I have the Costco special version of this, the SB-30. Pay attention to the instructions carefully, don't cross the lead wires from the unit to the custom wrapped coil (and make sure when you wrap it in the same direction if you have to go over the first coil). First, this is NOT a water softener and does not soften the water at all! It is only a descaler and helps to prevent hard-water scale buildup, nothing more. It uses RF (electromagnetic) waves of various frequencies to do this within the section of the pipe as water flows through it. The conditioned water then flows to whatever you have in the system supplied by the water supply line. It MAY help, over time, to remove existing scale buildup within the water pipes but the primary function is to stop the new scaling up of internal water surfaces (valve seats, internal pipes, hot water coils, coffee pot heaters, etc.) that cause many issues over time. It likely will not affect the taste of the water at all (I haven't noticed it at all). It only works on shower heads and water facets if the conditioned water has extended time in contact with those surfaces - shower heads really don't. The best thing to do is to clean them with CLR (follow directions carefully) and then note that you won't see NEW scale buildup on these locations. That is what I have noticed. I would still recommend it but note that this is NOT a water softener and won't give you the same results. I would also make sure you use a quality electrical surge protector on the AC line to the unit.

My house came in with pipes and water supply shutter and a electrical outlet already in place where a regular water softener would be installed. Can I use the same pipe line and location for the ScaleBlaster?

What that Home Depot gal wanted to say is that alternating current (1000-20,000 Hz) traversing the coiled wire around the pipe induces a changing magnetic field (Ampere's Law) which induces a changing electric field inside the pipe around which the wire is wrapped. This changing electric field inside the pipe induces physical movements of the charged particles: calcium ions, bicarbonate ions, and dipole water molecules. The agitation of these charged particles allows the calcium ions and bicarbonate ions to chemically react to form calcium carbonate (lime), carbon dioxide, and water. Essentially this product works by forcing lime to form inside the water instead of on the surface of the pipe or fixtures. Geez!!! Don't ever get a hardware store clerk to do the job of a chemist.

I am in the country and we have a jet pump. Above the jet pump is a shut off lever on a vertical copper pipe, like the one you showed. Should I install it above the shut off lever? There is a sediment filter to take out sand & grit further up when the copper pipe goes horizontal before the water goes to the rest of the house.

There is no video for installing it on their web site. You have to find it on RU-vid.

I have done a lot of digging since I really need something. I have to replace my water heater element every 10 month without adding salt to my softener. How long can this product extend my element usage? Half a month? Two month? Based on my weeks of reading, the main conclusion statistically is: "May or may not work", "a little improvement", "seems working". I am not sure if this type of product is really useful since my salt softener has extended my heater element usage 10+ years. I wish I am wrong, need somebody help me to see it.

Keep in mind this unit does not soften water. You have to have salt to soften the water. Think of it as a water conditioner
@MrDAF925

what is the difference between a water softener and conditioner?
@21blackwood
@21blackwood 7 лет назад
from how i understand it. Hard water or water that is heavy in minerals such as lime calcium etc are hard elements. the salt you put in the water softener changes the pH to make the harder minerals break down and can be filtered through your softener. Now, conditioner uses electric currents to break down the hard minerals to much smaller parts that reduce the clogging that happens without either. Not changing the pH but reducing the size of the mineral particles. I went with the scale blaster simply for space reasons. No good place to put a water softener and the scale blaster at around $100 was an easy choice for any possible slight improvement. DISCLAIMER: I am in no way an expert on the matter, just trying to help by explaining it the best way I can. I am sure there are others out there that could do a MUCH better job of explaining and probably will. I hope this helps.

a water softener will replace the calcium in the water with sodium from the salt, a simple exchange. a conditioner will do exactly that, condition the water so the calcium does not stick to plumbing and appliances as scale.

It does NOT replace a water softener. It simply conditions the water so the hard water deposits don't stick to the pipes. That's it. Period!
@ryanduksa5202
@ryanduksa5202 6 лет назад
It doesn't advertise softening the water, just solving the problems from hard water. Works great from what I've seen! Note, my wife can't use a softener as she gets hives from them.
@YknotLearnall
@YknotLearnall 6 лет назад
Ryan Duksa - they are in this video though. They're saying to remove a softener as with this you don't need it. And that's simply not true. At all. I take by your comment you own one. How long now if so? Have you seen less calcium and lime build up?

You really have to research these types of devices before spending money. I started out looking at what size to buy, even looking at commercial/industrial solutions for comparison, then what brand, and then finally, does this really work? All because I bought a tank-less water heater and want to prevent scaling. Since I have an electrical engineering background, as well as a pretty good chemical engineering minor, I had to research this. My question was, do the claims match the science? I came across the following link www.chem1.com/CQ/aquacrack.html and followed some of the links within this well written article. I have no affiliation with anything in it. Judge for yourself.

wow, a home depot scam. there is no such thing as a sonic frequency...as she mention.
@wardsmith2542
@wardsmith2542 5 лет назад
Andy, if there was no such thing as as sonic frequency, everyone would be deaf. In fact your home stereo puts out sonic frequencies from 20-20,000 hz. You might not be able to hear all of that, but because they're not sonic but because your hearing is likely damaged. Until your speaker wires connect to speakers, that "sonic" frequency is just electromagnetic waves at those frequencies.
@wardsmith2542

BTW I'm not making a claim as to the legitimacy of the product. I'm not convinced it works at all, but am interested in how they're doing what they're doing.
