Hi. I live in Tenerife , one of the Canary islands and after many failings I started to follow your planting plan as the climate seems similar although we never have frost. Thank you, I am having much more success. I have a question. I still cant seem to produce either cauliflowers or cabbages , the centers never develop and if they do despite spraying with neem or my home made tobacco liquid I can't stop the mealy bugs forming in huge quantities.... do you have any suggestions please. Many thanks

It may be too warm for cabbage and cauliflower. They like cooler temperatures.

Where did you buy the trellis' on your walls? How much? What were they called? Thank you!

The wall mounted trellises were both custom welded. You would have to check with a local welder for their price.

I visit my daughter in Phoenix every year around Valentine’s Day to plant her garden, and I’ve had a difficult time finding starts The only place I can find them is Home Depot and Walmart, and there hasn’t been much to choose from. I’ve called around to different nurseries and they don’t have any vegetables. Do you have any recommendations?
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 3 года назад
There are several great local options for starts. Abby Lee Farms (I'll be teaching a class there on the 13th if you're in town abbyleeaz.com/book-now/classes/#start-booking-classes ) A&P Nurseries in the East Valley, Summerwinds nurseries (several locations) Villardi Gardens also has pop up shops in the farmer's markets if you follow them on Instagram you'll know when and where.

I'm in zone 9b. Okra is a warm season crop. Here in my area we begin planting in mid-March through May

Is it still too cold for Basil seeds? 42-48F nights here at Central/Baseline. Next week I see a forecast of 55F nights. So, I'll try again. I was just wondering because you have Basil growing. I sow about 40 pots of Basil seeds on Feb 5 as a test run to see if they sprout in 45F nights, they didn't.

Do you ever directly sow tomato seeds into the ground?
@GrowingInTheGarden

No, our growing seasons are so short it's best to start with transplants so you can get a head start on the season.

i heard that at Arizona , water is limited, not allow using water in garden, or you will get big fine. is that true? that restrain me from moving there!
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 3 года назад
Water is a valuable resource and we do have to pay for it, but we aren't fined for using it in our gardens.

I planted corn from seed in winter garden. Plants look good but no corn. Should I abandon completely and replant from seed or stick with them since they are established
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 3 года назад
Corn is a warm loving crop. I'm not sure what your corn will do. If you have a different area to plant in you could add more corn. I would avoid planting more corn in the same location.

Do you plant berries every year or can you grow them as a perennial here in the valley?

Can you really plant corn, melons, basil, and grapes this early? Everything I see online says they need warm soil. I know after last frost date they could do well but I live in Mesa and apparently my last frost is in April.

At around 5 minutes you said something about clearing leaf debris from around your roses to discourage disease....but doesn't leaf litter help keep them warm??

The rose leaves can harbor disease, it's best to mulch with something else.
