Welcome to Part 1 of 2 of our Havasupai Adventures! This permit-only 5+ waterfall hiking adventure is one of the best and most famous hikes in Arizona, We were lucky enough to win the lottery on our first try! This is a once in a lifetime experience, and we feel truly lucky. Come along with us on our favorite adventure so far!
The town of Havasupai is the only village nestled 3000 ft down into the Grand Canyon, and receives its mail by mule! It is known for its beautiful blue-green waters and magnificent waterfalls. The journey to Havasupai is the most ambitious hike we have done so far (we hiked over 30 miles in our 4 day/ 3 night stay).
To obtain reservations and general information: www.havasupaireservations.com
Packing Guide we found helpful: localadventurer.com/havasupai...
⬇️⬇️⬇️ IN DEPTH GUIDE BELOW ⬇️⬇️⬇️

- Permit applications usually open in February and usually sell out within a few hours
- Lottery system
- All reservations are for 4 days/ 3 nights and up to 12 people
- Keep an eye out on the exchange for reservations that people let go if you miss out on the lottery (same website)
Types of permits:
- $450 camping per person
- $2277 per lodge reservation (4 people max)
- Pack mules are $400, can carry 4 bags
- Pick up pack mule tags no later than 9am on the morning of your reservation arrival date
- Bags can be dropped off as early as 4am and usually arrive to camp by 5pm

How to get down:
- Hiking: 10 mile hike from trailhead to campground with significant elevation change

- Hike in and use a mules for your bags (see above in permits for details) - still carry water and snacks with you! It is a long hike.
- Helicopter rides: $100 per person each way
- Includes one bag
- Additional bags are priced by weight
- Show up by 10am to Hualapai Hilltop (flying into Havasupai) or in line at the Tourism Office (flying out of Havasupai)
- ALWAYS be prepared to hike in/out just in case the helicopter doesn’t fly or you are unable to obtain a spot
- Check in
- Grand Canyon Caverns Inn, located at Mile Marker 115, Route 66 near Seligman, Arizona 86434
- April 1-30, 2024: 8 am - 5 pm

- trip leader must check-in for all members of their group, beginning the day before your arrival date and no later than noon on the first day of your reservation
- Printed copy of email confirmation (they DID take our screenshot)
- Photo ID
- Vehicle license plate number
Where to stay the night before:
- Grand Canyon Caverns Inn (closest and also the check- in spot for the day before the hike!)
- The town of Peach Springs also has some lodging options
DAY 1: Hike into Havasupai
- 10 mile hike down (8 to village and lodge, 2 more to campground) ~2500 ft elevation loss
- Start early to avoid heat
- Carry snacks and at least 3L of water per person
- No water or toilets along trail
- Set up camp/ check into lodge
- Explore closest waterfall(s) if you still have the energy (Havasu Falls, Navajo Falls, 50 ft falls)
- Get some rest for a big day tomorrow
DAY 2: Hike to Mooney and Beaver Falls
- Hike to the Confluence if I you desire (adds 8 more miles to your already 8 mile hike! Take caution!)
DAY 3 & 4 on Part 2!
The Waterfalls:
Havasu, Navajo, and 50 Foot Falls
- These 3 waterfalls fall between the village/lodge and the campground, and can be easily seen in one day
- Havasu is closest the campground (maybe 0.5 miles)
- Havasu Falls (100 ft)
- Navajo falls
- 50 Foot Falls
Beaver and Mooney Falls: 8 miles roundtrip from campground (add 2 miles each way for lodge)
- Mooney Falls (190 ft)
- 0.5 miles from campground to falls
- 200 ft sketchy chain descent - wet and slippery due to mist from the fall
- Communal gloves to help your grip on the chains - at several points I was holding on just by my arms until I could find good footing 😬, I hear it’s worse the shorter you are)
- Watch your step! The falls are named for someone who fell to their death there in the 1800s.
- Beaver falls (3.5 more miles past Mooney)
- 3 river crossings and some ladders
- The Confluence: not a waterfall, but a hike to where the turquoise Havasu Creek meets the Colorado River
- If the Confluence is on your itinerary, it can ONLY be accessed from the trail to Beaver Falls, so now is your chance!
- Mooney ➡️ Beaver ➡️ The Confluence = 16 miles roundtrip (add 2 miles each way for lodge)
- Do not take this trip lightly, pack food and water, and leave early enough to not hike back in the dark
