretha still has a good belting Scream, Holler, Yell left as well as 1 or 2 good high notes left. But again on a good night where she's not out of breath, not sick, not coming out on stage tired and weak, the A/C is off and the stars in the sky are lined up just right. Point is a really great awesome vocal performance happens at least 2 or 3 times a year from her. Everything else is questionable.
DRAG QUEENS ALWAYS TRYING TO CRITIQUE! WHAT THE FUCK IS A "chest voice"? IF you really listen to the records, you will see that she is NOT singing much different. YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT ARETHA CAN SING IN ANY RANGE SHE CHOOSES. YES,EVEN AT 75!
