Today in the driveway we have an Ariens 3n1 21” Lite Weight Push Lawn Mower with oversized rear wheels! Its Ariens with a CRAPPY KOHLER COURAGE ENGINE ON IT! I had this mower sold JUST MY LUCK the pull cord broke when the buyer came. I told him I would drop it off at the repair shop and they will fix it. I AM THE REPAIR SHOP! :) Guy ended up giving me an additional $40 to cover the “repair costs”. He said he knew he had a good deal @ $500 and I didn’t have to repair the pull cord for him.

Thanks for your video! I have a Sears/Husquvarna that looks like your Ariens in the video. Your direction on threading the rope onto the spool really helped. Saved me from buying the assembly. Thanks again!

Great observation! AYP/Husky made mowers for Ariens just a different color and sticker on it! 🤙🏻🇺🇸🦅🔧

Thank you!! Heating the rope and making a point was the key to getting my rope in. I was having a heck of a time before, wrestling with this solid Kohler starting wheel (if that's the real name of the part).

Good work there, I usually on those Kohler/Honda style recoil to old them in place use vice grips and thread the rope in reverse. I find it easier. Great scores. Yah I don’t like Kohler’s either especially there carbs, but starting to warm up to them, as I am finding them more often now.

D Fields I STAY AWAY FROM KOHLER’S As I have been burnt a few times by them. Their auto choke system is GARBAGE and over engineered as it is a two part system. There are ways around it on some machines but that is time and money! Not worth the effort I feel! Some machines the cable conversion can’t be done! I really like the vise grip trick! Better than my idea I used the in video! I had the entire package sold for $500 and recoil rope busted when the buyer came to look at them RAAAWWWRRR. Buyer said he would take it as is and if he had any problems he would reach out. I said NO THANKS to that as I felt it would open up a can of worms that any issues he has would be on me. He only live 10 mins away. So I said I will take it to my “mechanic” and have them repair it. The mower was just serviced and it must have been an oversight as it is wearable item. I was asking $550 for the package but we agreed to $500 through text. I told him $500 price still remains regardless if the repair shop charges me or not 🤗. I offered to deliver everything and he declined that. Called him back and he came with $540 saying the equipment looked better in person than in photos and i was an absolute pleasure to deal with!

I know this is a old video. you can stop it spinning by using a c-clamp.

These Kohler engines on modern push mowers are excellent performing little engines . But there recoil assembly systems are junk .....Affordable .....but still junk ...I really wish Kohler would improve there design because the engines there selves are great . And the thermostats are a common source for a potential problem as well .I love how quiet they are .....and best of all affordable to repair .

I just hate how overly complicated the Kohler’s are compared to others! Take away the VAC operated choke and we can re-visit this convo!

Thanks! Have this same mower I bout for $45 from the pawn shop. It's a really good cutting mower. Went to start it after winter and the damn pull start broke. So this is really going to help me out. Thanks for the information. Will return for any other small engine needs.

@@pattayperformance I like any deal. In today's economy you save whenever you can. I grew up thrifting and dumpster diving. So whenever you find gold you jump on it.
