I made wings for both sides of my auger housing, so I can put them on one side or the other to eliminate that line of snow that the blower spits out the side. Saves the need to go back and do the cleanup after clearing the driveway. And for snow that's 6" or less, I can put them both on and make a wider path each time.

Can’t beat it, the fact that it has the zero turn differential and the deflector shute locks in every position is why it’s a winner!!

I love my Airens 28"SHO. I pulled the 306cc and put the polar Force 420 cc engine on it. Added LED lights to it. It throws snow 40 to 50 feet with no problem. Good video man.

Funny you say that because the 306cc an the 420cc are two different size blocks, so it would require a shit ton of modification.

Toro for snow as well ariens are built better but under powered but at the same time you can plow thru 10 inch’s of snow faster then a toro or Honda but performance has to go to toro or Honda!

I have owned an Ariens Deluxe 28 since 2013. I put chains on it and a 10-pound weight under the front of the bucket and it turned it into a new machine It will plow through monster drifts almost as high as the handlebars and the front end stays down. I only use premium gas with Sta-Bil and Lucas fuel treatment.

I agree with u.we had 40cm of snow yesterday man I have nothing bad to say only good experience so far,it’s been 4 years for me with this blower and he 0 issues only oil changes nothing more

@@spidusp I had a real problem with my snowblower a few years ago. It wouldn't start. I checked the spark plug for spark, checked the fuel filter screen inside of the fuel tank, installed an inline fuel filter drained and replaced the gas, rebuilt the carburetor, ordered a new carburetor and it still wouldn't start. I was at my wit's end when I called the Ariens tech. He said I had changed and cleaned everything but did I change the spark plug. I said that was the first thing I had checked. He asked what I had to lose? I changed the original Torch plug to NGK and It fired right up. Just because you can see a spark doesn't mean that the spark is hot enough. Well, at least I have an extra carburetor, have extra parts and tools, and am an expert in taking apart carburetors. There's always a learning curve!

I have had my 28" since 2001. Awesome machine. We get 60 inches of snow a year and my driveway is double wide and 50 yards long. I do my neighbors driveways too. Aside from oil, grease, and auger break off bolts I have only had to change the belts and the inner drive wheel. Still works great in 2022.
@CALVINLNIKONT
@CALVINLNIKONT 2 года назад
@@Sandbag1300 I measured the depth of rubber on my new friction after 2 years and it measured .150. The rubber on my new disc measured at .200. I replaced the disc at .050 which was exactly the perfect time. It would not have made it through another season. In August 2019, I performed a complete service. R&R all bearings and belts, R&R friction disc, R&R Damaged right-side auger, R&R impeller, impeller bearing, and roll pins. Greased auger shaft. Greased all gears inside friction disc maintenance cover. R&R drive wheels greased the wheel shafts. R&R headlight assembly and bulb. Adjusted and lubricated all cables, R&R both skid shoes. As you would know, it's easier to do maintenance in the summer than wait until you break down in the middle of a monster snowstorm.

Thanks for the video. May late father -in-law turned me on to Ariens snowblower almost 40 years ago in Northern Michigan. With a little bit of routine maintenance, they've never let me down. Live in a neighborhood with 16 houses and a court at the end. In a big storm, a neighbor and I start in the middle of the street and gang blow the whole street, so the plow doesn't have anything to pack into the end of our driveways! Ariens gets it up and out of the way!

bought a new 821QZE few weeks back, right before Chicago started gettin clobbered with snow. today found out what the engine sounds like when it runs out of gas and dies. momentary freakout that the machine had a major problem especially when the motor started heaving before it died. the 821 don't sound too impressive compared to my old 2 stroke, but when it dives into a snowbank that engine revs up and does its stuff. put it through its paces today with 2 hours of tackling 12in + snow. can't find a 831QZE in Chicago? check out Terpstras in Griffith Indiana. nice folks

Ariens are customizable, tho. They have weight kits for those who want to dig. Back in the day, Toro did have a one with a mechanical gearbox that let you actually move the axle back for digging, but I don't think they make that anymore. Nowadays people tend to just get track machines for scraping, which has the same effect.

I got the Ariens Platinum 24 SHO. first-day auger gear housing leaked. Dealer's first attempt failed. 2nd attempt they put all new auger gear on and that fixed it. My first snow I didn't feel any difference with the SHO 369cc engine. The front end is to light and it rides up snow just like yours does. Ariens does sell weight plates to put on the front. I made my own. The auto-steering SUCKS. My last blower had the levers and they were way easier to turn with. Id buy a different brand if I did it all over. Oh and I paid $1499.99 for it and dealer offered me $800 to take it back. What a horrible dealer. Ariens didnt care either

IMO, always get a 2 stage. 24" wide is the standard smallest size, and I tend to think that is fine because you have to store it, taking up space, the rest of the year. Of residential brands, Yamaha & Honda are the best built. Toro & Ariens are #2. The rest are all kinda the same. There are thousands of "brands", but they are all made by a few 3rd party manufacturers. You'll notice that most of their augers, gearboxes, and some other parts all look the same. Personally, I like Ariens. They are typically all-steel, although recently they have cheapened up some parts to compete will all these inexpensive blowers out there. One example is you'll see a brace on the auger case in this video. That is because unless you get the "commercial grade" Ariens, they no longer have a solid metal shaft through the augers. Keep in mind, tho, many cheap brands also do this _without_ the brace which can cause the gearbox to break if you hit something hard because the augers will bind on the shaft not allowing the shear pin to break. I have an older Ariens "Compact 22" because I had a narrow sidewalk at my old place. The "compact" ones don't have a "full size" auger, so they don't clean as well when you get to the end of your run because the auger is a couple inches off the ground. I also like Ariens because they do tend to offer a large choice of models and options. features like "auto turn", which is a form of automatic locking differential, and, of course, they have "compact" and "full size" models, they even have "SHO" (super high output) models where, for a few extra bucks, you get a larger motor, shorter gear ratio(faster impeller speed), and even a stronger impeller. Toro has their own features also, but I'm already running long. Suffice to say, they are a good brand. I guess their biggest claim to fame is they always try to make a "plug proof" blower. Their latest attempt is a very open impeller housing that shoots snow out the front if it doesn't all fit in the chute. I'm skeptical of that design, other than I think it's more "finger safe". Also, I have seen Toro's with two part deflectors on the chute, something normally you'd only see on Yamahas/Hondas or expensive commercial blowers. That can allow for more range, and less "spatter" when deflecting the snow a lot. Hondas/Yamahas tend to be pretty basic and just well built. I think they are all hydrostatic now, which gives the best speed control, and most are tracked, which gives traction and the ability to really scrape hardened snow. As far as any non-Honda/Yamaha/Ariens/Toro, well, they do work, they're cheap to buy. They will have a lot of plastic parts, a lot of gimmicks, often use a lot of cable controls which can be high maintenance due to salt and freezging. Cheap gear boxes, but even cheap gear boxes can last a long time. Probably the hottest gimmick of the 3rd stringers right now are their "3 stage" blowers. It's basically a sideways mounted single stage, with helper augers that push snow into a sideways single stage system. Cub Cadet(which is now just a name that was bought out by MTD in 1981) promotes it the most, but it also is available under other names too because it's just part of a conglomerate. They do throw alot of snow around, but it's questionable how much makes it out the end of the chute, lol. So, take your pick, however, if your goal is it impress the neighbors, well, then you need to find yourself a Zaugg Snow Beast. ;)

So guys, can you give me the best strategy to remove as much snow as possible? I used a snowblower for the first time last week and had some little "rocks" of snow lying around. From Peter's video, I can deduct: - Pass with the snowblower once, then only half the width of each scoop - Only go down the driveway, then all the way up - When you've made some progress, take a shovel and just scoop the rock-sized bits of snow that are left (like at 7:11) Any other tips?
@sawboneiomc8809
@sawboneiomc8809 4 года назад
Stanley QC when I use mine I go down my driveway the first time full width. On my return I never go back up using the same path. What I mean is , I’ll move over 6” and start another full width plow. What that does is I never have snow falling in front of my snowblower and thus cutting my snowblower width in half. Then on my third trip I take out the center 6”. Making my trips more efficient. I never have to kick snow in front of my machine like in this video. I have a 24” snowblower. If I use my method you get 54”..if I take 1 full pass and then half each time trying to keep snow from falling out of my path...I only get 48” and I’m faster and cleaner.

@guy proulx Oh, it is shorthand for "As Far As I Know". It basically means, "I think I'm correct, but I could be wrong."
